4 out of 5 eggsGood Case

Pros: Solid chassis, comes with rails, wouldn't say it is any louder than any of the other servers we have. Hotswappable fans are nice. Came with a standard ribbon cable for the front indicator LED's and buttons. This plugged directly into the SuperMicro X8DTI-LN4F. It also came with a cable to trade out with the ribbon cable that breaks out each indicator or switch in case the ribbon cable won't work.

Cons: Unless I can't see them or am unaware of why they wouldn't be functional on this particular backplane, there are no LED's on the backplane to indicate which drive has failed. There are solder points, but no LED's. Also had to adjust how the backplane was mounted because the drives didn't align very well with the connections, but that was an easy fix.

Other Thoughts: Only demoted it one egg since I would think the fail indicators would be very important.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent case with minor flaws

Pros: Triple redundant supply, everything is hot swappable.

Cons: Screws. Too easy to strip. Mainboard installation can be quite a challenge, tight on space.

Other Thoughts: Front panel tape connector is not compatible even with supermicro mainboards. It was also glued to the panel. It comes with separate wires for all connectors but to replace them I had to unscrew the panel on 2 cases, the screw head got stripped down on first twist. Also, realigning the panel seems impossible, I just couldn't get it back to original position. I expect a lot more from $700 case.
Also, hdd tray screws are too easily stripped.
One egg taken for screw and panel imperfections.
Overall great case, I will buy more if needed.

5 out of 5 eggsawesomeness

Pros: This case was pure joy, everything fit perfectly, it is very sturdy and well designed. Used supermicro MBD-H8Dii+-F-O motherboard. fan cables and PSU monitoring cable were exact length for this motherboard, they would likely be too short for most other baords. Hot swap bays are high quality and I believe this case (supermicro badge removed) is also used for some digital cinema players/servers which are used to drive projectors in big movie theaters where any failure of the projection system is very very bad, there is no room for poor quality in the world of digital cinema. A really awesome feature is hot-swappable case fans.

Cons: Very short cables, you will have to get extensions if you are not using a supermicro mobo.

Other Thoughts: I will use this case and only this case for any future server builds.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Case

Pros: • Hotswappable fans/power supplies work great
• Plastic shroud runs above CPU to force high airflow
• Easy-to-mount rails

Cons: • Heavy
• No documentation included (could be a problem, especially for SATA hot-swap board)

Other Thoughts: I used this case for a high-availability trixbox IP-PBX. So far it has exceeded my expectations in every area except documentation. It seems like a solid trustworthy product, but time alone will tell...

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic case with some caveats

Pros: Solid steel, great hot swap bays, great sata backplane with extra fan pin-outs enabled by jumpers, solid power supply(Triple redundant is not found in this price range EVER), very modular and easily modifiable, AWESOME RAILS(no screws, adjustable, stable, very smooth). I actually found the case to be very quiet compared to other server cases in the 2u and 3u variety.

Cons: Front panel ribbon is very short. I bought a TYAN S7012GM4NR motherboard along with this case and it turned out that the front panel pin-outs were over next to the PCI-E slots...and the cable was about a foot short. After splicing 16 wires and adding 1.5 feet to each I ended up making it work but that was 2 hours of my life I'll not get back... If you folks over at Supermicro read this, please extend these cables on future revisions of this case =)

Other Thoughts: Overall great case, I'd buy another. In fact I probably will. Oh yeah, I paid for 3 day shipping and it was at my office in 2. Thanks for being awesome Newegg!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Server Case!

Pros: 1st. High quality, sturdy, rack rails, well built case! 2nd 8 Hot-swappable hdd trays, 6 hot-swappable high quality fans, 3 hot-swappable redundant power supply. 3rd. Very easy to keep your cabling organized and clean! 4th. 5.25" bay and slim dvd bay is screw-less design (well not truely screw-less, you still need to screw the slider). 5th. plastic hood is nice to keep a good air flow, it supports the height upto 2U heatsink (w/ or w/o the fans) uptoaround 67~68mm height. I use the thermaltake CLS0005 for my E5520, MBD-X8DTi-O build and fit perfectly. 6th. Price! Cant get anything closer to this price with lot of feature supermicro provides with this case for $599.99 and even free shipping!

