4 out of 5 eggsSolid shallow 1U server case.

Pros: Great form factor.
Shallow depth.
Easy to rack mount with no sag due to the size.

Cons: 40mm fans are not to my liking - may want to replace.
The common request for longer pigtails/power hookups for the fans for sure.
Lack of any type of default hard drive cage(s).
Single PSU only option here.

Other Thoughts: I used this chassis along with the highly recommended motherboard based on the D525 by Supermicro as well.

Having read the comments I also obtained the fan extensions for cabling - the hard drive cage i purchased did not screw in securely, not sure if that is on the Chassis or the HDD enclosure.

The fans will be replaced - I purchased 2 Noctua 40mm fans, but at 10mm depth I'm not certain they'll push enough air over the cpu/mobo for adequate cooling.

2 out of 5 eggsGet the correct MB!

Pros: Seemingly well-built little case, but I couldn't tell you yet, because....

Cons: The case does NOT have a removable back-plate! The case itself is formed for a particular MB port configuration, which is not stated anywhere on Newegg's "specs" section. If you, like I did, buy what is supposed to be a compatible MB based on size, processor, etc., even if it's a Supermicro MB (like I got), it will almost certainly not fit!

Other Thoughts: It is ridiculous to form a case with exactly zero capacity to accept various MB port configurations, when a whole spectrum of MBs are (supposedly) "compatible" with this case in all other respects! Since Newegg's "specs" do not specify EXACTLY what MBs will fit this case, it's a guessing game for you to get it right. I'll be returning all or part of my shipment, based upon what "compatible" parts I can now cobble together. And this COULD all be made clear on Newegg's site, which would save a lot of time and shipping costs. I'll buy local in the future.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat little case, but get a fan extension cable

Pros: The main advantage of the case is its size. This is a very "short" 1U case. The case is close to the one sold in super micro barebones, but getting a different motherboard gives you a better deal then getting the pre-configured barebone

Cons: aside that the case is a bit difficult to work with (tiny screws, not a lot of space) which is expected, the only real issue I had with the case is that the fan cable is too short to work with the only motherboard that you may want to install in this.

Other Thoughts: I learned from another review that this case, plus the SUPERMICRO MBD-X7SPE-HF-D525-O motherboard, are a better deal then getting the preconfigured bare bone. Great advice!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Small Rackmount

Pros: Small size, low noise, adequate power for the size.

Cons: If I had to have a complaint it would be cable management. The front two fans, I would prefer to be clear of any cable restriction however, I don't see any way to route them around. I am not sure how they would improve on this besides make the fan housing a little smaller or have some groves in it to run the cables above.

I am still giving this a 5 star rating since the above is so so minor.

Other Thoughts: I've paired this with..

Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3
GELID Solutions 350 mm PWM Y Cable

Makes a great pfsense firewall(s) with adding in a sata to CF adapter and a transcend compact flash card, I chose a 2gb SLC. I have 2 more of these units, one with a velicoraptor enterprise and a WD black.

5 out of 5 eggs80+ Power, 4 2.5" drives, quad core support

Pros: Room for four 2.5" drives using SuperMicro adapter brackets (need one for every 2 2.5" drives), they cost about $8 each. With no expansion cards SuperMicro approves 4 2.5" drives and a 95w Intel Quad Core. Mounts securely to a rack using ears only, no need to spend money on rails if you don't need them. Short, so takes little room using a two post rack. Power Supply is 80+ certified. Testing with 2 2.5" drives, 65w dual core shows barely 50w used at idle using speedstep, 80w with both cores at 100% usage.

Cons: Motherboard backplate is not removable. If you don't want issues better buy yourself a SuperMicro Motherboard that is made for this chassis! Only has 1 4-pin and 1 SATA power connector.

Other Thoughts: Works great with the SuperMicro X7SBL series. Supermicro adapter bracket for 2.5" drives come with all screws needed to mount to case and mount hard drives. Use supermicro heatsink part SNK-P0016P for this case. Does not come with heatsink plan on $25 for it. SNK-P0016P is awesome, a 1U unit with heatpipes. Has compound applied, but I used Arctic Silver.
