3 out of 5 eggsI got the 1 out of a 1000 bad egg, still a good case

This review is from: NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: The case is huge, Mobo, GPU, CPU cooler, HDD, SSD all fit nicely!
The fan controller on top is a nice touch to control them.
Design is amazing

Cons: Fans go out and Fan controller failed after 6 months. I would have warrantied it out, but to wait for another case was out of the question for me.
Limited fans included. you have to buy the rest.

Other Thoughts: Cant wait for the next design, maybe ill get a good one instead of the 1/1000

4 out of 5 eggsA farewell review

This review is from: NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: - Big case
- Very aesthetically pleasing
- 4 fans, including a nice, big 200mm fan.
- Nice cable management potential.
- The ability to turn on and off the lighted fan really easily.
- Integrated fan controller (I never realized how much this spoiled me until I got my new case, which does not have one).
- Big power and reset buttons, as well as power and HDD lights.
- Magnetically closing front door for a clean, finished look.
- Spring loaded releases on both side panel doors.
- Screwless mounting of HDDs and 5.25" devices.
- Easy mounting of SSDs.
- Screw holes for 5.25" devices for an added layer of protection.
- The rear hard drive cage is removable for water cooling, or long PSUs.
-

Cons: - This thing LOVES dust, especially in the little hiding places where you can't see it all collecting until it chokes the case up.
- Only a 120mm rear exhaust fan. (not a real con, but hey)
- Putting a fan in the big opening on the door is a good idea, but it's really annoying if you want to ever open your case.
- Did not come with a front fan.
- The front fan port had no dust filter.
- The dust filters were very difficult to remove for cleaning.
- The power and reset buttons were easy to accidentally hit.
- I hope you don't need to route any cables to the top rear of your motherboard, because the cable management is really bad there.
- Front panel audio has never worked for me. Nor did it work for me in the previous case that I owned, which was also NZXT (it's not the motherboard, it's working perfectly fine in the new case)
- If you mount an SSD into the cage with thumb screws, you can't put an HDD into the slot below it.
- The HDD rails were very inflexible, and probably way too thick for their purposes.
- The pins to hold the HDDs in place on the rails were held in with very thin rubber, making it very hard to keep them in place, especially when I had to use all that force to make them go into or come out of their rails.
- The hole on the rear of the motherboard tray does not line up with AMD motherboards, so I still had to take it out to install an aftermarket cooler (not a real con, but I'm lazy)
- NZXT's fans. They're garbage. Really. They are. I have never worked with worse fans in my life. Their blades are both really soft and really brittle, which doesn't make sense at first, until you gently press on the wrong part of the fan to hold it in place while trying to mount it, and it gives way really easily to have a blade snap after hardly moving at all. And the longevity of these fans? Give me a break. I've had to replace almost all of the fans due to excessive noise after a few months to a year or two. It's not the bearing either. One of the blades broke off from all of the rubbing against its case, and the noise stopped. Obviously, I still had to replace it, but it worked until I could get a new one, and it was quiet. Without the fan issues, most of the cons on this case are from laziness, and this case might have even gotten 5 eggs. NZXT really needs to step their fan game up.

Other Thoughts: I just recently got a new case. I am writing this review after having this case for more than five years. I got this case back when it still had 2x USB 2.0 on the top panel. So, yes. I've had it for a while, and have run into every problem that people are likely to have, however, they may have updated it since my purchase.

Please do not let the wall of text in the cons section deter you from purchasing this case, though. This case was amazing while it lasted.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Nice Case, good price

This review is from: NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: The pros is that it is a full tower with a great design. I would say that the price is pretty decent considering the quality of the case and the materials. The case can really fit anything you you want. it has a plethora of drive bays and space for a lot of fans.

Cons: The only cons i would say is, i was not expecting the case to be shipped in the factory box itself i thought there would be another external box outside of it. but i happened to notice one of the back thumbscrews was bent pretty rough, still useable but very unappealing to the eye and tore a little metal and plastic off.

Other Thoughts: Pretty nice case overall would buy again for another build just hope it doesnt get messed up during shippng

3 out of 5 eggsNZXT Phan-001 case cable problems

This review is from: NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Nice case, lousy wiring

Cons: bad switches, worthless fan controller,

Other Thoughts: I bought this case in anticipation of the release of WIN 10. I wanted to assemble something new, since the last PC I put together was 8 years ago. It had gone through numerous updates, and I wanted to have a larger case. I had a compact case for the previous build.

