4 out of 5 eggsRAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: Simple and good looking mATX case. A lot of options to add fans.

Cons: I hope it comes with at least 2 USB2 ports and more HDD slots.

Yes, this case comes with multiple options to place hard drive. But, I don't like its ideal to have HDD mount directly on the case itself instead of using dedicated HDD slots.

Power LED and HDD LED flash dimly. Too week to see in day time. I prefer solid LED for power on.

Other Thoughts: Honestly speaking, RAIDMAX 102 WBU is very good case. However, comparing to Antec P50 at the same price. I prefer the internal design of P50.

3 out of 5 eggsCozy Fit-- Additional Purchase may be needed

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: Small, simple, extremely modular, and tons of built-in filters (especially where they matter)

Cons: Though the case supports 2 140mm fans on top, the product details neglect to inform the buyer of the clearance between the top of the motherboard standoff plate and the top of the case, leaving the thickness of the fans and radiator an unknown. (please update product information to provide these dimensions to others)

By the same token, there is NO way to mount a 280mm radiator on top without sacrificing the internal 5.25" bay (another note the product information neglects to mention), this will leave users with a need to purchase another means by which to control case fans. (either a PWM hub, software, or some other method.

A little disappointed that the top filter screen is glued on, as well. Makes it very hard to wash off or clean, considering the case's I/O is right next to it. I can already hear the power user in me screaming after discovering dust buildup after days of protein folding...only to find it too cumbersome to unplug the I/O just to restore ventilation to the case.

Other Thoughts: While I would recommend this case to others, I strongly caution the non-enthusiast to do research on internal case dimensions and clearances, if you're even thinking about retrofitting an older build, or buying other components before your case. Limited availability of internal dimensions in key areas left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent mATX case--a little large but also not much compromise!

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: -Nicely designed mATX case. It's a "cube" sure, but still pretty well done. Neat blue plastic trim around top.
-For an mATX case, TONS of room for components/parts:
Drive bays: FIVE 3.5" (or 2.5") locations, one 5.25" bay, plus add'l two 2.5" locations
Room for up to FOUR radiators! THREE 240mm (2x120mm) radiators--can put one up top (and this one can even be 280mm), one up front, and one in the side/separated area. Plus the rear fan mount can also be used for a 120mm rad. Room for fans following the rad positions (top can instead have a 200mm fan but only one 120mm fan can be used up top, if there's an optical drive installed). Bottom two drive mounts can also be used for fans instead of drives.
Up to 12.8" GPU can be installed (if no fans or rad up front, subtract 1" if a fan is there, subtract 2-2.5" if fan + rad is mounted at front).
Has "fifth slot" design so you can use a GPU in the last slot on a mATX board (SLI/Xfire, 2nd card), if that's how your board is configured, anyway.
-Split compartment design--separate [full ATX] PSU side with ample room (two HDD bays are located here, plus one more above, plus two 2.5" can be mounted on this "side" as well). Due to this there's also lots of room for cable management/hiding on that side.
-Dust filters up top, at bottom, and for side ventilation (PSU, side rad/fans)
-Side window standard
-Two USB 3.0 ports (plus one 2.0). Can't tell you how annoying it is some low-end cases have just one USB 3.0 when even if that's the case the connector to the mobo always takes up the whole set of pins (meaning if you have a case with one port, it still takes up both ports on the motherboard!). Very glad this one has two.
-THREE included fans--two LED fans plus one black fan
-Solidly built--for the most part it's not at all cheap feeling; sturdy side panels; frame/chassis doesn't flex. Plus it's not too heavy either!
-Made in four colour schemes.

Cons: -A little on the large side for mATX. It's not huge but it's not all that small either. However given just how much you can put in this case you can't really complain. It does a lot with the space it has, more than a lot of other cases.
-Finish is quite good but the front plastic panel is a little low-rent looking/feeling. Not sure how they could have improved this other than maybe a brushed alum finish but that's asking for a lot. Alternatively they could have given the whole thing a matte finish/coating like what NZXT does. I think this would have made the plastic less noticeable. Top grille is also plastic and not the highest end looking stuff either though it's surprisingly flexible the "fins" of it.
-Top panel fit/tolerance isn't the greatest. Upon close inspection it doesn't really line up 100% or sit completely flat, rather. I'm probably nitpicking now.
-Bottom dust filters are extremely flimsy and are very easy to knock out/fall off. Would have been much better if they used magnets to secure them instead of the very small lip/grooves that secure them. Also the screws from HDDs/fans don't allow the filters to sit very flush.
-Top fan filter is non-removable. You can remove the entire panel but the filter is molded/melted into the panel.
-No front filtering (a little odd given there's filtering everywhere else).
-Fans...nice they included 3 of them. Nice that two are LED fans. However even at 1200RPM they don't really seem to move much air (put your hand in front of them and it's a bit of a joke for any kind of breeze).
-HDD/PWR LEDs...well they're there but just barely! It's cool that the power button has an LED "ring" around it but it's very poorly done. The LEDs are extremely dim. I'm not a fan of super-bright LEDs for these things either, but c'mon you have to be able to see them too. At first I was wondering why I had a cable to plug into the HDD LED connector on the mobo because I couldn't understand where the light was! Turns out it's within the power button but it's so dim, you can barely tell.
-Only two of the colour schemes available at Newegg, and they're the only ones that carry the case in Can/US.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is one amazing mATX case. Other than a few nitpicks (see Cons, above), I'm really quite happy with it/surprised with how good it is. It's certainly not as small a case as I would have ideally liked but you can fit so much in there and its so darn versatile (ODD ability, so many drive/fan options, did I mention up to FOUR rads?), it's hard to complain about that all that much. If there's something you can't fit/have in this case, you probably need some monster E-ATX case or something, because honestly for an mATX case, I don't think I've ever seen one you can put more into. And it's not even that big. There is usually some compromise with an mATX build...not here! My Bitfenix Pandora is slimmer but much taller and you can't really put all that much in that case. My Silverstone SG03 is appreciably smaller (and I've actually modded that to pack in stuff it never was designed to fit, including two rads) but has no hope of the space, airflow, and expandability of this thing. Astonishing how much you can put into the Hyperion, and the ease of putting it all in!

