The Smilodon case from Raidmax makes assembling a system easier than ever before. It has a modular, tool-less design that makes the initial build and future upgrades easy. Both side panels latch into place for easy access. For the ultimate in convenience the right side panel has the motherboard tray completed with backplate attached. This lets you install the mobo and all your cards, then lock it into the case as a single unit.

Drive installation couldn’t be easier. The external bays all use Clicklock technology, just slide the drive into the bay and lock it into place. The hard drive rack is removable for easy installations and upgrades. All of the necessary drive rails come in a slide out box so you don’t lose them.

Once you have everything assembled you need to make sure it stays cool. Raidmax has loaded the case with plenty of fans. A 120mm fan is mounted on the front of the case to draw cool air in and blow it across the hard drives. Side and rear mounted 80mm fans keep the air moving over all critical components. There is also an 80mm fan with blue LEDs that mounts to a support brace that holds your expansion cards steady and blows cool outside air over them.

  • newegg Convenient Installation The Raidmax Smilodon features a fully removable motherboard tray for easy system upgrade without removing your PCIe/AGP/PCI cards. Plus the tool-free design ensures quick assembly of other devices, saving your precious time.
  • newegg Transparent Side Panel Window The Raidmax Smilodon’s fantastic transparent side panel window provides a direct view of the inner system. The 80mm fan’s blue LEDs add stylishness and eye-catching fun.
  • newegg Superior Expandability with 10 Drive Bays Featuring four 5.25" external drive bays, and six 3.5” drive bays (two external and four internal), the Raidmax Smilodon provides superior expandability.
  • newegg Efficient Ventilation The Raidmax Smilodon features one 120mm front intake fan, three 80mm fans and side vents for efficient ventilation and effective system cooling.
  • newegg Video Card Cooler and Stabilizer The side video card stabilizer with an 80mm fan cools your video card and prevents it from moving for enhanced system stability.
  • newegg Convenient Front I/O Panel The Raidmax Smilodon features a convenient front I/O panel for easy access to two USB 2.0 and two audio ports.

5 out of 5 eggs8 years later

Pros: durable

Cons: Front usb and sound ports have rusted and stopped working

Other Thoughts: Purchased this in 2008 for a gaming rig. It has stood the test of time and much travel as I've hauled this to many lans. However there are now some issues. The USB front ports are rusting and no longer work. As well as the front sound ports. All the fans are still running though and there has not been any issues with case durability.

4 out of 5 eggsStill running since 11/27/10

Pros: It's still working after 5+ years of heavy gaming.

Cons: The front door has been a pain, I ended up taping the thing shut while building and playing.
The dirk tooth was a nice touch, but was removed because my video card was to wide to fit with.

Other Thoughts: Honestly for my first build and rig, it was perfect. It is still running to this day. (Built in 2010) I can say if you're building a rig with this case, check your dimensions. It has some clearance issues in areas.

4 out of 5 eggsA frustrating but pretty good case

Pros: Easy install of drives and MOBO. Nice big window to see the work of art that is the MOBO, mem, and video card. Steel construction except for the front. Has a nice professional look.

Cons: On the window side of the case is a steel bar that goes from the front to the rear of the unit. On it is mounted a snap-mount fan mount. But there are three pieces of plastic that are grooved with teeth and are movable within their respective grooved channels. What the heck are those?! They're in the way of the video card! I had to take a hack saw to those just to close up the case.

The front door / face is held closed with two small, round magnets. They're so weak that the door / face opens if you sneeze next to it! Other than looking pretty, the door / face has absolutely no function and is just in the way. I'll probably rip that off before I get too frustrated with it.

It appears that there isn't a whole lot of cooling going on with this case. I expect temps to get pretty high in there. I'll test it a bit first but, if that does indeed happen I'll modify the window to accept a fairly large fan. In my opinion, that should have been done during the design phase of this case.

Other Thoughts: Overall, a decent enough case just not thought through very well. When you cut corners it shows.

1 out of 5 eggsRaidmax = JUNK

Pros: Decent looking case. Fold down motherboard tray.

Cons: Raidmax? I wonder who does the quality control, because I bought 3 cases from newegg that were by this company the first 2 cases went back. Missing all the hardware that should of been with it. This case is missing the accessory box as well. Called newegg to get one from a different box. Was more or less given the run around. Now im a playing the song and dance to get the hardware that should of been with it in the first place. Never again will I buy a Raidmax case.

Other Thoughts: A company that is more concerned with getting product out the door then quality is not one I want to do business with. And having to do a song and dance for the parts that should of been with the case to begin with, is not one I want to do business with. Newegg could of solved this but more or less told me to XXXX off. My last newegg order just got placed. This to find a new place. As for Raidmax I am waiting to hear from them, phone calls are a dead end, so email. Then as a last resort RMA.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It holds a motherboard just fine.

