4 out of 5 eggsExcellent case on a budget

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: A well designed and thought out case, I've seen the various improvements over the old original X-Dreamer case by far, it's certainly come a long way over my mom's old computer's original X-Dreamer case.

1. The 3.5" drive bays use a quick attach/detach rails to mount drives, a very nice touch, makes mounting drives very quick and easy. The 5.25" bays are even more awesome, they secure without screws or rails, a locking latch on the side secures the drive in place via it's screw mount holes, easy peasy!

2. Lots of room for a mid tower, I even got my "surfboard" of a Sapphire R9 280 PCI-E card in there with no trouble, although it's rather close to the drive bay cage mind you...

3. 5 stock fans in this puppy! 4 120mms and a single big-boy 200mm for the window. Sadly, I've had to replace the 200mm and down size it to an additional 120mm to make room(on the lower mount holes in the window) for my Coolermaster EVO 212 CPU cooling heatsink and fans, as it is quite tall and almost touching the window. The additional Apevia 120mm red UV LED fans I added for the "red glow effect" work great as well to boot and all of them work great with my Aerocool CoolTouch-E unit. Everything was easy to mount in this case, save the bottom-front fan however.(more on that below) You can mount up to about 7 120mm fans total in this case, providing you remove the 200mm one, as it has extra mounting holes for 2 additional 120mm fans in the window as an option. There is no fan mounted on the bottom of the case when you get it, but there are holes there to mount one there if you so choose.

4. Once proper cable management is done, the air flow in this case is EXCELLENT. I haven't see it get over 40c on the CPU or GPU when idle and this is in the hottest room in my house with the A/C window unit off so far.

5. The front thermostat readout is by far one of the coolest things on this case and is a big reason why I bought it, aside from the sharp red/black scheme and red window side panel of course. This thing looks "alien" when lit up and running (in the words of my neighbor's son haha) in a very good way.

6. Cable management is good for this case, I was able to make an incredible mess of wires look very clean inside this case. Granted, I had to stuff a bunch of it behind the motherboard and the other side panel, but eh, it works, haha! The included mini zip ties were a great help.

7. This thing even has routing holes for a water cooling setup with tubing if you so choose! Great option for some extreme cooling.

Cons: 1. Sadly, after a few days of readings with the front temp readout, I'm now only getting a reading of "Lo", of which I guess the sensor maybe going bad, as it's registering too low a temp to readout.

2. The front bottom fan on this case is NOT easy to get to or get out due to the front panel wiring routing right where it has to come out when the screws are removed. Go slow and take care with the wires if you wanna get it out folks!

3. I really miss the removable motherboard tray on my old X-SuperAlien full-tower case, it makes getting the motherboard in and out so easy... *sigh* And I've had to replace 4-5 motherboards out of that old workhorse... *facepalm*

4. I also miss the fact my old X-SuperAlien case interior was made of ALUMINUM, so much lighter and more like one big effective heatsink. Sadly, this thing is painted entirely black and made out of steel, so it will absorb heat like a sponge in direct sunlight. If it weren't for the 6 fans I have running in there and the case being in a shady spot, I imagine it probably would not be so cool running...

5. I can't believe this was so much of an "afterthought" it appears for this case... But the SSD mounting option for it is at the bottom of the case, in the 3.5" drive bays! There is NO way to get your SATA power cable mounted to it if you're using your PSU's connectors as it's nearly flush with the bottom of case! The SATA data cable are in the same situation as well if they are 90 degree connectors too. Bottom line folks, get a SSD drive mount for the 3.5" bay, if you want to mount SSDs in this case! The Rosewell unit I got with a fan mounted on it is working great so far.

Other Thoughts: Even with the few minor issues I've listed, this case is a GREAT value and stacks up well against much more expensive cases in features and options IMHO. Apevia does it again, this is my second case from them and I hope it lasts just as long as my old X-SuperAlien does! (12 years old!!!)

5 out of 5 eggsLove this case

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Strong, very attractive, USB 3.0, that temperature display is so helpful, strong air movement and cooling, the slots for cable management were great. Sliding drive bays made everything so much easier. I won't ever use the hot swap bay, but if I want to, its there for me.

The air flow in this case is amazing with the huge fan and the cable routing through the back. Holding my hand over it, it feels very cool and my system runs about 5 degrees cooler thanks to this case.

Cons: It took a lot of stretching and shoving to get a CPU power cable to come out from the top of the mobo.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend making homemade grommets for this case. You can get adhesive foam from a crafts store for cheap and make grommets for your case (there are videos online). It really adds the touch this case needs and keeps the cables neat. I made mine red so everything goes well together.

1 out of 5 eggsjunk

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: None

Cons: The fan pins suck ****, the pins inside the fans come out as soon as i tried to connect the 4 pin power supply connectors.

Other Thoughts: don't waist your time and money on this peace of junk go get a real tower.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: So i've had this case for about 3-4 months and it is a very solid case if you're a first time builder. I love the amount of fans it comes with off the bat and the 240mm fan is amazing. Since this is the first pc I built, i think it was the perfect choice. I also like the little edition they added that tells the temperature of the inside of the case.