Cons: 1st. I hate their screws for the hard drive! They are way too easy to break... 2nd. 1 of the the hot-swappable tray is DOA! Their is an aluminum plate down to the bottom that was bent and therefore the tray can not be slide back! They also seems to be easy to break like that so becareful with them. 3rd. Even if I use Supermicro's suggested motherboard from their site, the front panel pins do not match! You have to unscrew from the top to take down the front panel and change the original cables to the the other one they came with and tie all the little cables together then plug them to the motherboard 1 by 1. 4th. Manual... the info of the documentation they provided on their website for download is very limited! I can not find any documentation for the power supply, how to take down the front panel, how to this and how to that, etc. 5th. not that i can think of for now

Other Thoughts: This case is VERY loud if you are using it for a quiet server environment. It is louder than my server room's vacuum! But hey, they keep your server cool. Supermicro's support is awsome, you dont wait or waste time with any of the receptionist, they redirect you to whatever support you need in a very short time! Also their RMA is fast, FedEx standard overnight cross-shippment will just make you happy. This chasis is really heavy, try not to lift it or put it to the rack yourself or your will get injured for sure. And, NEWEGG ROCKS!! I was lucky that I bought this case for 599.99 with free shipping... just found out it is now 629.99 and need $$ for shipping, hahaha. one last thing, be sure to buy EIDE slim dvd rom if you want the slim one, they ship with EIDE backplane, but i rather purcahse SATA slim dvd burner with additional cable for slim dvd rom. And the power supply comes with 1x24pin main, 2x8pin CPU, 1x4pin CPU, 6x4pin peripheral, 2xFloppy, and NO SATA connector.

3 out of 5 eggsYes a harrier

Pros: (((i have 2 of them running 2 AD's for 5 years give or take) - this case was a lot more than $6?? a lot more
The case is a rock - well made (physical structure) -
solid power - triple yes say it again triple redundant power suppily - it just sounds so sweet

Cons: it's the little stuff - that annouys me -
1) a harrier - owe ya these fans our very load - and one of them the swap able fans just wont sit right and it by it's self sounds like a fleet or harriers
2) the plastic tips on the HS bay trays - well yes you need to be delicate with it - some times it doesnt want to sit right and you have to jiggle it in so it wont pop out
3) in 1 of the 2 had a problem with now always reconizing the drives and not always the some drive but most of the time... so we checked the HS BP owe look a indicated light for each sata and they are all green - so replaced all the sata cables - then maybe 1 HD is shorting the rest so we changed the the HD giving us most of the problems - nope now we changed the next one (we had eight) finally i go back to keeping it simple and bench the board out of the case - no problems put it back in - problems - so finally decided take drives out of bay and connect directly to MB - all is well - that green lite Peice of C**P BP

Other Thoughts: was shorting.... (it only took me 2 1/2 days) well actually it took me 8 hours it took 2 technicians 2 days to give up... any way i am venting -
so to end things like the BP, removable Fans and all the small things are the only problems i have with the case
i dont regreat buying them - and they have more than done the job through a lot of things....
but let me say this again
****ITS FRICKEN LOAD*****
loader than any other 2 or 3 servers i have ever scene put together - think leaf blower load...you have been warned - ....

2 out of 5 eggsGood, but...

Pros: VERY well built case. Great form factor, especially when used with SuperMicro boards. The rails that are included are extremely high quality.

Cons: The absolute killer of this case, is that the hot swap drive trays are horrible. The plastic lip that holds the drive latch is just a tiny bump of plastic. In short, the drive bay latches will not latch or stay latched. As soon as you click it into place, it pops open.

Other Thoughts: I called SuperMicro on this and they were very helpful, or so I thought. They informed me that this was a known issue and they have since replaced the shoddy trays with new ones that have better latches. They cross shipped me the new trays at no charge. However, when I opened the box, I found that the "new" bays were the exact same thing I already had. In fact, during shipping in a highly padded box, 6 of the 8 trays had popped open! This absolutely KILLS an otherwise 5 Egg case. I wound up having to crazy glue the bay latches, which kinda kills the hot swap functionality.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent case

Pros: Very well put together. Great fit and finish. Includes rails, all accessories for mounting slim CD/DVD drive, etc. Overall a very nice case.

Cons: Yeah, it does sound like a plane taking off... drive trays a bit flimsy, no way to secure power/reset buttons, no front panel USB.

Other Thoughts: Paired this with a Supermicro X7DBN board. No issues with cable reach.
