5 out of 5 eggsLovin It!

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB3.0, Matte BLK/Red

Pros: There are so many positive things about this case, I'm probably going to forget to mention some. Here's a highlight of what I love most about this case.

1. Appearance - This case looks sharp. The clean appearance of this case is great example of "Less is More". You don't need all the flash lights on the front of the box and crazy designs etc., for a case to look good. There's just no denying that this case looks sharp. All of my gaming hardware were black and red in design so I went with the black and red to stick with the color theme of my components.

2. Clean - The filters on all of your intake fans are going to keep this system running dust free for years to come. Not having to get out a can of compressed air to blow my system out on a regular basis to keep it clean is making me a happy camper.

3. Cooling - The airflow in this case is more than sufficient for keeping the system cool, and the water-cooling options for this case are outstanding.

4. Cable Management - I had no issues what so ever, getting all of my cables run from behind the motherboard to the system. You will need to use a little common sense in how you run your cables. I started by installing all my devices. Then I connected all of the cables I needed to my motherboard and ran them behind the board. Once your cables are behind the board start tidying them up, and running them towards their final destination. There are spaces available behind the case and tie-down points behind the motherboard that should make this a very easy task. There is a ton of room in front of the PSU mount where you can finally take all of your excess cable, bundle it together and store it well away from your airflow.

5. Sound - This case does run incredibly quiet. My last case was an Antec 900. This is a small apples to oranges comparison, since the Antec is not advertised as a "run quiet" case, I just want to point out that there is in fact a huge difference in sound levels. If you're thinking that the "run quiet" statement might be just a little "gimmicky" and that there really isn't going to be that big a difference in sound levels, let me assure you, it's no "gimmick". The sound proofing on this case without a doubt has decreased the noise level of my computer. When I powered this unit on, I panicked for just a second and looked inside the case to make sure my fans were in fact spinning. I was afraid I had left something disconnected and was about to fry my new system.

I can honestly say that "almost" everything about this case is "perfect".

Cons: Ok no shocker this was coming....
1. No external 5.25 bays. Yes this means no space to mount an optical drive. However, that's not the only drawback to no 5.25 external bays for this case. My board came with an additional 3.0 USB header and a front side 5.25 mounting kit for the USB 3.0 header. So, now I'm unable to use that 5.25 kit, because there is no where to mount it on this case. Aside from optical drives there are other uses for 5.25 bays that you simply will not be able to use with this case. (but do you really want to give up the "clean" look of this case?)

2. The junction box for system fans on this case is nice, but I had to trace wires and figure out where everything ran to and from so I could tie my case fans into my system software for controlling fan speeds (Corsair Link). The junction mount also sits tight up against the padding on the back door, carefully remove this door from the case as you can bend your fan connectors (found this out the hard way). If you do happen to bend them do not get over aggressive on trying to bend them back, bending them back and forth forcefully can cause the metal to weaken and break, carefully, with as little movement as is necessary, get everything back in alignment. You'll need them pretty close to flush to get the door back on without putting unwanted pressure on this junction box.

3. Small openings at SSD mounts on bottom - I had no problem getting the SATA cable for my SSD drives connected through the opening by the SSD mounts in the case, but the power connectors required a little patience to get positioned through the opening, and then tied down on the rear side of the case in such a way that they did not interfere with getting the back door back on the case again.

Other Thoughts: Don't be too turned off by the lack of 5.25 bays on this system. If you really think about it, how often have you actually had the need to put a CD/DVD/BluRay in your computer? Almost everything nowadays is done via digital download.

I do on occasion RIP my CDs to MP3. I've also been uploading my DVDs to digital online movies so I can stream them without having to get up and get them from my Movie Case (lazy!! haha). However, we're only talking a couple times a month at the most, and there are probably a lot of you out there that haven't used an optical disk on your computer since you loaded windows.

I already owned a USB CDR-RW/DVD drive, and I have had no problems using it for what I need to accomplish. I am highly considering buying a new external drive with USB 3.0 and BluRay support. I have a plethora of unused USB 3.0 ports on my computer not being used, and I have plenty of room to put this drive right next to my monitor on my desk, now I won't even have to bend/reach over to the PC to use the optical drive, an external USB might prove to be even more convenient than an internal drive, who knew?