Cons: The problem I have with this case is that the 240mm fan takes up more space then it should and I think apevia should've made an indent in the side of the case so this wouldn't be a problem. Because of this I had no room to put in the cpu cooler I wanted. Not a big deal but it kinda sucks because I had to return the cpu cooler and get a smaller one.

Other Thoughts: Overall the case is an amazing case for under $100. My friend had told me that the fans are too loud for his liking before i bought the case, but they aren't loud and they are some what quiet for me. If you can deal with a little bit of fan noise then you're fine with getting this case. If your a first time pc builder like I was, then this case is perfect for you. If your looking to get a big cpu cooler then I don't recommend getting this case.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid case

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: >Plenty of room - I installed an HIS video card that was 1 foot long and it fits.
>lots of fans
>lots of drive bays
>front USB/audio ports
>hot swap SATA bay (2.5/3.5 both fit) for those experimental types :)

Cons: >Fans aren't the greatest quality. 2 of them have a hard time starting up, this started after about 2 months of ownership.
>No way of mounting SSD / 2.5" drives included. My SSD is kind of chilling in the bottom of the drive bay with no attachment.
>connectors to hotswap bay and temp readout are flakey, i.e. they disconnect easily when trying to manage cables.
>Doesn't fix my coffee in the morning?

Other Thoughts: Case is well-nigh bulletproof. I dropped it over 5 feet (fell off of the top of my computer hutch) and survived with minimal bendage. Would buy again, matter of fact I probably will get the pink case to build a system for my daughter.

4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful case

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Very nice to look at, comes with all the fans, quiet

Cons: Punch out slots for cards in back (stuck if you punch out and later want to remove), wasn't easy to mount an SSD (didn't come with anything to do so, and had to rig it up myself)

Other Thoughts: I was looking for a nice looking black and red case and this one was perfect, as many others were a little odd looking to me. It's sleek and refined looking. LCD readout on front looks classy. The fans are surprisingly quiet, although I will probably replace at least a couple with some higher quality ones anyway. Haven't owned it long enough for anything to mess up, but it seems pretty solid, aside from maybe the LCD readout.

3 out of 5 eggsGood chassis for the price

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Nice solid steel chassis, great air flow (because of fans), Cool front panel design, 200 mm LED fan = all of my yes

Cons: Punch out pci slots (once removed they are out), molex connectors are horrible and very flimsy which makes connecting them to a power supply a very painful experience, moderate to low cable management.

Other Thoughts: First off, this is a fairly decent case for the price as the outside is very stylish and rocks a very sleek front panel design and has a front facing hot-swap drive bay for both 2.5 and 3.5 form factor drives :D, externally you can't go wrong +5 eggs... However internally this thing is kinda nightmarish. The molex connectors ARE CHEAP and wiggle around and do not like to connect to other molex connectors -1 egg. The pci bays and water cooling holes are punch out and do not have rubber grommets -1 egg. The screws are not labeled and are all in the same bag however the instructions have a diagram that show where the mounting screws go, so it's pretty easy to set the mobo. Lastly, the cable management is pretty rugged to say the least. I highly recommend a modular power supply for this case. Overall, I would consider this a good chassis so I have no regrets or buyers remorse.

5 out of 5 eggswell well well

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: good looking, working fine, great for me. lcd pannel shows in F or C, just push on button behind the pannel itself. since i dont care about that i let it in C.

Cons: kinda loud, 4 pin molex, bad ssd mount ( i had to screw it on the side of the bottom case), poor cable management especially on the top where you can hardly fit any cable type for exemple a 6 pin you just cant. the thermometer is just hanging around near heatsink.

Other Thoughts: im kinda tired right now. my back hurts, time to sleep after building my pc. running average 27 C in a room where its 25 C. I would say this case is really good except for the ssd mount, since there isnt any racks, just some plastic stick that you screw on each side of your hdd, but that doesnt fit on any ssd.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: Cool design, decent cable management options, front lcd display pretty useful (while it worked, see below). Pretty good airflow.

Cons: LCD display stopped working, audio and usb wires too short to run under and behind the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Pretty disappointed the LCD displayed stopped working because that was the deal sealer compared to the other cases I was looking at buying at the time. I don't have an extra case laying around, and it is not worth it to me to wait weeks for it to get replaced. I won't be buying another Apevia case again.

Manufacturer Response:

If you need help with the case, such as replacing the temperature gauge, you can contact Apevia's customer service at service@apevia.com or call at (909) 718-0789. We try to reply to all calls and e-mails as soon as we can. As for the wiring itself, you can cut the tie holding them to the case body. That should increase the length enough to fix that problem.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: APEVIA X-DREAMER4 Series X-DREAMER4-RD Black / Red Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: lots of room for a mid-tower.love the design, the thermometer is helpful.

Cons: couple scratches here and there but only noticeable if you look right at it.then the window is kinda hard to see through because of the fan. Also if you are going to use a aftermarket cpu fan its going to be a tough fit because of the side window fan probably like .5''-1'' clearance so check dimensions

Other Thoughts: all in all i love the case
