2 out of 5 eggsCase great - Support awful!

This review is from: NZXT Phantom 820 Series CA-PH820-G1 Gunmetal Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: The case is big enough to support practically every build. Although parts are plastic and the price tag high, I am over all pleased. I took off the front panel that goes over the front external drive bays.

Cons: I have had a few washers break, 4 to be precise. I have been in contact and arguing with them to replace them for almost a week. Still not luck - did you notice that I am asking for four (4!) washers to be replaced. For those of you who expect top rate support, don't expect it. It could be an isolated case, but I can only speak to my experience.
However, I have asked for support a couple times on this case and both (unhelpful) responses took days for reply.

Beware, if you want the SD Card slot, the USB 2.0 slots on top you will need 3 USB 2.0 headers which my motherboard did not support nor will many others. However there is a solution, NXZT makes a USB 2.0 expansion header, of which I installed and is working great.

4 out of 5 eggsBig and--Big

This review is from: NZXT Phantom 820 Series CA-PH820-G1 Gunmetal Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Big and roomy
Sturdy
Lots of grommets
Comes with fans top, back, front and side.

Cons: Drive bays

Other Thoughts: This is a big roomy full tower that is not seems as heavy as other towers of it's size. This could be because the only metal on the exterior are the side panels. It comes with 4 stock fans and so far they are quiet. The most intensive program I have ran so far is Star Citizen and Dragon Age: Inq games and I did not hear the fans. I do hear a slight steady hum, just enough to let me know they are working.
Lots of space, there is room for everything and then some.

I do have only 1 gripe, and that is the awful drive bays!
They are so flimsy that when I grab one it feels like I can crack or break one by applying only a little pressure. Also, SSDs have to be attached with screws.
The way the bays slide in is terrible too. The bays do not have a way to be stopped when sliding in. You can easily push them past the stopping point and too far back. That happened to me while installing windows. I was looking at the way the SSD was sitting and accidentally pushed it and it popped out of the other side of the case--needless to say Windows failed at installing because SSD got tossed around.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

This review is from: NZXT Phantom 820 Series CA-PH820-G1 Gunmetal Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: This case is a cable management dream. With the built in LEDs the ability to make the inside look clean and tight is important. The rubber cable leads are amazing for getting excess hidden. The case itself is very durable; I've moved houses with it and transported it in a car several times to LANs. The air intake filters are also quite nice.

Cons: This thing is huge! It isn't the largest tower that you can buy but it is certainly the largest I've ever seen in person. I have a fairly nice computer desk that has a built in computer tower cabinet. The cabinet isn't even close to housing this thing so it sits next to my desk. Moving it to do cable management is a slight pain. Suggestion: cut out a piece of cardboard just big enough for this thing to sit on and place it underneath. I painted a design on my cardboard so it doesn't look ghetto.

Other Thoughts: Like many of you I've built dozens of computers with a large range of cases and there is nothing that really compares to the overall quality of the Phantom. It is similar in some aspects to other high end cases but the Phantom assembles the features better than the rest. As a stationary desktop case I would buy it again. For a LAN rig I'd likely look for a LANBOY.

5 out of 5 eggsBe careful

This review is from: NZXT Phantom 820 Series CA-PH820-G1 Gunmetal Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: This case really is much bigger than you think it will be. plenty of fans (if they come with it), lots of wiring space.

Cons: Mine came with the top panel detached and badly cracked, also missing the side panel 200 mm fan and the hardware kit that should come with it.

Other Thoughts: newegg RMA took care of the problem and is over nighting me a new case, cant wait to build in it. Beautiful case.

5 out of 5 eggsHUGE!!

This review is from: NZXT Phantom 820 Series CA-PH820-G1 Gunmetal Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Case is HUGE and will fit anything you want in it. Plenty of options for fans/water cooling. Plenty of wiring routes. Very good overall.

Cons: Not deducting egg for this, but it is heavy. That just goes with the nature of it.