Something else to keep in mind is if your performing a fresh load on your computer, you may have issues using the front side USB for an external optical drive. I have one that I use with my laptop that draws power from the USB, small portable, easy to use. I kept getting an error message from the Windows 7 install that stated no supported drive was found. I moved the USB DVD drive to the rear USB (on board if you will) ports and tried again and fired off without a hitch. Just something to keep in mind.

All in all this is a great case and I have no regrets about this purchase at all. Hopefully I will still be using this case for many many many years to come.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB3.0, Matte BLK/Red

Pros: Great case. Design is beautiful and the power supply shroud makes it that much better. My friends really like the case when we game at my place. The light on the back is great when trying to unplug/replug an Ethernet cord, USB plugs into the case. that light also turns on the NZXT logo on the power supply shroud. The case feels sturdy and built with quality. The small vents on the front - side of the case helps reduce dust build up, because you only have to clean a small area - although that does lead to less air into the case (personally, I prefer cleaning less.)

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid & quiet

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB3.0, Matte BLK/Red

Pros: - Quality of the materials used
- Prewired fans
- Good description of parts included in the box (espescially the type of screws)
- Hidden PSU + lots of space to hide cables
- Looks great
- LED lighting included for the backpanel
- Included dust filters

Cons: - The space behind the motherboard is quite tight due to the sound dampening foam. Good cable management solves the problem if you put time in it though.

Other Thoughts: I bought this case to replace my 8 year old pile of junk of a computer which had an ugly spiderweb-like window. I knew when I bought the H440 that it would be way better in every aspect.
I hesitated a bit before buying this case because it is 5.25-less, but I still have no need for that and I don't think I ever will again :P.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet case

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB3.0, Matte BLK/Red

Pros: Threw in a H100i, MSI gaming 5 motherboard, and Corsair HX750 - could not be happier with the fitment and cable management. It is a REALLY solid case, the sides/panels are all heavy. Plenty of space in the back for squishing cables in. Whisper quiet (though I do have 2 semi quiet 1u servers running about 10 feet from me)..

Cons: The two 2.5 bays that sit below the motherboard / ontop of the power supply box, are a tight fit to get cables to. If you half way remove the power supply, you'll have a lot easier time with this.

2 3.5" HDDs, 2 2.5" SSDs and a radiator - this thing is freaking HEAVY! Personally not a con for me but thought others might find it a con.

Other Thoughts: Got a 15% discount off the black/red via newegg promotion, brought it down to $100 - worth every single penny. I have an old thermaltake I spent $160 on years ago and don't remember being this happy with my decision.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB3.0, Matte BLK/Red

Pros: Very clean case. Installation is was a breeze, lots of space in the case. The PSU enclose is a nice touch, and adds to the overall cable management, which is great

HDD installation is another easy one, again, works well with the cable management system (mainly, rubberized ports to pass cables from one side of the case/mobo to the other).

Installation of my Corsair 140mm H90 liquid cooler was a snap, easiest yet.

Cons: No space for an optical drive, which is unnecessary for me, but should be mentioned.

I ran into a couple of issues, related to cable management and my motherboard. My SATA0 port is in a spot where passing the cable through to the backside of the case can't be done cleanly, it sits too close to the port, so it cannot go directly through and must be looped.

Secondly, and minor, my Aux power connector can't run through the cable management as well. Since it's on the far side of the motherboard, I had to just string it across.

Other Thoughts: A good case. Couple of cons, but not something to knock off an egg, as it's just an issue of where specific things are on my motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Mid Tower

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB3.0, Matte BLK/Red

Pros: Easiest and most enjoyable build by far!

- Great color options (I have the special edition blue/black)
- Flexibility for air and/or water cooling*
- 3 included 120mm intake fans and 1 140mm exhaust fan are quiet*
- Noise dampening on all panels
- Power supply shroud
- SSD mounting points*
- Plenty of tie-downs/cable management routing points*
- Included fan hub
- Dust filter for front intake and power supply
- Feels like I got my moneys worth, solid heavy steel build
- Thumb screws, thumb screws everywhere! The retainer screws on the panels (can get in awkward positions though) but are a nice addition.