Cons: * The Door, terrible design, extremely irritating for daily use.
* Dirk Tooth, terrible function, gets in the way if you just want to pop the side panel and check on something. (see folding tray)
* Motherboard tray, terrible design, to get easy access to your motherboard you have to move all of your cables and depending on where you keep your case you might have to unplug it from the wall. Then to close it back up you have to restuff your cables into the very small space behind the motherboard keeping them clear. This is the very definition of something that sounds like a good idea until you try it out first hand.
* Cheap fans, they are loud and all of them died within the first two years.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We're sorry that you were not satisfied with our case.
If there's anything we can do or help, please send a email to rma@raidmax.com for faster respond/service.

5 out of 5 eggsNice looking tower with foldout motherboard

Pros: Nice looking tower with foldout motherboard makes it easy to work on and rebuild. Lots of fans for good air circulation. Also own the Black tower with green lights and they are both very nice looking towers. Love all the lighted fans. Added another fan to the side. It comes with one fan opening without a fan, but very easy to add the extra fan. It just snaps in without any screws. Just order a small led lighted fan to match. Easiest tower for working on, or rebuilding. Both sides fold down. Comes with a little matching tray for spare rails and screws that slides under harddrive cage. Very nice!!!

Cons: Must be careful when closing to make sure all the wires are out of the way and none gets pinched or knocked loose. It is very heavy [not aluminum]. Must be careful with opening handles so they don't break off.

Other Thoughts: Wish they had more towers like these with the fold down sides in aluminum.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Its a beautiful case, it looks even better in person then in the picture and the lighting is awesome. I was worried when I started to put it together that I did not have all the items I needed to put in all my old gear. It was great to find a little tool box underneath that contained all I needed. The case unfolds like magic letting you install everything. Not that I needed them but there is instructions right on the box and a book to. Everything went smooth and it looks super slick. Built this for my step daughter and she loves it. Plenty of air running threw it as well and I love the idea of extra video card support from the other side. Other cases leave you hanging on that , literally. Very sturdy construction and awesome handles to get into the case. I have 3 other computers all in Antec 900s and now I'm thinking i might order three more of these. Was packed excellently and came in perfect shape, not a scratch and as always great service from newegg.

Cons: The front door needs either better or more magnets to keep the door shut. Not that it does not stay shut, but I think it would be better if it clicked shut with more magnetic force, I made sure I took off the magnet film, but it still seems weird. I add a few magnet strips and it works just fine.

1 out of 5 eggsThis case is not special

Pros: You can put stuff in it and it will mostly work.

It is silver and black which my wife wanted.

Toolless drive bays.

Cons: Most of the "features" of this case suck. Fans are loud, the big one screams (I have to replace it).

When you remove the hype around the features of this case what you are really getting is a basic old school atx case with some poorly thought out modifications.

The things that "look cool" on this case serve no purpose, the front door is purely something to hang led's off of, not all of which work. You have to open it to access even a power button.

The "dirk tooth" gpu stabilizer is pointless.

No cable management available under the motherboard.

Other Thoughts: This case is alot of smoke and mirrors, buy something functional.

The front panel(one of the LED's never even worked) and dirk tooth just get in the way. From an aesthetic point of view these are selling points. In reality they are significant design failures.

A square featureless box for a fraction of the price would probably work better. Also the case is made out of similar rough cut aluminum. To the touch it resembles a 20 year old case.

I guess it isn't expensive. I'm going to deal with it, it doesn't NOT work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
We're sorry that some of the LED's did not work.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Fits everything pretty well for a moderate gaming build. Have ASUS Crosshair IV Formula; Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus (with additional fan), CORSAIR HX Series HX750 , EVGA 01G-P3-1561-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti, AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, and G.SKILL Ripjaws Ram. For a daily use, air cooled machine this case has been adequate for many years. This computer was built 04/2011 and everything is still working and running fine after all these years. Computer has never had to be rebuilt or any parts replaces. I give only 3 eggs on this case because when gaming I would get the occasional blue screen of death from the gpu over heating. I removed the side panel to allow better air flow and seemed to "fix" the problem. I just feel the case doesn't really allow enough room for enough air flow to keep everything cool enough under heavy (max settings while gaming) load.

Cons: Not overly great air flow. This isn't a dedicated gaming computer. Heavy/daily work computer, on at 12 hours a day for work. With moderate gaming evenings and weekends. Highly recommend spending the extra $ on a better case if you're sticking with air cooling.

Other Thoughts: Built pretty much the same computer with a Antec Lanboy air Blue Black / Blue ATX Mid Tower Computer Modular Case. Absolutely zero issues with this case with only air cooling. My favorite case for air cooled machines by far... only it's not available anymore... what a bummer.