Let me start by saying that the case build quality is way inferior to the previous case. I had a all aluminum compact case, probably made for a media center application.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this. It comes with a bunch of fans, with room for more. I added an additional 200 mm fan in the top, and a 140 mm fan in the front. There is a lot of room for drives, the mother board, wire routing.

I especially like the appearance. I looks like one of the Star Wars Storm Troopers. However, this is a huge case.

My biggest complaint is the wiring. The harness in this case is a complete piece of junk.

The fan controller is worthless. I can't get any of the sliding switches to work. If I plug the fans into the harness, they won't work. I've had to plug the fans directly into the motherboard, which limits the number of fans you can run. I'm currently purchasing fan splitter cables so I can run the additional fans I purchased.

I also have issues with the power/reset switches.

The biggest complaint is that they are right next to each other on the top. The reset switch isn't marked, or recessed to prevent it from being inadvertently activated. So if the PC is running, You need to be careful to not push it.

I also have a problem with the lighting on the power switch. I've hooked it up to the MB per the cable labels. The power and reset switches work as they should.

But on my case, A blue light shows up on the power switch before the PC is turned on. When you push the power switch, the light goes off, and the PC powers up!! This is totally messed up.

The hard drive doesn't work either.

So if you can deal with the crummy harness, this is a great case.

Here's a disclaimer. This is only the second case I've purchased, so don't have a lot of experience.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: I know I haven't owned this case for more than a day but how much longer do you need to have a case for to know that it's great! It has ports so you can setup a custom water cooling loop, lots of space for SSDs and HDDs, comes with four fans (one 200mm and three 120mm), still has room for more fans (two extra slots for 200mm and on extra slot for 120mm), if you know how to set this up right, it has amazing airflow, It is a big case, so if you are looking to crossfire or SLI, you can do that with ease, comes with it's own fan controller, room for a lot of Disc drives, looks great.

Cons: Not really a con but if you touch it with dirty hands after work like I did, you WILL get fingerprints on it.

5 out of 5 eggsEase of a Full-size Phantom

This review is from: NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Steel / Plastic Enthusiast ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Simplified Installation: The NZXT Phan-001WT is an amazing case that has a lot of well-segregated space. The disk trays and DVD port are a simple pinch-and-clip design that is both functional and sturdy. The case is ready for water-cooling, but was unnecessary for my build. The extra space also provides excellent wire management.

Rapid Shipping: This was the last part ordered for my build and the first to arrive only two days after purchase. I expected a different package and instead was greeted with this not-unwelcome sight.

Organization: The second piece of organization that I appreciated was the box of screws, zip ties, etc. They are all individually packaged and labeled, excluding those for the side panel. Additional side panel screws, rubber lifts for the mobo, PSU screws were also much appreciated.

Pre-installed fans: Love them. My PSU came with a molex-to-6pin connector... And from there, they were off after a minor wire adjustment. The fans are run to readily accept additional fans for the remaining positions, but are by no means necessary to make the pre-installed fans operate.

Looks: Sleek design that just grabs the eye that is both professional and playful. I could easily see this in a modernized office or in a LAN crypt downtown.

QUIET: My older HP has gone through 6 years of constant use. I have nothing against it- but lately the fans have been running hard. At max, the NZXT is virtually unnoticed in our small office. I have an air purifier running in an adjacent room that attracts more notice; probably about the volume of a steady yet light exhalation.

Cons: Size. This thing is a tank. My wife now has the older computer next to this one on the desk- and it is about six inches longer and almost that much taller. That being said, it also gives room for wire management and expansion.

Directions. They would of been nice to have, but nothing a little google magic couldn't cure. Also overlooked the box of screws in one of the HDD trays initially.

Other Thoughts: I seriously doubt my first build would have been so enjoyable if not for this case. Stylish and simple to the point that it felt more like building by numbers then trying to hazard guesses. If I had to do it again, I would think that my second would take less than half the time.

I would give this 4.5 stars if I could as the early delivery would have afforded me time to read the manual and to prepare the box so that my CURRENT build could have taken half the time. Beyond that it is an undeniably excellent case with great features for a first-time build and plenty of space to expand.
