5 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: Its a beautiful case, it looks even better in person then in the picture and the lighting is awesome. I was worried when I started to put it together that I did not have all the items I needed to put in all my old gear. It was great to find a little tool box underneath that contained all I needed. The case unfolds like magic letting you install everything. Not that I needed them but there is instructions right on the box and a book to. Everything went smooth and it looks super slick. Built this for my step daughter and she loves it. Plenty of air running threw it as well and I love the idea of extra video card support from the other side. Other cases leave you hanging on that , literally. Very sturdy construction and awesome handles to get into the case. I have 3 other computers all in Antec 900s and now I'm thinking i might order three more of these. Was packed excellently and came in perfect shape, not a scratch and as always great service from newegg.

Cons: The front door needs either better or more magnets to keep the door shut. Not that it does not stay shut, but I think it would be better if it clicked shut with more magnetic force, I made sure I took off the magnet film, but it still seems weird. I add a few magnet strips and it works just fine.

1 out of 5 eggsThis case is not special

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: You can put stuff in it and it will mostly work.

It is silver and black which my wife wanted.

Toolless drive bays.

Cons: Most of the "features" of this case suck. Fans are loud, the big one screams (I have to replace it).

When you remove the hype around the features of this case what you are really getting is a basic old school atx case with some poorly thought out modifications.

The things that "look cool" on this case serve no purpose, the front door is purely something to hang led's off of, not all of which work. You have to open it to access even a power button.

The "dirk tooth" gpu stabilizer is pointless.

No cable management available under the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: This case is alot of smoke and mirrors, buy something functional.

The front panel(one of the LED's never even worked) and dirk tooth just get in the way. From an aesthetic point of view these are selling points. In reality they are significant design failures.

A square featureless box for a fraction of the price would probably work better. Also the case is made out of similar rough cut aluminum. To the touch it resembles a 20 year old case.

I guess it isn't expensive. I'm going to deal with it, it doesn't NOT work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We're sorry that some of the LED's did not work.
If you need parts, lighting, etc, please send a email to rma@raidmax.com for faster respond/service.
We appreciate you choosing Raidmax products.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: Fits everything pretty well for a moderate gaming build. Have ASUS Crosshair IV Formula; Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus (with additional fan), CORSAIR HX Series HX750 , EVGA 01G-P3-1561-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti, AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, and G.SKILL Ripjaws Ram. For a daily use, air cooled machine this case has been adequate for many years. This computer was built 04/2011 and everything is still working and running fine after all these years. Computer has never had to be rebuilt or any parts replaces. I give only 3 eggs on this case because when gaming I would get the occasional blue screen of death from the gpu over heating. I removed the side panel to allow better air flow and seemed to "fix" the problem. I just feel the case doesn't really allow enough room for enough air flow to keep everything cool enough under heavy (max settings while gaming) load.

Cons: Not overly great air flow. This isn't a dedicated gaming computer. Heavy/daily work computer, on at 12 hours a day for work. With moderate gaming evenings and weekends. Highly recommend spending the extra $ on a better case if you're sticking with air cooling.

Other Thoughts: Built pretty much the same computer with a Antec Lanboy air Blue Black / Blue ATX Mid Tower Computer Modular Case. Absolutely zero issues with this case with only air cooling. My favorite case for air cooled machines by far... only it's not available anymore... what a bummer.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent case for the price

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: Tooless construction is nice, LEDs are bright with a nice color, ample room inside. Foldout panels are nice but don't see too much use. Window is a nice size. Front is designed well, very easy to install FDDs and optical drives.

Cons: The door can make it annoying to get to the front ports. There's no way to adjust the brightness of the LEDs, and the side fan uses the same power as the LED, so you can't use that if you prefer to leave the LEDs unplugged. Fan on window need to be plugged in while holding the panels half-open, can get in the way if you need to open it back up.

Other Thoughts: Mine came shipped with the front LEDs' power cable disconnected, and I had to fish it out of the case frame with a paper clip. Whole front of the case is plastic, but seems sturdy enough.

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad, but not great

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: This is an affordable case that offers some great features for the price. The doors open downward to make cable and component installation very easy. In fact, there were a few times I almost forgot and tried to squeeze my hands in to plug a fan wire to the motherboard until I remembered I could just open the motherboard try and easily plug the fan in.

The case looks sharp and the front door magnet seems to hold the door shut just fine, but not too tight. The drive bays are easy to install hard drives, floppy drives and cd/bd rom drives into with the cases easy mount feature.

