5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Blue SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: No PSU problem,
Quiet,
Cheap, small, fit for HTPC

Cons: Only two HDDs can be attached.
(So from the beginning, it's better to attach large quan HDD)
Too bright turning-on signal.

Other Thoughts: I bought this product 3 years ago, and one more 2 years ago for HTPC and some computer stuff.
So far so good.
No PSU problems.
I'm not heavy user, and that may be the reason.
I'm satisfied with this product.

Manufacturer Response:

The X-Master model case can actually hold up to four hard drives (if you use the external 3.5" drive bay). Aside from the external bay and obvious mounting area, you can also mount one on either side vent if you don't use 120mm fans there.

2 out of 5 eggsPlease, put PSU position on other side!

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Blue SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Lots of fans and cool case

Cons: The case can only fit an 8 inch long video card while bundled with a full-size ATX PSU. I could have opted for a microatx psu and put a 10 inch long video card instead, but I did not! Buyers beware, PSU placement in this case was very poor; instead, the psu should have been put on the adjacent corner of the case as not to affect the video card size.

Power light is too bright. I disabled it by pulling the power from the motherboard. HDD light is nonexistent (even with power!).

Other Thoughts: Antec's bundled power supplies are always poor. I would prefer they didn't include a PSU with their case, and lowered the price of this product as an alternative.

I'd also like to see an anti-static casing.

I guess, aside from PSU location ebb, this is a great case (minus the PSU).

4 out of 5 eggswish this case were anti-electrostatic

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Blue SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: - very cool on the inside (love the 120 MM side fans).
- easy access to all parts of the computer (everything opens up).
- quiet case (silent fans only in my computer)
- fits Microatx motherboard (i love small computers; it's convenient)

Cons: - Power Light is too bright (they bother my eyes when I sit and watch TV in front of the PC)
- HDD light is too dim.
- Power light and HDD light should be between power light and hdd light now.

- NOT anti-static. I shocked my computer 3 times already in a month as I have a lot of rug in my room. Each shock created a black screen.

Other Thoughts: - Speaker is very small, so do not throw away!
- make power light and hdd light into reflectors (I know when the computer is on because I can hear it or see the 120 mm blue led lights on the side)

3 out of 5 eggsNice case, Disappointing PSU

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Blue SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Nice, easy to work with case that works well flat or as tower. Solid construction for an economy case. The blue/black has just a faint pearlescence to the blue color that makes it an attractive case on a black, rolling computer desk.

Cons: PSU = poor quality. The PSU died 32 days after purchase. Failed completely after sporadic shutoff issues.

Other Thoughts: I noticed some shutoff issues in the first few weeks after setup, and I watched the computer for a couple weeks thinking (based on Windows Event Viewer) that it might be an issue with the OEM Athlon II processor that I used. I swapped the processor with a retail box processor and same issue showed. I ended up purchasing a Corsair PSU to replace it.
The case is good solid construction that will fit most needs, but I suggest replacing the PSU upon purchase as others have mentioned.

2 out of 5 eggsOK But misses the mark

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Blue SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Nice looking,

Cons: Power supply - appears old design. It has a good number of 4 pin molex, but only two sata power.
Pretty frustrating when trying to install a SSD boot, HD, and DVD with only two SATA power connectors. Power fan is not all that quiet. I'm not using the two 80MM fans (they also are not quiet) I am using a 120 (very quiet).

Other Thoughts: Nice looking case, but needs an updated power supply for todays SATA. Also needs to focus on being quiet.

Get something without a power supply, or fans, and select the ones that fit your needs.

Typically, I never order a case with PS so that I can get a good one for my needs (quiet).

For some reason, (still working it out) the PC will not fully sleep. All fans stay on when in sleep (Win 7 64b) + Biostar A880GZ + Corsair SSD

My other HTPC, based on antec 300, a good PS, and Asus board, goes to sleep as needed with the same model corsair SSD.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent HTPC case

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Blue SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Looks good
Optical bay cover

Cons: Front panel is flimsy

Other Thoughts: I had to RMA the first one I got due to 7 of the 10 plastic pins holding it to the frame were broken clean off. Second one had no issue. I hear the PSU is sketchy, but you can always get a new one, mine tested good.

