Pros: Great purchase and I am very happy with the chassis and the motherboard. The price was just right too.

Cons: None so Far.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat build quality - watch cable management

Pros: Like most Supermicro cases, this one feels very sturdy and has minimal flexing. Everything you need is included, which means everything fits together nicely.

Cons: Airflow is less than ideal, even for a 1U case. The power supply cables were a little long even for a Supermicro board and had to be bunched up.

Other Thoughts: The lack of cable management raceways means that your cables (SATA and front panel) will be partially blocking the intake side of the fan array. Airflow on 1U servers is never great to begin with, but it's usually adequate -- as it is here. You will need to take your time and really work with the cables to ensure decent airflow.

This is a concern with just about every 1U chassis. What makes this one different is the relatively tight space between the intake side of the fans and the backplane. The quality of the chassis outweighs this issue and I won't hesitate to buy more as I need them. But coming from Supermicro, this feels like an oversight.

5 out of 5 eggsGood quality product

Pros: Very quality construction. Works as advertised.

Cons: Out of two dozen or more units purchased to date, I have only had one unit with one button on the left hand side that was bent and inoperable. I did not have time to return the unit due to production constraints but not a big issue for the customer luckily.

Other Thoughts: When building, after installing MB, manage PSU cables, remove fans, and then go directly to SATA cables tucked under the fan mounting brackets and SATA ports. Just a trick I learned from building a bazillion of these bad boys.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for a 32GB ESX Host!

Pros: The reviews are accurate about the PSU cable. It's a tight stretch. You will need the heatsink I have listed in this wish list for this build. We were able to make the cable inside the case work with the stock HSF, but with the 1U heatsink on the way.. I'm almost positive the extra cable is needed.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=16141511

Cons: PSU cable is barely enough with a stock HSF (which won't let the lid close), so you will need it plus the heatsink in the above wishlist.

5 out of 5 eggsGood chassis and PSU

Pros: This is a very good mid-range chassis for a 1u server!
4 hotswap bays, and with a back plane for SATA drives.
350 watts is plenty of power

Cons: The drive bays feel a bit flimsy, but that's not a huge deal.
Unlike most other server chassis from super micro this one does not include the front panel adapter for the power buttons etc. IF you are using a non-supermicro board you MUST have this cable -->CBL-0084L it's about $10 on the egg.

No documentation on the website, or in the box (I didn't need it but it would have been nice to have)

The fans have a rubber pad underneath them to prevent vibration to the rest of the case, however there is still quite a lot of vibration, which could lower the life of hard drives, and other components.

Other Thoughts: This is a great chassis, and is not really meant for generic boards. I was making a budget machine and had an asus desktop board. I really had to cram the board in to get it to fit, as there is a sound port on the motherboard. It barely fits, but other boards may not be so lucky.

If you can afford an extra $50-$100 GET A SUPER MICRO BOARD, unless you know what you're doing.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Case

Pros: 350W is more than enough power for 4 hard drives (e.g. WD 1tb re3), a RAID card (e.g. adaptec 2405), and an Xeon X3400 series processor (e.g. X3440, 8 cores HT). Comes with

Cons: Only comes with 4 fans, not 5.

Other Thoughts: It only comes with 4 fans, and one dummy fan. With a RAID card in the case you probably want to flip the dummy fan with the last fan, so that the dummy fan is closest to the PSU and there is plenty of airflow over your RAID card.

Take the whole fan unit out to route your own SATA cables, and to change the position of the dummy fan.
