5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Case

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB 3.0, PWM Fan hub, Matte BLK / Black

Pros: The look of the chassis is fantastic
One of the best features of this chassis is the two removable disc mounts in the lower internal space.
The PSU shell where I can use to hide unused cables, which makes for a tidy-looking system.
Fit Corsair Hydro Series H115i perfectly.
Dust filters

Cons: Side window is a little dark
Poor threading

Other Thoughts: Recommended

2 out of 5 eggsHate it

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB 3.0, PWM Fan hub, Matte BLK / Black

Pros: It's a case, the separate area for PSU is nice, as is HDD management

Cons: I won't go through it all, but among the many things:
1) No support for CD/DVD drives. Seriously? I know they're not used often anymore, but had I known this I never would have bought it (my own fault, someone convinced me to get this instead of a Fractal R4...)
2) Sure it can install a radiator at the top...but kiss your rear fan goodbye as it probably won't fit!
3) Small, cramped space to work in. This is coming from a Corsair Carbide case where I did not have this issue
4) I know there are vents at the sides for the fans...but I don't feel that's "enough" to keep things cool. In fact I think it was a terrible design decision.

Other Thoughts: Not sure whether I want to send this back and see if I can get something else (I'll have to look at Newegg policy) or whether I want to borrow a shotgun from a friend and blast this case to smithereens. This is by far the worst case I have ever worked with of the numerous PC's I've built.
After whatever this case's fate ends up being, I'm going with my original choice: Fractal Design R4.

3 out of 5 eggsDisappointed. Shipped it back and got a Fractal Design Define R5 instead.

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB 3.0, PWM Fan hub, Matte BLK / Black

Pros: - Great looks. Finally, an all black H440.
- Sound dampening.
- Rear I/O has white lights shining on it much like on your license plate.
- PWM fan hub.
- Comes with 4 case fans.
- Manuals have intuitive diagrams.
- Screw bags are labeled.
- USB 3.0 cable is flat.

Cons: - Power button is a simple click instead of that springy, deep push like other cases. A very minor, subjective negative, but I like the feel of a springy push.
- SATA and USB 3.0 cables don't actually fit through the designated cable management holes.
- Thumb screws don't feel good to use.
- Hard drive sleds/brackets are fine for one drive per sled/bracket but are tedious for two.

Other Thoughts: My first shipment was actually defective. There was a dent on the window side panel so I had to ship it back, wait for it to be received, then wait another week. Okay, whatever, mistakes happen. Though, I did work with the original H440 (black/red), and that also had a defective window side panel that was literally stick to the case. Again, coincidence.
So after a week of waiting, I finally get it. I come home to see a big, black cardboard box with my new H440 (window matte black) in it. First thing I did was open it up to make sure it was good. Great, No defects. Great. So I start installing my parts, and the more I worked on it, the more unhappy and disappointed I became with it. Not even halfway through, I stopped, unscrewed everything, and shipped it back. I ate the huge shipping and restocking fee because it’s worth not living with a case I’d be unhappy with. I immediately ordered a Define R5 Blackout Edition.

So why didn’t I like it? I’m coming from a Fractal Design Define R4. Before that, I had an Antec Three Hundred. The R4 showed me what a real quality case was like. Great to live and work with. I expected the same of my new H440. I was actually surprised at the odd design choices. It might work for someone’s first build but not for someone with eight hard drives or wants to repeatedly work on their PC.

My motherboard is an MSI Z87-G65. The eight SATA ports are on the right side angled, meaning the SATA ports are looking to the right side. So I plug in all my SATA cables and realize the H440 case is actually too short (horizontally). The SATA cables don’t actually fit through the designated rubber, cable management hole. I tried, but I would’ve really had to bend the SATA cable at the connector head. It’s the same problem for the case’s USB 3.0 cable.

Next major negative was how the New H440 handles numerous hard drives. Unlike the R4/R5, the hard drive brackets/sleds can hold two drives. Cool, I thought. Clever way to save on material But once you actually attach your hard drives, you realize it’s not cool. It’s actually a hassle. For example, let’s say you attach two drives to one bracket. One on top, one on the bottom. But to access the BOTTOM hard drive, you have to unscrew the TOP hard drive to get at it. It’s just more tedious screwing. The R4/R5 have brackets individual brackets for all your drives. Even more, the R4/R5 brackets can just be popped in. The New H440’s brackets needs screws in as well, though, they have thumb screws mounted on it so you can’t lose them. Still, more tedious work. The R4/R5 have pop-in sleds/brackets.

The side panels have mounted thumb screws. But they don’t feel good to use like my R5. I twist them, and I can’t really tell whether I’m whittling away at the screw threads or if it’s even getting into the screw hole. I constantly feel like I’m shaving off the screw threads. I shouldn’t be feeling apprehensive when working on my own case. Same goes for the hard drive sled/bracket screws. The R5 has the same design choice, but they’re so much easier to use. What’s up with that, NZXT?

I feel like I was tricked by all the positive reviews. But there were reasons why I got it over the R5 originally. I actually worked with the original version H440 twice before and enjoyed it both times. Built a red/black and a green/black for two friends. So I don’t get what happened here. I love the black matte. It felt good. The looks of it are a little bit better than the R5 Blackout. I wish I could’ve experienced what the tinted/shaded window would’ve looked like. I liked what I read about: the white LED light for the rear I/O and the PWN fan hub.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB 3.0, PWM Fan hub, Matte BLK / Black

Pros: Mainly leaving this to offset the genius review below mine. Not sure why Newegg allows such a review to make it to the product page.

Cons: Potential to share the same taste in case as the reviewer below.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid quality but....

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB 3.0, PWM Fan hub, Matte BLK / Black

Pros: Looks great
Very solid build
Great quality for the price
Fairly quiet
fit 280mm radiator perfectly, and was easy to install.

