5 out of 5 eggsThis sucker is _built_. Highly recommended.

Pros: I have two of these, both with Supermicro H8DGi-F mobos (dual AMD socket G34). Heavy metal construction, enough room to maneuver, and a nice beefy PSU. You'll need adapters to install 2.5 inch drives, and may need a replacement connector shield (depending on your exact mobo) but otherwise there's everything you need.

One of the PSUs eventually died after 4 years 24/7 service, but a replacement was $100 and arrived in a day.

Highly recommended.

Cons: The usual power supply wiring snarl, but what are you going to do?

Other Thoughts: I'd make it about an inch longer (front to back) to give a bit more room for the power supply wiring, but that's a nit.

3 out of 5 eggsBad power supply

Pros: Everything is there ...

Cons: Very heavy, arrived with bad power supply. Of course took me a couple of hours to figure that out - thought it was something I had done wrong. Plus - how do you RMA a perfectly good case with a perfectly bad power supply?

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but not awesome

Pros: Sturdy construction
Good ventilation
Two variable-speed 4-pin fans
4x 3.5" hotswap bays
Plenty of room

Cons: No USB 3.0 ports
No 2.5" bays
No audio jacks
No sata-3 support
Front bezel hinges are flaky
Power supply only has 2 sata connectors

I knew going into it that it would not have USB 3.0, 2.5" bays or audio jacks. So I can't really complain about that, though those features would have been nice.

However, the front bezel (door) falls off when I open it because the hinges don't hold it in place. This happened the first time, and every time after. Just poor design and poor construction. There's no excuse for that on a case that costs ~$250 and bears a name like Supermicro on it.

I'm sure somewhere in the documentation it mentions that the 3.5" hotswap bays are only SATA II... but it was a rude surprise when I discovered that. If you want to use the built-in hotswap bays, you're stuck with SATA II. And, no, you cannot remove the bay and put in your own.

The power supply only has 2x SATA power connectors. They probably figured that since the hotswap backplane uses a pair of molex connectors, they didn't need any more.

The side panel does not come with thumb-screws. For as much as this case costs, putting thumbscrews on it wouldn't have hurt their profit margin that badly.

Other Thoughts: Over-all, I am very happy with this case. My main gripe is with the front-bezel falling off whenever I open it. With that kind of construction, the front lock is a complete joke. Otherwise, this is an excellent case -- just so long as you keep in mind what it has and does not have.

Make sure your motherboard has 4-pin fan headers to take advantage of the server-style adjustable fans.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Case

Pros: This case is a very sturdy capable platform for high end "server as a desktop" applications.
The power supply is ample and very quiet. It supports our Dual Quad Core Xeons with Raid 5 disk arrays and all the extras without a hitch. The hot pluggable backplane with SAS/SATA connectivity has proved very useful and easy to work with. No issues with things like sharp edges. The documentation is very complete. The LED packages is well done allowing for individual drive light activity indicators, NIC activity, overheat LEDS, etc. Plenty of room for extra fans although I've found the stock configuration very adequate. In short, a lot of bang for the buck.

Cons: The only thing I've heard any complaints on with my Engineering staff is the weight but that is a trade off for strength and capability.

Other Thoughts: I have a dozen of these cases all running SuperMicro Server boards with Xeon processors to allow staff to take full advantage of virtualization limiting the demands on our traditional test environment and allowing for more flexibility. These cases have proved a very good base for these high end systems.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this

Pros: look good

Cons: Supermicro get worse in tech support along with newegg.
Port 2 on hot swap sata does not work - which gives error message drive failed.

Move drive out of the sata case, it works fine.

Other Thoughts: Cannot return this unit since I throw away the box, since I have high expectation about supermicro product.

It is not nice that you buy a product not working and cannot ship back since you don't have a box.

Supermicro support is worse...
