Apex’s MI-008 case is a great choice for instances where you don’t have a lot of space for a system. It would work well in kiosks or as a video wall controller. You could also use it to control information signs in a hotel or airport. Its small size would also make it a good choice for a HTPC.

The drive bay housing tilts up for easy installation. There are two external bays, one 5.25” and one 3.5”. There is also a 3.5” hard drive bay. The front panel also has two audio jacks and two USB ports. Once everything is installed put the lid back on and you’re good to go.

  • newegg Stands Horizontally or Vertically The APEX MI-008 can be laid horizontally on your desk or vertically on the floor to fit your working space.
  • newegg HTPC System with 3 Drive Bays Featuring an external 5.25" drive bays and two 3.5" drive bays (one external and one internal), the APEX MI-008 provides sufficient expandability as an HTPC (Home Theatre PC) case.
  • newegg Convenient Front I/O Panel The APEX MI-008 features a convenient front I/O panel for easy access to two USB 2.0 and two audio ports.
  • newegg Built-in 250W PSU The APEX MI-008 is equipped with a 250W power supply unit to handle typical power consumption for most Mini-ITX systems.

5 out of 5 eggsReplacement for blueray player

Pros: Somewhat small only having a little bit of height to it
has just enough space for an amd stock heatsink for the althon 5350
Power supply is somewhat unreliable but it works planning on replacing at somepoint

Cons: Broken front hinge but considering I need the front usb ports it couldn't have closed anyways so its fine.
Hard to build in if you have a dvd/blue-ray drive in makes you have to plan the wiring better with almost no room for anything

Other Thoughts: Power supply could have been better but at least it works just wish it had a little more wattage to is so I don't need to replace it

4 out of 5 eggsNice small case, but fit too tight

Pros: Small size.
Slots for two desktop hard drives.
Manages to stay cool.

Cons: 1. The biggest con for me was that you can't really use a full size blu-ray drive with the thing. It has the slot for it and my drive ALMOST fit, but because the power supply only has straight SATA power connectors and no right-angle SATA power connectors you end up crushing the wires coming out of the connector between the optical drive and the power supply. This may not be a concern to the manufacturer, but is of some concern to me. It is possible that I could buy a new blu-ray drive that isn't quite as long, but something buyers will need to consider.
2. I feel like they could have made the case smaller if they used an itx power supply.
3. Can only fit single slot video cards (was expected).

Other Thoughts: TLDR; Don't use dual-slot video cards. Be careful with optical drive length.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty small case, but nice

Pros: Enough room for BR/DVD drive, full size SATA drive and front panel 3.5" accessory. It can be used vertical or horizontal. Power supply has plenty of plugs. (1) 20+4, (1) 4 pin processor, (1) floppy, (2) 4 pin peripheral and (2) SATA. I was pleasantly surprised at the 2 SATA plugs, the other reviews referenced only ONE.
It has two places for 3.5" HDD's. Next to the MB or under the DVD drive. I did not install anything in the 3.5" front panel so I used that slot for the HDD.
The power management in BIOS shows the voltage from the PS holding steady, no variations +/-. I didn't expect that out of a case with PS that costs less than most power supplies by themselves.

Cons: Front panel is glossy black, it shows every finger print if you care about that kind of thing.

Other Thoughts: I had to "modify" the hard drive shelf under the DVD player. This really wasn't the case design fault. My MB came with 2 SATA cables, 1 end 90-1 end straight, and the SATA connections on the board were facing each other. If I had at least one with straight at both ends I would have been fine.
My MB configuration has the memory directly under/at the back of the 3.5" HDD shelf (that I had to use) and my memory heatsink was a bit too tall for the HDD SATA plugs. If I had short memory, low/no heatsink memory, straight SATA cables or a combination of these things everything would have went together in 5 minutes.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Case!!

Pros: This thing is small and I can see where it could be a little tight for some builds. I had no problems fitting a Biostar A68N-5000 in it. There were no problems with heat sink clearance because my board has a very short passive heat sink for the APU.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsGood size for an m-ITX case

Pros: Compact, yet just enough room to maneuver. Very easy to assemble if you remove the power supply first. Just about as small as you can get for an m-ITX case.

Cons: No reset button. Upper bay for optical drive only, cannot remove panel to use for other inserts. Front USB ports 2.0 only. Ports hidden behind closed door which you have to leave open if you want to use USB bluetooth/RF adapter. Front bezel in glossy piano black which shows fingerprints. Power button hard to push (spring too stiff).

Other Thoughts: Front bezel has place to insert LED to provide a lighted side stripe (not mentioned in any description). Case too small for case fan but there are plenty of holes for ventilation. Power supply wires could be a little shorter. Caution: if you use CPU heatsink with fan, you have only 50 mm height clearance. (I am installing an ASRock Q2900-ITX motherboard which uses passive cooling.)

Have decided to return this case in exchange for a Thermaltake Element Q case (exact same case, just different front bezel) because I need to use the 5.25" bay for other purposes.

5 out of 5 eggsNeat Little Case

Pros: Made well enough, plenty of length on the wires for all items, fan in the power supply is really, really quiet. For a cheap case, this just works. If the power supply lasts I'll be totally satisfied on this.

Cons: Power supply is questionable, but I'm probably using all of 20 watts total so if it dies at least it won't be due to the load I put on it.

Other Thoughts: I don't see how anyone can reasonably expect more from a $40 case and power supply combination.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: + Looks nice, small and lightweight
+ Doesn't feel cheap
+ PSU works

Cons: - Cramped.. but this is a mini-itx case so what do you expect

Other Thoughts: This case is small but I had no problem fitting my AM1 Athlon 5350 inside with the stock heatsink. There wasn't a lot of clearance left between the PSU and the top of the heatsink but it did easily fit. The Athlon 5350 has no problems keeping cool, even at full load for days.

I'd buy this case again.

5 out of 5 eggsNice, compact, quiet

Pros: Small and compact mITX case, comes with PSU, full 5.25" and 3.5" bays. PSU has an intake fan that is above the motherboard, keeping it nice and cool. Allows for full height PCI card.

Perfect for HTPC.

Cons: No native bay for a 2.5" drive, however using an adapter or Velcro solves that problem.

There is plenty of room to put multiple HDDs in there, but I would have tossed these and made it a bit more compact.

Other Thoughts: As other reviews have mentioned, even though I see some dead space, the PSU sits above the motherboard with maybe an inch to spare. So make sure everything you plan to put on the motherboard will fit.

4 out of 5 eggsONLY GET THIS FOR VERY LOW PROFILE SETUPS!!!

Pros: It's a small, nice looking case. It's not a super high quality or sturdy case, but it's at least of average build. Was easy to take apart and assemble. I had no issue mounting a motherboard in it.
HOWEVER!:
** MAKE SURE YOU MEASURE YOUR PARTS BEFORE YOU BUY THIS **
I got a Zalman low profile CPU fan and it at least 1/4" too tall. You will need to get a cooling system that is VERY VERY low because there is very little clearance below the CPU. Same with RAM.

Cons: None that are the fault of the case. I gave it 4-eggs because the build quality and all are about a 4-egg. It's an average case. DEFINITELY measure before you buy because this thing is VERY compact.

Other Thoughts: MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE! This case is very very compact, you will need an extremely low profile CPU cooling system and low-profile RAM
