The NZXT Whisper Full-tower takes quiet seriously! The Whisper is lined on the top, bottom, sides, and front, with noise-damping material, reducing the fan noise to nearly inaudible. Strong airflow is helped by a 120mm front intake fan and a 120mm rear exhaust fan as well as dual 80mm rear fans. The front fan is equipped with an LED, so the vents and cutout design in the front door glow blue. Top I/O panel offers convenient ports for USB 2.0 and FireWire, and HD audio ports.
NZXT’s screw-less rail system makes it easier than ever before to securely install up to 6 external 5.25” drives, 1 external 3.5” drives, 9 internal 3.5” drives, and 7 expansion cards. Motherboard tray supports your choice of E-ATX ATX, MicroATX, or BABY ATX board. Whether it’s for work of play, you’ll enjoy near-silent operation, and superior heat management with the NZXT Whisper full-tower!

Horrible, horrible cooling
- Pros: The PSU and HDD section of this case is awesome. Nice airflow, nice layout, and easy set up. The exact opposite of this can be said in regards to the top portion.
- Cons: The top portion of the case has horrible airflow. The only fan to cool your GPU's, CPU, and board is 1 x 120mm fan in the back of the case. ... 1 fan. There is no frontal fans to create airflow, no top fan exhaust, no side fan, nothing. Just one fan. In my previous case my 2 x GTX 280 cards in SLI reached 80C max. In this case they reach 115C under load an crash.
To further my notion that heat was completely trapped in the top half of the case I took the side panel off. This dropped my temps by 20C. While I now have to run my computer this way because of heat issues this completely negates the whole "silent" aspect of the case.
Cable management is also atrocious. There is no room behind the non-removable motherboard tray to wire your system. Everything has to be pushed through a hole between the top and bottom half of the board. As my second GTX 280 is right there there is only a 1/2" gap to run cables.
Stay away from this case if you run high end equipment, it will
- Other Thoughts: I am very disappointed at how easily this case could have been made better. Throw 2 silent fans on the door, a slot cooler for the GPU's, add another 1/2" to the back for cabling, and another 1" between the center divider and the bottom of the motherboard and you would have a VERY nice case.
This was my first NZXT case and will be my last. A new case from another brand is already on the way.

Manufacturer Response:Thank you for purchasing an NZXT Product. We want to first apologize for the inconvenience this case has caused you. The NZXT Whisper was designed with silence and immense hard drive capacity in mind. Unfortunately with silence comes the sacrifice of cooling, and although the Whisper offers adequate cooling for most systems, there may be upgrades needed in order to support high end gaming systems. We recommend replacing the rear and intake fans with fans that have larger cfm, however that will come at the cost of noise. We stand behind all our products for quality and craftsmanship. We are exploring the option of adding another 120mm at the front as an option. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for the criticism, please email us at service@nzxt.com if you have any questions.
AMAZING
- Pros: This case is enormous! Many hard drive bays. This case comes with everything that you need for the installation. Full compliment of screws and fans. I can still hear the fans in this case even with the sound deadening material, but the difference with the side panel on or off is amazing. Rubberized ports for water cooling. I also like how the hard drive bays are separated from the motherboard area. There is no disappointment (in any way) about this case. It is the most efficient design for someone wanting a small file server.
- Cons: I noticed that some of the hard drive bays were "bent". All they needed was for me to "bend" them back. The case is very heavy, which suggests a solid design. Don't expect to be moving this case very often because of the weight. I also wish that there was an air filter on the intake fan (I live in a very dusty area).
- Other Thoughts: I run a "small" file server on my college campus. At first I started out with just a small amount of data (2x320gb hard drives). After a while, file donations started to come in and I needed more space (new hard drives). Now I am up to 5 hard drives of various sizes and I have quickly outgrown my mid tower. I bought this case because "she" is capable of holding 9 hard drives! All the hard drives "clicked" in without any issues and I still have 4 more bays for expansion!

Great Idea, poor execution
- Pros: Very large case. Plenty of room for drives.
- Cons: This case has many problems. First off, the power supply is so close to the bottom it overheated my PS in a matter of hours of use! Secondly the front bezel is cheap plastic that broke upon shipping. Also there is no room behind the motherboard to route any cabling. Cooling is a BIG CON! Sure the bottom half is fine, but NZXT just forgot about the top half where most the heat is produced. Im sorry but who's idea was it to only have 1 120mm fan to cool off the top? This is just insane! They also should have put insulation on the bottom, front, and top. I guess they just forgot that too.
- Other Thoughts: I am very unhappy with this case and Ive already ordered a new one. You are WASTING your money if you buy NZXT.
Great case
- Pros: Tons of room. I currently have 2 74gb raptors, 1 36gb raptor, a hot running maxtor drive, and two other rather cool running hdd's in the cages right now and all of the drives are kept cool by the constant airflow that all the hdd fans and the psu fan move. The upper portion of the case is isolated from the bottom, and although a fan is not included, the case does have a fan mount spot with a filter that is removable for a 120mm fan, just above the 140mm fan utilizing the bottom 3 5.25" bays.
- Cons: When the case arrived, the box was in perfect condition. The outside of the case was also in perfect condition. But the tray separating the top half from the bottom half (on the inside) was bent out of alignment (almost in a z shape) with broken fasteners that pulled away from the rear of the case. This was definitely poor quality control. being that it was only about a 4" x 2" area, it was easily bent back into shape, and although I did not replace the broken fastener, the tray stays in place and does not vibrate at all.
- Other Thoughts: Wire maintenance in the hdd cage is a pain. The problem is the sata spacing on the cable from the PSU. Generally, the spacing between plugs are about 2.5" - 3" and the problem is that when you have a sata power cable, like on the thermaltake pure power modular supplies, you can only use 3 of the 4 plugs. Still, even with a huge PSU mounted, there is plenty of space to tuck in the extra wires that are left over with plenty of room to spare. All of the case fans have a 3 pin end, with a 4 pin molex attached to each. This makes for alot of excess. Clipping the unused parts off will still leave you with an obscene length of wire to hide. If you're comfortable with it, i would recommend combining and making your own length of wire for better management. But doing that right is a p.i.t.a.
Excellent case for storage server building
- Pros: This case has 9 internal 3.5" bays which is perfect for building a storage server with 8 drives in RAID and 1 boot drive. I bought this along with 9 1TB drives and an Areca 1220 RAID controller. With that many drives in it it's loud enough to be noticeable, but much quieter than other cases I have used.
- Cons: The foam on the door makes it hard to fit all 9 drives in with the door on. The front door had a crack in one of the corners from being closed to tightly.
- Other Thoughts: If you want to build a storage server this is the case to get. Cheap, roomy, and quiet.
