Rosewill RSV-R4000 Black 1.0mm SECC, 4U Rackmount Server Chassis 8 Internal Bays, 4 Included Cooling Fans

Pros: Cheap and easy to work with. Everything fit as it should and assembled easily. Had enough room to fit my mobo with a zalman cnps9500 cooler.

Cons: The removable plastic hard drive trays are the only thing I didn't like about this case. They are perfectly functional once you force your hard drives into them though. I just worry a hard drive will slide out if I set the case on its back due to the tiny plastic tab that keeps them in their cage.

Other Thoughts: This is a great deal for the price I got it for (65 shipped on sale). The top cover screws are plenty strong to hold the cover even if they are quite small as others have pointed out. I chuckled a little when I saw the warning buzzer, it just plugs into your mobo with about an inch of wire and floats in the air. I highly recommend this case and will likely buy more.

Pros: The price for this case is right where I needed it. I was setting up a MySQL cluster group so I needed a case with lots of HD bays, but decently priced. The case it's self seem to well made for the most part.

Cons: 1 case did have a dead power LED, but that was fine, I used one of the Nic LED's on the front as a replacement.

Who ever designed the tool-less bays needs their head examined. It's what cause me to rate this 3 eggs. The tool-less drive holders are a pain to place on the drives. As well in my case I had to take a hacksaw to them and remove a section of the handles in order to get my power cables to properly connect to all 8 of the hard drives. Without doing that it was so tight of a fit that I just could not get them to connect. In fact I broke part of the power connector form the power supply trying to get it all to connect before I grabbed the hacksaw.

Other Thoughts: Could use a better cable management system. The rail that runs a cross it is fine, but I can see it causing air flow issues.

Pros: Lots of space. Very sold - thick steel. Lots of fan options.

Cons: VERY heavy. Almost too heavy. Build quality not too good. Paintwork easily flakes. Case top is accessed by removing the tiniest screws. Very easy to lose. would have been much easier to just screw at the back like 99% of cases.

Other Thoughts: Probably should have looked elsewhere. This is okay overall but not quite to the level I'd hoped for. Too heavy to bother to RMA so now sitting in storage for some future use.

Reliable cages for Hard Drives

Cons: Cages are not interchangeable, however that is more of a design thing, and not a con.

It can be heavy once loaded with components.

Pros: -Case arrived with good packaging. Structure of the case feels solid. Adequate cooling and plenty of room.

-Drive cages snap in firmly, and are easy to get in and out of the case.

-Decent sound. Not too loud. I can hear my drives seeking over the fans.

Cons: -Drive sleds. These take some manipulating to get drives to snap in. I managed to force a few of the grommets out during this process and just about gave up on it (a few are damaged still but I got them in). Other comments suggest tweaking them a bit, but when you first try to put a drive in, you're most likely in for some fun.

-Top tray is held on by 4 tiny screws. Smaller than a motherboard screw tiny. Would have been nice to have maybe 2 big screws at the back.

-Fans are molex only. Would be nice if they could natively go to the motherboard. Also would be nice if you could mount fans to the support bracket in the middle.

Other Thoughts: I haven't (and don't plan to) put this in a rack, so I can't comment on that aspect. I bought it because it had plenty of space for drives, and I liked the design. I wanted something that was sleek looking and can easily be put away, or racked in the future if I change my mind.

Overall, it's a great case and looks (and feels) like it'll last me a while.

Pros: Well this case is definitely big, and definitely made of thick metal. it came in a nice big padded box,inside of anther box. Quality is amazing, I would buy this case again. Construction of the case is thick.

Cons: Wish it had mounting brackets to put fans across the middle rail. I wish the fans had the tiny 3-4 pin connectors so i could go directly to motherboard, no luck. Needs more holes in rackplate. The lid to the case attaches with TINY TINY TINY screws.. if you don't chuckle when taking these little screws out, then your sense of humor is lost. I would rather have 1 screw in the back that is big to hold it in.

Other Thoughts: Before you mount all your drives in the bays, MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE FAN WIRES/CONNECTORS OUT! They are suprisingly hidden, you have to really look for them. I wish the handles had more than 2 holes in them. the mounting brackets I have miss each hole by less than 1/4-1/2 of an inch.. which means I have to drill the handles at some point to mount it (vertically).

Would like to see more space between Power Supply and where the motherboard goes.

Wish there was a form to fill out to request more keys.

Pros: I needed to build a system that has quiet air cooling capability and my typical SFF/USFF builds were just not cutting it as they required smaller fans at higher rpm which = HIGH noise.