4 out of 5 eggsSpacious

This review is from: NZXT Phantom 820 Series CA-PH820-G1 Gunmetal Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Lots of...
- Space
- Fan connections, fans, & filters
- Cooling options (I installed a Kraken x61 in the top and extra dual fans on the bottom.)
- LED Light options (From off to crazy w/ infinite color choice)
- Room for cables behind the back panel and plenty of grommet access
- Really love the LED light illuminating the rear connections!

Cons: Not too many cons, but if I get picky.
- You have to remove your 5.25" stuff to remove the front fascia
- Panel removal via panel latches rather than thumb screws would be nicer
- Would have preferred a side panel with no window - Not really my thing.

Other Thoughts: The gunmetal color is nice. White is too bling for me and black is too boring.

3 out of 5 eggsfew things to add

This review is from: NZXT Phantom 820 Series CA-PH820-G1 Gunmetal Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: high end case but with a few issues..

Cons: - why on earth does this case and alot of other cases have 4 dvd/ 5.25 drive bays? save the space and add more harddrive cages! these 5.25 bays get in the way !. i dont need more then 1 or 2 of them. maximum should be 3 of these....

- make the front dust filter and top dust filter easy to remove... you literally have to rip of the panels to get to them.

- the bottom dust filter at the front is very cheap very hard to put back in once removed...

- and the fans in this case royally suck they barley move air.

other then these issues awesome case a legendary case to have

Other Thoughts: fx 8350 still holds up for every possible use for the pc

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Valued NZXT Customer

We are thankful for the feedback and suggestions, what we can say about the case is that it was released in 2012 which HDD drives were dominant devices for storage at the time. As for the quality of the internal parts we will take that information into consideration. If at all any parts within the case degrade over time, in turn we can offer part replacements for the case itself. All we would need you to do is visit our website at www.nzxt.com/support. Once there you will be able to submit a request for a replacement, also we will need an invoice on file as we base warranty on the initial date of purchase. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at 1-800-228-9395.

Regards,
NZXT Support

3 out of 5 eggsGood but not Great

This review is from: NZXT Phantom 820 Series CA-PH820-G1 Gunmetal Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: -Has lots of room and nice cable management.
-The LED's are a nice touch, the kids love to play with them.
-The filters haven't had a chance to get dirty yet, but they look like they will come in handy.
-A couple different options for Radiator support
-Has a nice sleek profile, so it looks nice

Cons: -The hard drive trays are cheap plastic, if you are mounting a SSD it really get flimsy since you don't have the sides of the hard drive supporting the plastic.
- The top is more cheap plastic. Some of the plastic studs/latches attaching it were already broken off when I received it.
- More plastic on the front of the case
- I wasn't that impressed with the fan controller, so plugged into motherboard instead

Other Thoughts: For over $200 I expected better construction. Overall it wasn't a bad case to build in, but it could have been better.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Valued NZXT Customer

We do apologize for the inconvenience, In order for us to achieve the curves and shapes of the case we had to use ABS plastic. With most metals achieving those curves would have been faulty at best. What we can say about any latches or hinges that do break is that we apologize. What we will need you to do is visit our website at www.nzxt.com/support. Once there you will need to submit a request for a part replacement also we will need is an invoice on file as we base warranty off of the initial date of purchase. If you have any further questions or concerns feel free to contact us at 1-800-228-9395.

5 out of 5 eggsNZXT did a great job designing this case!

This review is from: NZXT Phantom 820 Series CA-PH820-G1 Gunmetal Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Case is huge! cable management isn't bad. The led lighting is nice and bright. Lights for the I/O was a great idea and very handy when plugging in new usb or other cables after its up and running. My rig runs very cool in this case and I just upgraded to the Noctua NH-D14 cpu cooler and there's still plenty of room! (If you are familiar with this cooler you know what i'm talking about) My I7 Ivy now runs idle at 32 Celsius. The internal adjustable fan is perfect for aiming at your gpu's or even cpu. I've got an sli config that this fan does help to cool.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: The only thing I would change is to have the option for caster wheels underneath. This case is heavy to start with and now with everything installed its like picking up a car battery. (It comes with an instruction manual?)
