When space is a consideration and you need to use a shallow depth rack, this 1U chassis from SuperMicro fits the bill. The chassis is designed for ATX boards up to 12"x10". This makes it a great choice for people building portable racks since they don’t have to carry all the extra weight.

There are 4 hot swappable 3.5" SAS/SATA drive trays for redundant storage. There's also a full-height, half-length horizontal expansion slot available. The front panel has an array of LEDs including a 2-network activity and a system-overheat to keep you apprised of system status at a glance.

I'm writing this so everybody will know that SuperMicro makes a special adapter cable available on the net if your not using a SuperMicro MB. This will save you from any soldering the front Panel LED's. Supermicro CBL084L, front control split connector cable. Like $7 Oh and the rack rails included are great. This the 3rd Supermicro server that I've built and I couldn't be happier. Cons: Kind of my own fault for not considering it, but since 1U is very thin - stock Intel coolers will not fit. You either need to order heatsink from Supermicro separately or buy a generic one like Dynatron K129 (I've also tried K199 and didn't like it at all due to poor cooling) Other Thoughts: If you are getting this case, I'd recommend getting a Supermicro motherboard as well because case cabling is specifically tailored for Supermicro motherboards. vercomtech 12/14/2009 9:21:13 PM Tech Level: 5/5 Ownership: 2/5 Verified Owner	Rating: 5/5Excellent server chassis Pros: Very durable Wonderful packaging Lightweight in comparison Slide rails included w/ hardware packs Cons: Fans can be quite loud but most SuperMicro boards have a fan speed control that will lower the noise some without impacting cooling. Not a revision K chassis (support for installing LGA1366 mainboards) Other Thoughts: I built 2 servers using these chassis, and I couldn't be more impressed with the quality that this chassis possesses. I was able to install an X8STi in this chassis, but i had to make my own mounting holes / standoffs. If you want a perfect fit - go with a X7DCL-I (It's LGA771 but you're saving time and money that route) 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful. Did you? Cons: Make sure you select the correct board for this case becase of the front panel cables, I made the mistake of building this case with other board than supermicro and ended making a new cable from scratch with a solder. 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful.