Read the many reviews on this case and seems the biggest issue are the drive sleds so decided to give it a shot given the good price + Newegg had a discount going at the time which made the risk even less.

As many others have said - very nicely built case especially considering the cost. It is primarily steel with a very few plastic parts that do not impact its strength or rigidity. As with 4u cases, there is LOTS of room in this thing. Should work well for large coolers and fans if needed. There or 4 nice rubber feet already attached to the bottom of the unit if you do not plan to rack it.

If you do rack it, I think Rosewill has already changed the handle and bracket design because the latest one I received racks just fine. I do not have the oversized handles that many others have mentioned and it does not interfere with other adjacent components in the rack.

The case does have a removable tray to mount the mother board onto and it is peppered with tapped holes for what appears to support many motherboard form factors.

There is removable air filter built into the front cover that is a nice addition. I usually add this to my builds but will try the manufacturer design and see how well it works.

Paint job is pretty good. No runs and consistent over the whole unit. I did put a few minor nick's in it while wrenching on it so it is not as durable as a baked enamel or powder coat. But it was not advertised as such either. Regardless, it is a good paint job, just use some care as you work on it.

Cons: As others have pointed out, the drive sleds are kind of weak - but after playing with them they are not as bad as some would you to believe. In other words, they are usable. Others have indicated that they are afraid their drives may fall out and I think this an gross exaggeration - at least based on the unit I received.

Yes, the drive caddies are not what you would find in a commercial server, but if you take some time and study how they are intended to work, you can make some adjustments to ensure they work reasonably. Couple of points below:
- They do not work until you actually put a drive in them. They are very flimsy and do not lock into place until the drive is snapped into the bracket. Once that is done, the friction grommets and lock tab on the side of the bracket can properly engage side of the metal drive bay.
- I found that the "screwless" studs on the bracket do not exactly align with the holes on the drive. The materials are flimsy enough that you can force them into the holes, but they do not stay and the stud pops out of the rubber grommet and/or the grommet pops out of the bracket and at that stage, it is easy to throw your hands up and cry "junk!". But hold on. Take a loser look at the design of that bracket. Those metal studs in the middle of the grommet are suppose to be locked into a small slot molded into the bracket. There is a small retention detent that locks the grommet/stud in place, but in my case I could see where the grommet was not fully placed into its locked position in the bracket. Probably <1mm off. But if you are approx 1mm off on each the four studs (let alone just one), that can make for a bad day. The solution I found was to gently push or pull those grommets into their full locked position in the bracket. It took a little persuasion but they did move and once I got them into the position they were design to be in, the studs lined up almost perfectly with the holes in the drives.

Regardless of my tweak above, the drive trays are probably the weakest point I have found thus far and if that is worst - then this is still a great deal.

I will also add that the mounting technique they use for the 5.25" bays are interesting and can also be a challenge. I have never seen a screwless technique quite like this and have to say I was a little skeptical, but it does appear to work (with some additional tweaking - trial and error). Both the 3.5" and 5.25" mounting options are clever, but they certainly appear to have been designed towards saving money and may require some patience on behalf of the end user.

Other Thoughts: I went ahead and replaced the fans on this unit - not out of necessity, but because the stock fans use the 4-pin molex connectors which are not compatible with my fan controller unit. I found that the front fans are not very difficult to replace as other have indicated. You can replace the 120mm fans from the front of the unit without having to remove any of the internal drives or drive bays.

Pros: -Very flexible design- can fit 3 standard 3x5.25 hot-swap modules

-Removable adapter plate to install either a mini-redundant PSU or a standard ATX non-redundant unit

-Front dust filter helps keep the inside clean

-Solid construction

-I like the look of the front panel

Cons: -Could use about 1-2MM more space behind the front door- where the faceplate curves inwards it will hit the eject button on some DVD drives if installed in the middle slot.

-Watch out for the sharp spots on the back around the I/O plate area- got a pretty nice gash today while racking it. Didn't even realize I was cut until I started noticing bloody fingerprints...

Other Thoughts: Overall I would definitely recommend this case- for the price it can't be beat.

Pros: I was a little worried that my heat sink/fan combo wouldn't fit but my fears where for nothing. I am planning on buying another one for my new project.

Cons: None - very happy

Pros: Great price. Lots of room. Solid steel.

Cons: The fans are a bit loud for my liking and they only have an old style 4-pin connector. Will have to spend a few bucks to buy new ones. Deducting an egg for that.

Other Thoughts: I think the case is very well built and is a great value for the price. I read all of the other reviews on this site and I didn't encounter the problems the others had.
