The Smilodon case from Raidmax makes assembling a system easier than ever before. It has a modular, tool-less design that makes the initial build and future upgrades easy. Both side panels latch into place for easy access. For the ultimate in convenience the right side panel has the motherboard tray completed with backplate attached. This lets you install the mobo and all your cards, then lock it into the case as a single unit.

Drive installation couldn’t be easier. The external bays all use Clicklock technology, just slide the drive into the bay and lock it into place. The hard drive rack is removable for easy installations and upgrades. All of the necessary drive rails come in a slide out box so you don’t lose them.

Once you have everything assembled you need to make sure it stays cool. Raidmax has loaded the case with plenty of fans. A 120mm fan is mounted on the front of the case to draw cool air in and blow it across the hard drives. Side and rear mounted 80mm fans keep the air moving over all critical components. There is also an 80mm fan with green LEDs that mounts to a support brace that holds your expansion cards steady and blows cool outside air over them.

  • newegg Convenient Installation The Raidmax Smilodon Extreme Black features a fully removable motherboard tray for easy system upgrade without removing your PCIe/AGP/PCI cards. Plus the tool-free design ensures quick assembly of other devices, saving your precious time.
  • newegg Transparent Side Panel Window The Raidmax Smilodon Extreme Black’s fantastic transparent side panel window provides a direct view of the inner system. The 80mm fan’s green LEDs add stylishness and eye-catching fun.

4 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: This case looks very nice, is smaller than other cases I worked with.

Cons: Augh, I couldn't install the Corsair H50, because the case was too small, there doesn't seem to be as many fan spaces as I wish...

Other Thoughts: Get it if you are looking for a meh case, dont' really like it...it just looks nice, a bit hard to work with, hard to access the backplate also, took a bit of thinking.

1 out of 5 eggsTemptress.

Pros: Very attractive, hard drive was easily installed.

Cons: From day one it was giving me trouble. The vertically-opening side panels combined with the short power cables on the fans made it so I could not set down the panel the motherboard was mounted on once the fans were plugged in, resulting in it constantly needing to be propped up. The transparent pane is not attached securely enough to the side panel, which made the fan attached to it constantly vibrate and buzz quite loudly; the measurements I took indicated around 60 dB. The headphone and mic inputs on the front of the case required the use of excessive force when inserting a cable and would not always properly register when it was inserted. In addition, their location, which is near the bottom of the case, proved very inconvenient as I keep my tower near the floor. This resulted in some of my headphone cables not being long enough to reach the jacks while still allowing me a free range of movement; i.e. the headphones tended to be pulled off whenever I would reach for something near the back of the desk or turned my head to the left.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

Pros: Lots of great design features in this case. Drives go in and out with no screws easily and securely. Both sides fold down making it very easy to do what you need to quickly and efficiently. Nice solid construction. Little plastic holder for extra screws slides under harddrive bay. Built quite a few PCs and this is the easiest case I've ever worked with.

Cons: Nothing significant, very heavy if that bothers you. The arm across the middle might not fit if you have a huge video card, but worked just fine with my GTX660.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat case if you're not going overboard on cooling

Pros: I've had this case for well over 3 years and haven't had any real problems with it. It's a decent size case and I didn't have any problems with the quality of anything. The fans all still work and the casing is still in great condition.

Cons: The biggest problem I've had with this case is that when I put in a hyper 212 CPU cooler there isn't enough room for the mobo side of the case to flip open. I also had to take the fan that's on the side of the case and mount it to the outside of the case for it all to fit together. The only other complaints I have are that the door has to be open to use the front headphone, mic and USB jacks and the LEDs on the fans have started going out. But like I said, I've had this case for 3-4 years.

Other Thoughts: This is a great case. I would recommend it to others and the only problems I've had with it stem from me installing the Hyper 212+ CPU cooler which is not a fan that most will install anyways.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Case

Pros: I've owned this case for just over 5 months now with no issues to speak of. Like most other RAIDMAX cases, the door can be an issue and is really a matter of personal preference. The window looks great and the green 80mm fan is a very cool addition. While the green LED is cool, I took the liberty of replacing the black intake and exhaust fans with LED fans and it looks awesome. The motherboard panel is also a great feature of this case. Assembling my current rig was a breeze because of the fold out panel.

Cons: The paint job on the outside of the case isn't perfect and the front door feels very flimsy and cheep. At times the horizontal brace can get in the way.

Other Thoughts: This case is very good over all. In general you can't go wrong with RAIDMAX. There is more than enough space for anything you would want to put in it. The front looks very cool and the air flow is very good. I would definitely recommend this case to any prospective buyer.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat case for the money

Pros: - Solid, sturdy case
- Nice LED's on the door
- Wide opening bay for total access to mobo, fans, HDD and CD/Blu Ray drive slots
- Comes with quite a bit of extra screws and studs as well as mounting brackets

Cons: - Handles are hit and miss, this is my second Smilodon, handles feel sketchy but not broken, on my first machine one handle had just broken off like nothing, no big deal considering it was still easy to open the case
- Side mounted fan wiring is very weak
- Cable management without zip ties is a complete joke

Other Thoughts: I've owned two of these cases, the first for going on five years, and just recently purchasing the green model, the Smilodon is great for people that can't afford a top end Coolermaster, Antec etc., but is definitely worth the money as far as reliability and style goes. Given four stars because of shaky pre-assembly. I removed just about everything to reinstall it correctly, but it was not that big of an issue considering what all I was doing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

Pros: I have owned 3 of these cases. 2 Green and 1 of the Blue cases. Best for the money.

Cons: The last green case I just bought came with a broken fan that I had to replace out of pocket. No big deal.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Case.

Pros: Green LEDs, easy installation (I guess)

Cons: Swing door sucks, flimsy as hell and attached in a way so that I can't remove unless I take apart the side panel. Cheap paint job (outside vs inside). I like my cases to look great from the outside and inside, especially if it has a giant window like this one does. In addition, speaking of the window, that particular side panel requires some HEAVY banging from ME to put it back on in order to lock into place. I literally have to smack the hinge area with my fist to make it click.

Other than that, there's no dedicated motherboard tray, meaning no cable management. All of my cables from my PSU are literally just hanging around my build and it bothers me to hell. Aside from the lack of a motherboard tray, there is also no harddrive bay that fits SSDs.

Other Thoughts: For a case in general, it's not bad, sturdy, looks decent if you like the LEDs, but the problem I have with this case is that it's 90 dollars. A 90 dollar case with no motherboard try or SSD bay. WHAT!?!?!? You must be kidding me. 90 dollar cases are meant for high end builds which almost always guarantee a buyer / builder who cares about cable management and wants an SSD. For a case not to take that into consideration, I seriously can't even believe how horrible this case is for it's price. Aside from the build quality (excluding the door and side panel), there is nothing about this case that's worth 90$ to me. Maybe 60$ tops.

I seriously hated this case SO much that I had to write a giant review...-.-