4 out of 5 eggsUnique Case, some good some bad

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Blue SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: 1. Solid build quality
2. Nice Paint
3. unique layout
4. Add two fans to the sides (one intake, one exhaust) and it will have incredible airflow as long as you don't have any full height expansion cards

Cons: 1. Need to remove the front panel to get at the switch on your UPS. The from plate is pressure fitted, so continuous removal may wear out the plugs. I've done it about 10 times and it's still solid so far, but I can see this wearing out.

2. Cables for power switch, LED, etc are just barely long enough to reach where the bottom of a ful ATX motherboard when wraped around the tungsten ring. I had to use the space that would have been taken up by a 3.5" drive below the 5.25" bays

3. Almost went blind looking directly into the blue power LED. Works great as a nightlight in the kids' room. HDD LED is barely visible

4. Two 80mm rear fans barely move air, and the mounting system restricts some air flow. Can barely feel it on bare skin. The power cables are very long though, long enough to go all the way to the front of the case under the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: *****AS SOON AS YOU GET IT, BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE, REMOVE THE FRONT PANEL AND CHECK THE VOLTAGE SWITCH ON THE POWER SUPPLY*******

My PSU was on the wrong setting

The only reason to choose this design is for looks or if you need a desktop style case that cuts down the width by making it longer. Nothing about the case screams home theatre computer, but it works fine for this application. I liked the blue front panel because it's going into my Son's room, and it matches.

get a 5.25" to 3.5" drive adapter and put the hard drive under the optical drive. This is required if both drives are on one parallel cable, but is cleaner looking even if you use SATA.

5 out of 5 eggsPSU placement

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Blue SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Dispite the title, I really did like this case. I purchased this case to make a PC for my HDTV, I used a XFX 750i Board, could not find a MicroATX that I liked for a 775 socket CPU.
The case had plenty of room for the ATX motherboard and a XFX 6770 Graphic Card.

Cons: I found that the PSU lacked the needed power to support my build, did not have a 8pin 12V connector, only had a 4pin. I had to purchased a replacement PSU. Also, due to to board that I used, the power cables came out of the PSU at the same location as the primary PCI-E slot, so I had to zip tie the cable as they would push on the video card.

Other Thoughts: This case would be a good case for anyone wanting a small PC, the choice of mother board would affect the inner layout of the PSU cables. Depending on your motherboard, you may need to get a replacement PSU. A motherboard with a PCI-E at the bottom, if adding a Graphic Card, would help.

3 out of 5 eggsSo-So

This review is from: APEVIA Black / Blue SECC Steel / Aluminum X-MASTER-BL/500 ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Pros: Nice looking and good size for under the TV. Will hold up to an ATX motherboard. Study construction and is well made. The power supply works great for me but I'm only using half the power. Steady voltage and quiet fan. The connector wires are well labeled. All the front ports work and I especially like the front USB's for my wireless keyboard. The DVD tray cover was a nice added touch.

Cons: The front blue power LED light is rediculiously bright. That makes it uncomfortable when watching movies. I put is a 1 ohm resistor as previously mentioned. Not enough, recommend at least 2 ohm. But the point is why? Somebody didn't do their homework when designing it. For that alone I don't recommend buying it. The other thing to be careful with is the high gloss black finish. All the finger prints show up and it scratches easy. The harddrive was very hard to install after putting in the MB/CPU because I used an after market cooler, recommend installing it first.

Other Thoughts: No oversize video cards allowed. Standand height only (no large fans) and the length is limited to the width of an ATX motherboard because the power supply buts right up to it. A power cord connects the power supply which is in the front to a female plug in the back. The cord exits the power supply in direct alignment with the video PCE 2.0 slot. Duh!! Therefore no overhead video power connect is possible without serious modification and a rear connect is tight and bearly doable. A large video card effectively splits the case in half for airflow, so buy the two extra side fans, you will need them. Also the design seems to enhance the side fan noise. Out of the case, my fans are whisper quiet, inside it's whats wrong with my fans. If you're going to mount it vertically then get a tower, you'll be much happier.

The case is nice looking but definitely not for a first-time builder.
