Decent Micro case and PSU

white Reviewed By: Aircraft123 on 11/29/2006
Rating + 4
Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: This case is relatively small and everything fits perfectly in it. The fan is relatively quiet and it fits the purpose well. The PSU has worked flawlessly 4 me so far.
Cons: Temperature readouts are excellent but not extremely accurate. temp. probes are stuck on with tape and the directions (on web site) tell you to tape it on the CPU heatsync. Case is a little flimsy but adaquate. PCI slots are difficult to get to once the motherboard is installed.
Other Thoughts: I don't really agree with the other reviews referring to the handle being too flimsey. It is fine as long as you dont exert rediculous amounts of force on it when carried. THERE IS LIMITED CLEARANCE FOR THE CPU FAN. Make sure you buy a low profile fan for this case. I reccomend the Cooler Master Vortex TX. Quiet, works great, Fits.

One Year Later........

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: It's aluminum, small, and it looks great in my opinion. I wanted all black but the illuminated temp display adds a nice contrast without being too distracting or geeky. Temps seem to be accurate enough but this naturally depends on where and how you place the probes.

There’s plenty of room inside - if you plan your build. Since it’s a mATX it puzzles me as to why people complain about the cramped space. The mATX form factor should be a clue that it will be small.

The cover is flimsy when removed but feels solid enough when properly attached, so unless you plan to carry it around like a lunchbox it should be fine.

The case is cool and airflow is fine. The BIOS shows my CPU at about 2C above ambient temps when idle. The slide out tray is handy and necessary and can be removed or reinserted in seconds.
Cons: I knocked this down to 3 eggs because of the power supply. This would be a great deal for the price if it came with a decent PS but unfortunately it does not. You will be pushing your luck if you use it, so if you are serious about using this case you should plan on replacing the PS before you power it up. Fortron makes a good replacement. Standard ATX PS’s will fit but the depth will limit you to using short profile opticals like LiteOn. Full size opticals will bottom out against a standard PS.
Other Thoughts: I’ve been running this for a year and have been inside the case several times. It still looks like new and was almost silent until I added a 6600GT. I used a FanMate for the 120mm rear fan and I can’t even hear it running, and it still cools well even with the rear fan undervolted. My working case temp is usually around 30C.

Understand what you are buying first

white Reviewed By: risto on 11/19/2009
Rating + 5
Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: -Looks great
-Plenty of room for airflow (not common on many mATX cases)
-Easy to install everything (if you know how to work on mATX desktops)
-LCD temp meters are nice additions
-Very simple
-Enough room for plenty of stuff (considering its a mATX)
-Would be perfect for a HTPC or a stylish home PC (just don't expect to use this for high-performance gaming).

-Understand that this is a mATX case: it WILL be smaller than full-sized cases. Enough with the reviews complaining about there not being enough room or that its too small. It is supposed to be.
Cons: -Yes, the power supply isn't the best, but it works fine for my uses (see Other thoughts)
-To secure a 5.25" drive in the slot, you must first remove the hard drive casing. To do this, you must unscrew it. The screw for completing said task in difficult to get to. I recommend having a long screwdriver handy.
-KNOW HOW TO BUILD mATX CASES FIRST!!
Other Thoughts: When you are building mATX desktops, you must install the motherboard onto the tray, attach the add-on cards, run your cables, then secure the mobo tray back in the case. Then, working from the lowest slot to the highest, run the cables for connecting your drives (card reader, dvd burner, etc) out the slots. Then begin connecting and assembling (once again from the ground up) until your build is complete. When I build full sized desktops, I can drop the drives and what not in and have plenty of room to attach cables later. When you work on mATX cases, you need to take it slow and plan ahead!

I built this for use as a home office PC. I bought it because its size would allow a monitor to sit on top and be at perfect eye-level. (With a $30 MI rebate) You can't beat the price.

Specs:
MoBo: GIGABYTE AMD 785G HDMI MATX ($76!)
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz ($60!)
RAM: 2x1GB 1066 240-pin sticks I found (FREE)
Other: Rosewill PCI WIFI card ($8!)

Thanks, Newegg!

Decent case, but a little fat

white Reviewed By: a.rich on 11/17/2009

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Short case, fits full-height expansion cards, decent built-in PSU, temperature display is nice
Cons: Case is very wide, motherboard tray must be removed to add expansion cards
Other Thoughts: Be aware that this case is almost 1 foot wide...a good bit fatter than your average case. Not a big deal since it's shorter in the other dimensions, but I was surprised. The aluminum also feels cheap, but when the case is closed up it's sturdy enough.

As others have mentioned, the PCI/PCIe slots are directly beneath the PSU, so you must slide the motherboard tray out to add/remove cards. That involves disconnecting most (if not all) of the motherboard wires, so it's a little inconvenient.

Lots of people have complained about the PSU...but it works fine if you don't push it. I've got a pretty basic mid-range system (Athlon 64 3200+, 3GB RAM, SATA hard drive, DVD burner, 1GB Radeon HD 3650) and it's had no problem.