Cons: Screws were very tough and difficult to unscrew, at one point I though I was going to have to return because I couldn't get the back panel off due to the screw being stuck on there.
Very heavy
lots of cables
Increased GPU temp

Other Thoughts: I wanted to get a nicer case than the piece of junk I got when I built my PC and this looked like a great contender. It took me about 3 hours (1.5 longer than normal) to build my PC into this case, mostly due to the difficulty of the screws.

My biggest complaint about this case is the lack of a side fan. My previous case fit a 140mm fan on the side allowing it to blow more air on my GPU. With this case, despite the 3 front fans, my GPU temp has increased from 71 to around 80 at which point the fans kick in to 100% generating a lot of noise, granted this is much quieter than my other case, had it hit 100% in that, but a 100% fan speed does not make quiet noises regardless of "sound proofing". Due to the lack of a side fan, I will have to try and find another cooling option for the GPU as I am not comfortable with the sound, nor the temp.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome buy

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB 3.0, PWM Fan hub, Matte BLK / Black

Pros: Beautiful case. Cable management was amazing. Window is tinted dark if you are into that. Definitely worth the money

Cons: Everything is put into place with screws which makes things fastened securely but can be a pain for installation. Accessing the SATA ports is pretty annoying.

Other Thoughts: It is my first case, so I would try to buy a different case for my second purchase to get more variety, but this case is definitely great.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the best mid-range cases money can buy!

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB 3.0, PWM Fan hub, Matte BLK / Black

Pros: Tons of room! The case is very good looking and very quiet. The PWM fan hub on the back makes this thing even more appealing on the inside. The layout of the case allows for superb cable management and organization.

Cons: Power LED on the case top is BRIGHT. This thing is blinding at night if your case is underneath or to the side of your desk. Make sure to cover it up if it is driving you nuts. I really wish this case had a USB 3.1 hub for the front, but I wouldn't be surprised if they started becoming more popular at the end of 2016. Airflow is nothing special, but that is the price you pay for 'silent'. The back panel is a struggle to shut with all of the sound dampening material. Additionally, I hope the H440 starts phasing some of its 3.5 bays out in favor of some SSD case mounts (perhaps vertical). Lastly, this isn't really a con but something that I have seen from the Define series that I would like NZXT to incorporate in the future. I would really like for provided/built-in Velcro for securing cables on the back panel.

Other Thoughts: I got this version on sale at $90 (black/black). I really wanted the red/black version, but I believe it was priced around $120 and I could not justify that price. At $90, this case is EASILY worth 5 eggs. At $120, I would probably give it 4 eggs due to the cons mentioned.

5 out of 5 eggsHands Down Best Case, Super Satisfied!!!

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB 3.0, PWM Fan hub, Matte BLK / Black

Pros: -Easy to install and very sleek looking
-Foam covered panels to reduce noise are fantastic
-The PSU metal cover is very stylish and makes the case very aesthetically pleasing
as are the SSD slots placed on top.
-Stand off pegs on the bottom to keep the case elevated off the ground.
-Built in stand offs for the motherboard.
-The led lighting on the PSU metal frame and above the mother board plug-ins are also a very cool feature.
-Amount of HDD space.

*And many more...

Cons: - Not having a disk drive slot could be a con, although cd's aren't used much anymore and you can always buy an external one for around the same price.
-I could also see the tinted window (Black Windowed H440) being a con for some people, it is a bit difficult to see your build inside the case. I personally don't mind it I think the NZXT HUE will look even better with the tinted window, once I get one.

Other Thoughts: I am more than pleased with this product. This was my first build and the NZXT H440 made it super easy for me to put everything together and still maintain a sleek and clean look. I'd buy this case for a second build if I could afford to, lol. I originally purchased the NZXT Crafted Series Phantom Black/Green case but after seriously comparing them and watching+reading reviews I decided to return the NZXT Phantom and purchase the H440 which was probably the best decision I made for my build. A friend of mine who also purchased this case absolutely loves it as much as I do.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Case, Very happy with NZXT

This review is from: NEW NZXT H440 STEEL Mid Tower Case. Next Generation 5.25-less Design. Include 4 x 2nd Gen FNv2 Fans, High-End WC support, USB 3.0, PWM Fan hub, Matte BLK / Black

Pros: I love almost everything about this case. The case is well built, the steel feels high quality. But the most impressive are the small details. The stand-offs are pre-installed, and are perfectly straight, so you will feel no resistance when installing a motherboard. Cable management was obviously a major factor in the design of the case, because when you are finished no unnecessary cables will show. The top panel and front panel of the case have NO WIRES, because there are electrical contacts, so you don't need to struggle with short wires. The dust filter attaches with magnets. All of the case fans connect to a small hub on the back of the motherboard panel so no unnecessary wires are in view. Looks stylish yet professional, a lot of thought went into the design and it shows.

Cons: I had some heating issues in my first build with this case. I have 2 gtx 770s in sli and a 4790k using a corsair H-50. Initially I had the front three fans pulling are in, the h-50 in stalled in the rear exhaust pulling air in and the top two 140mm fans performing exhaust duties (because hot air rises, right?). My GPUs hit 89 degrees after 30 minutes of Far Cry 4. Right now the most successful configuration is installing the h-50 radiator in the front of the case and having the rear and top 140mm fans performing exhaust duties. With this set up, the 4790k will occasionally reach 58c but the gtx 770s never get above 78c and 70c (top and bottom) For less demanding games like Fallout 4, the CPU goes no higher than 50c and the 770s stay at 66c and 58c.

Other Thoughts: If you plan to using multiple cards with this case, invest in a good water cooler and install it in the front of the case.
