The Smilodon case from Raidmax makes assembling a system easier than ever before. It has a modular, tool-less design that makes the initial build and future upgrades easy. Both side panels latch into place for easy access. For the ultimate in convenience the right side panel has the motherboard tray completed with backplate attached. This lets you install the mobo and all your cards, then lock it into the case as a single unit.
Drive installation couldn’t be easier. The external bays all use Clicklock technology, just slide the drive into the bay and lock it into place. The hard drive rack is removable for easy installations and upgrades. All of the necessary drive rails come in a slide out box so you don’t lose them.
Once you have everything assembled you need to make sure it stays cool. Raidmax has loaded the case with plenty of fans. A 120mm fan is mounted on the front of the case to draw cool air in and blow it across the hard drives. Side and rear mounted 80mm fans keep the air moving over all critical components. There is also an 80mm fan with blue LEDs that mounts to a support brace that holds your expansion cards steady and blows cool outside air over them.

Awesome!!
- Pros: Sturdy, well equipped, excellent tooless features, the cage for the hard drives swings out easily and removes completly so putting the drives in. With my full ATX K-9 Platnium there is plenty of room. Excellent ventillation and quiet after I installed a side vent fan or three hard drives and sata DVD RW. With two video cards and both PCI slots filled while full, the case is not cramped. Any problems with side clearance depends on being smart enough to buy the cable lengths you need to lay them down.
Sturdy - heavy - well built. It is not portable but that is what I wanted.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I don't often write reviews, but this is the most impressive case for the money I have found to date.
makes life easier
- Pros: Good cooling, excellent accessibility, and overall the build quality is good. It's really heavy. It weighs about 25 pounds with nothing in it. For me that's a pro.
It's really easy to access everything on your motherboard. Even while your computer is on. Just lift up the latch on the right and the door swings open- and everything is laid out right in front of you. Cards and all. The case keeps my video card much cooler than my previous case, a thermaltake matrix. It's an 8800gt and it idles around 65C (as opposed to 80C in the other case), even without the Dirk Tooth fan on. I'll get to the Dirk Tooth fan in the cons. The 5.25 retention mechanisms are tool free, and they do a good job. no buzzing from my dvd drives or anything. The hard drive retention is better. Clip-on mounting brackets on both sides of the drive, and the drive slides in and snaps in securely.
- Cons: My number one con would probably be the door. If I even have an SD card in my reader, the door won't close. I tried removing the grill but that didn't help. I would have to cut into the plastic ribs. Also if I plug in a USB drive the door won't close. Or headphones. Then there is the Dirk Tooth thing. It's pretty much useless. It's supposed to hold your video card in but I don't think my card needs help. And the fan doesn't circulate well because the slits cut for it on the plastic window are too thin.
I like the idea of the tool box, but once you get everything put together, the box becomes inaccessible. The fans could be quieter as well. I ended up replacing them. The blue LED fan is particularly noisy. The grill over the front 120MM fan gets dirty very quickly, and if you press too hard on it while cleaning it, it falls inside the case. I ended up putting more hot glue in there than it came with. Make sure you buy long cables too. Especially IDE - nearly 2 feet is needed.
- Other Thoughts: Despite its flaws, this is by far the best case I have ever owned.
One more important thing: DO NOT but a tall CPU cooler for this case. it WILL NOT FIT. About 4" (8cm) is all you've got for most power supplies. If you do buy a tall CPU cooler, you will not be able to open/close the door with the motherboard tray on it, and it will be nearly impossible to build your computer.
That Dirk Tooth bar comes out real easy. Take that out and put in some cold cathodes and this case looks real nice.

mostly great
- Pros: i got this case when i built my computer as a christmas present to myself. i read mixed reviews about the case door sucking and a poor power supply, but the case door was fine. the power supply was a different story. the LEDs look great, i've got 3 blue fans and a red one and they look great in the dark.
- Cons: the power supply just blew after about a month. i just ordered another, but hopefully the old one didn't take out anything else when it went. the case would have still been a great deal if the power supply wasnt included, so it's not that big of a con. assuming it didn't fry anything.
- Other Thoughts: i'm very happy with the case, and recommend it as long as you're prepared to get another power supply.
REBATE IS A SCAM!
- Pros: The case itself is great. The design is well planned and the materials are sturdy.
- Cons: DO NOT get this if you think you will get the rebate!!! I wish I had read the other reviews about Raidmax not honoring its rebates! I am now out $40 after two months, others have waited longer with nothing. This was a dirty way to do business by scamming people. I will NEVER buy another Raidmax product.
- Other Thoughts: Newegg needs to remove the rebate offer because it is false advertising.
Raidmax Smilodon
- Pros: I just love that case. i have been looking at it a year now an FINALLY i bought it. the fact that i can drop the down the motherboard side and work with ease comes in handy. all in all its great. i got everything that was suppose to be there. the 120mm fans rear & front. think i might change them but not now.
- Cons: i don't have much to say. but i got the box and it was dirty. thought it would have been in a brown box. lol.. anyway i got it. O i think they should give the 80mm fan for the opposite side. i.e the motherboard side cover & A raidmax sticker.
- Other Thoughts: i must say this will be my one an only case. for ever n ever. any changes will be done, it will be motherboard, processors, memory & video cards. i was gonna upload a few pictures, but not now.
