Nice for the price
- Pros: Smallest case I could find without going for the more expensive mini-itx cases.
Case looks amazing and the shiny front bezel does not seem to get scratches when cleaning dust off it.
Good price with shipping.
Has some sort of glowing star design (google image the model#) BUT they can be turned on/off with a button AND you can't see the "unlit" stars when they are off unless you put a high powered light up to the bezel.
PSU is quiet and works (for now?)
- Cons: Unlike what the photos show and some other reviewers have said, I did not get an 80+ PSU (or at least mine doesn't say 80+ anywhere).
The exhaust fan is meant to be plugged into a fan controller on a mobo (3 pin) otherwise you need an adapter for the PSU to connect it. (Again on the PSU I received in the case, others may vary)
There are no directions with this case so I gave up on figuring out the tool-less drive bays after 5min and just used screws.
Depending on your motherboard the leads for the front buttons and USB might be a little short or hard to place.
- Other Thoughts: I used this to build a mini-itx server and found the case size to be a good compromise between a super small pricey mini-itx case and a larger mATX case.
I took an egg off for the PSU. Some people might receive an 80+, some might not, but I think Foxconn could have stuck with 1 PSU type and published the info on it correctly. Also I did not have an adapter for the back fan to plug it into the PSU, which is inconvenient.
The shipping for me was ~$13 for this case, but for the Ark PI-01 (a mini-itx cube) that is way smaller than this was $20?
DIFFERENT POWER SUPPLY
- Pros: Looks nice. I like the gloss finish on the front. I am going to use this system for HTPC build (BR Drive + AMD 7750 + 780G chipset, great combo). build quality is OK for price.
I bought it because it's cheap and the front is very clean looking, and has door that will go over the BR drive that might help quiet down the drive... who knows....
- Cons: the power supply in the picture is NOT what was installed in my case. mine has a 400w SINGLE 12v rail. 1 80mm rear fan power supply. It does NOT seem "silent" when I turn it on.
- Other Thoughts: Had I known they switched to a single rail cheap power supply I probably wouldn't have ordered this case. I'm sure it will work well for a while...
OH and the stars are on front can be turned off... for an HTPC you pretty much want NO lights on the front, and the stars are the oppostie of that.... But they can be turned off..
Quality: Maybe, Value: Deffinitely
- Pros: First and foremost, this case is just a great deal. You get a stylish, compact, fully featured case and versatile 80 plus power supply for about the cost of either alone.
The case is pretty sleek; it's all black down to the thumbscrews. I wish they could have used a gloss paint on the metal surfaces to match the plastic, but I guess the powder coat may hold up better. At only 7.1" wide and 14.2" tall it is one of the smallest cases I've seen with full length expansion card slots and dual 5.25" drive bays.
I find it odd that Newegg doesn't provide any description of the aesthetic features of this case. The front panel of the case is actually transparent, and there is an array of LED lit X's in the shape of the Big Dipper. The LED's flicker and fade in and out, and they can be switched off from inside the front door.
The power supply has some really nice features. The 140mm fan is near silent, and the voltages are very steady.
The 90mm fan at the back is also very quiet
- Cons: No Documentation (manual, setup guide, contents list, etc.)
It isn't very sturdy. The back panel in particular bends very easily. Mine was also a little deformed. The whole frame is tilted forward slightly. It isn't really a problem, though; installing the side panel pulls it square. I can't tell if it is related, but the expansion card slots also don't line up just right. I wish they would have made it out of thicker steel, but I like that it's light weight.
The front panel audio cable is short, and just barely reaches the connector on my mobo.
The front door is difficult to open and close, and feels like it will break easily.
The side panel air funnel was useless for me. It didn't line up with my CPU heatsink.
There is no way to directly cool the hard drive bays with a fan.
It's pretty cramped inside the case, but that comes with the form factor.
- Other Thoughts: I think it's funny that the European version of this case has stars of a different shape. They're star of Bethlehem (cross) shaped.
As always, Newegg delivered the case fast and hassle free.