Cons: Accent color is plastic and fairly see-through when the HD light blinks. I just used a piece of tape on the inside of the top panel to eliminate that small issue.

Can’t control LED logo/back panel separately (I know, slightly nit-picky).

Other Thoughts: This is my third and favorite case so far and my second from NZXT. I love the clean modern look but and nice subtle accents on this design. I’ve owned this case for just over a month and I still can’t get over how nice it looks.

Addressing the asterisks (not cons, just useful info!):
- Airflow/Fans: While this case has great options for airflow, it's ultimately designed for water cooling. Since the design of the front panel (and the dust filter) restrict the intake fans, they aren’t pushing quite as much cool air into the case as you’d expect from 3 fans. The included fans are pretty good considering the low noise level, but I swapped out the rear 140 with a corsair AF140 and two of the intakes with corsair AF120’s. Those are able to provide more air but without any noise added. With that, I did notice a drop in my gaming temps, but only a few degrees C. However, water cooling the cpu (being pushed out the top) and the gpu (being pushed out the back) would be an ideal setup for this case. Either using an AIO's or custom loop.

For example: I have an h100i pushing out the top, but my gpu exhausts into the case. Because of this, I run the cpu slightly warmer (tops at 60C, not bad). The gpu doesn't care and stays at around 65C on full load. But if I were to water cool the gpu and push that out the rear exhaust, the majority of the heat in the pc doesn't ever exhaust into the case (wonderful, right?!). This is just one thought and my opinion, obviously there are many choices and there is always the option for a custom loop.

- SSD mounts: While these may be beautiful spots to show off your SSD, make sure your power supply has a straight/flat end on the SATA power for it to fit properly. Or get an extender.

- Cables: It looks like there is a bunch of clearance on the back for cable management, but the sound dampening foam takes up most of that space. The portion with the rubber cutouts does have a slight angle to it, so there is more room along there for thicker cables. There are plenty of tie-downs so just spread out the cables to make it as flat as possible.

Other random maybe useful notes:

- I don’t understand how someone wouldn’t know, but just in case…this does NOT have a 5.25” bay. That's the reason I bought it. The only reason I could see a use for a 5.25” bay would be for a fan controller, but once Corsair’s Link or NZXT’s CAM softwares squish a few more bugs (hopefully soon!), we can use software for fan controlling and monitoring our entire system. As for installing the OS, that’s what a bootable USB drive is for. And there are always external opticals on sale for ~$20 if you really need one of those still.

Awesome case for the price. If you are looking for a high end mid tower that has plenty of space and room for water cooling, look no further.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful, not optimum for 360 rads, OK ventilation, Quiet.

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB3.0, Matte BLK/Red

Pros: -Great build quality, finishing is probably perfect.
-Looks awesome in Black /Red.
-Good fans included (4 of them).
-Quiet operation.
-Great cable management.
-Easy installation and assembly.
-Good case for 2x240 rads for the best clearance IMO.

Cons: This is a mid tower case with a design that accepts 3x120/2x140mm fans at the front and at the top + one 120/140mm at the back for a total of 7 fans. Four fans are included (see case specs).

The NZXT H440 that is a good case for water-cooling.

Of course, in order to install a 360 rad at the front, you will have to remove all of the hard drive brackets, and have a pull configuration only. A 240 rad is the way to go. You can still keep the two upper HDD brackets :) and install the rad for the two lower fans.

At the top, you may be able to install a 30mm 360 rad with 3 fans on it for a push configuration, but expect it to be a very tight fit. A 45mm 360 rad, as in my case, means you would have to settle for 2 fans only. The fan closer to the back of the case is blocked by the CPU power-cord. So, 45mm 240 rad at the top is the best option in my opinion.

The space between the front/top bezel and the case is not enough for a rad nor fans. It would be impossible for fans to operate even if you use thinner ones. Totally blocked, no airflow.

Ventilation is for sure not that great, but this case was designed for quiet operation. So it's understandable.

I believe I didn't do much research on this case before purchasing my radiator. This is why I wrote this review for you guys.

Other Thoughts: I wish this case design was a full tower, or just a tad bigger. An inch more space above the MoBo and 2-4mm more space behind the MoBo tray will make this case a lot more practical.