Cons: The stock case fans are a bit loud...not too bad, but louder than I prefer. I'd say they are good for stock fans however. I had to remoce the fan on the left of the case mounted to the window to install an after market CPU heatsink/fan combo (Cooler Master Hyper 212+) so if you plan on this you may want to consider a case with a little extra width. I simply moved this fan to the other side of the case where there is a place to mount an additional fan overy the drive bay.

Lastly, the way the doors are set up takes away some room for cable management.

Other Thoughts: Good case for the price, nice features for cheap

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage case

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: This is a garbage case. Spend more money and get something different and new. Don't look at how many reviews it has because it's an old case.

Cons: Everything.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
What is wrong with the case?

1 out of 5 eggsRaidmax.....

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: None

Cons: I said No Pros , but it's somewhat a good looking case.

But it has no cable management , the Dirk tooth is a JOKE.
Build quality is so-so. Power button is DEAD.It started up the computer by itself then shutdowns.
Would not recommend this case , there's way better cases on the market for same price , or even less

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
If the power button is dead, we can replace it.

5 out of 5 eggstakes a beating!

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: I've had this tower for about two years now. I got it as a gift during college because I needed an entirely new computer to keep up with the programming and graphic design I was doing.

Durability:
Over the past two years I have unfortunately moved four times but every time I've moved this tower has stayed together, remained unscratched, and even kept all of my hardware safe and sound (except my R.A.T. 3 mouse.. r.i.p.)

Fold down doors:
The fold down doors are a truly amazing thing except one small issue (see cons) and they really help if you plan on tinkering a lot in your case.

Fans:
The fans that came with the case are still pushing strong and the only reason I plan on replacing them soon is because I want to add more LED fans in the case.

Size:
The case is also gigantic so I can easily fit my 11 inch graphics card with no problems.

Cons: Cable management:
Like everyone else says, cable management. When I first got this monster I didn't really care about such a silly thing because I was young and new to the world of PCs, but over time I have come to realize that PSU cables are awfully ugly and I kind of wish they just didn't exist. ever.

Fold down doors:
Another little issue is still on the cable management side and that is that if you do like the rest of us do and hide the cables wherever you can no matter what you will have to rework them because as soon as you open the fold down door the cables go everywhere again. Still not enough to lose an egg.

Other Thoughts: Considering this is my first and only gaming tower I can't be too certain if it's the best out there, or if Raidmax just got this one right, but I definitely plan on keeping this beast for as long as I can (though I may one day switch to the green one. No reason, just like green.)

5 out of 5 eggsLove da foldout

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: The side panels open easily. The foldout feature is a dream. The design is not over kill. Ample room to work in, or upgrade.

Cons: Wish it had USB 3.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case for beginners

This review is from: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black/Silver 1.0mm SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Foldout MB Computer Case

Pros: - Great ventilation if kept clean.
- Easy to open side panels
- Very solid case. Its a brick, and weighs about as much as a house, but you will not have to worry about this case taking any damage if the apocalypse comes.
- The parts tray underneath the drive bays was amazing to me when I bought this.
- Tool-less drive bays make it super easy to add and remove hard drives or cd drives if necessary.
- The drive bays are removable as well, to make more space for cable management or video card. I used it a lot to get cables set where they needed to be before putting the hard drives back in.
- The cooling fan on the video card arm is really something special. and it has small arms to help hold the card in place.

Cons: - Cable management is no where to be found without having to remove parts. no space behind motherboard really to do any kind of organization. As stated in other review though, get a modular PSU, and it will help.
- Can be a pain to clean simply because of the video card arm and how cluttered it can get. Space on inside is not as big as you think.
- The magnet on the door stopped holding the door closed for me after a few years, which kinda stunk. The door would swing open on its own on occasion. Which, btw, is not awesome when playing horror games in the dark.
- Because its such a sturdy case, it can be a bit difficult to open the panels due to stiff handles and such, but not really that big a deal.

Other Thoughts: I had this case for around 6 years before upgrading to my lanboy air, and now I just case swapped to an NZXT H440. I honestly feel that I never would have known what I wanted in a case if I did not have this one as my first real BYOC case. It has everything anyone building a computer for the first time would need. Pretty lights, cool look, awesome see-through side panel, a million slots for hard drives and such, and all in a very budget conscious price. When I bought this case originally, it was about $100 at the store I got it from. I have recommended this case to everyone first starting out for years, and will continue to do so until I find a better starter case, and in 7 years that has not happened yet.