Right now I barely have anything in there, and am even using an i3 w/stock cooler and no dGPU at present time. But I plan on adding in at least one rad/CLC cooler, and a dGPU eventually. For drives I'll probably only ever have an SSD in there, but it's interesting to know I could even turn this thing into a server as it has enough drive space for a small home server/NAS. I currently put one of the LED fans at bottom rear and left one at top rear. It basically just gives some assistance to natural convection flow but as said the fans are pretty weak in terms of flow. Nice looking though. I have a red/black scheme motherboard (Z97MX-Gaming 5), plus some blue sleeved cabling, plus a DeepCool RGB LED kit in there. It makes for a pretty cool combo with the blue fans and the kit set to red.

Speaking of LEDs, as mentioned in Cons, the power and HDD LEDs are pretty weak (both figuratively and actually). I'd really love to mod the little power/led/usb port board for brighter LEDs. They are *that* bad. I have no idea what they were thinking but the LEDs are really, really dim. Like 1990s style LEDs we're talking about here. What might have actually been really cool is if instead of the blue trim/ring around the top, if they made it a clear "light guide" type deal with a nice couple of bright blue LEDs on the ends--now THAT would have been truly cool. Oh well. The power LED as it is, is not terrible, but the HDD LED is almost a joke. I dunno if it's just the one I got or what but I can barely see it.

The fan filter situation is hit and miss, as mentioned. It's good they're there, it's good they have them in three locations, but not so good the bottom ones are really flimsy and not well secured; and it's not so good there's no front filtering (if you plan on using fans there). The front has fairly poor airflow as well since air has to be sucked in from just the slot at the bottom of the front bezel. Not a big deal given there's tons of other airflow available from other areas.

Overall there's really not much more you can ask for in an mATX case. Apart from some different materials/finish for the plastic panels, better LEDs, and better fan filters, there's nothing left to be desired here. And those are mainly just nitpicks, not serious issues of any sort. Solid mATX case, tons of room and not too big, well built and not too heavy, decent looks, and not too expensive either. It's not perfect, but little is. 4/5 Eggs--great!

4 out of 5 eggsbigger than expected, but good trade off

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: Tons of ventilation, interchangeable fans everywhere, and acrylic window is a nice feature, separated power supply makes it look clean

Cons: one of the screws to remove the hard drive holder was tightened too hard and was sent stripped. one of the cable pathways is now blocked because of it

Other Thoughts: I would've preferred something a little more compact, but for the amount of ventilation, I think it's worth the trade.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case for a homebrew NAS/media server

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: Compartmentalized, solid metal construction, nice paint inside, plenty of cable space and HD locations. Small form factor, Power supply air intake on the side of case. Nice looking style and takes up less room than my old case.

Cons: I am not impressed with the front fan options. I tried adding a 200 mm fan and found out it was to thick. (30 mm). nothing bigger than a 140 mm would fit, (26) mm. Also, if more than 2 HDs to be used the less fans locations will be available.
Another issue and from my observation only it is a small one is that the hard drives that sit in the drive cage, do run about 10 degrees hotter than other HD locations. No real air circulation at that corner of that case.

Other Thoughts: Built my first NAS & Media server running OpenMediaVault with Plexmedia server and other plugins. It is going quite well too!

Gigabyte AM1 MB w/ AMD 2.5Ghz kabrini quad core with integrated video
8 GB RAM
(1) 2.5" 120GB HD
(4) 1TB HDs-RAID 10
(2) Realtech Gigbit Nics -Teamed
(1) 200MM fan on top as intake
(2) Artic F12 120mm Fans in front -intake
(1) Artic F12 120mm fan back - exhaust
(1) EGA 500 Watt power supply

Overall it is a great case for building easy to work if you plan ahead your moves. I've had Raidmax power supplies before and found out they were pretty reliable. But I didn't know they made a great little case. Definitely could see using this case for another build of some type...

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Case / Easy Build

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: I replaced my ten year old (but still amazing) Coolermaster case due to complaints from my wife on its exterior aesthetics. I also badly needed more options for cooling and recently purchased a Micro-ATX mobo and wanted something that maximized space.

The case is a few inches wider than my old case, but its depth is considerably reduced. I particularly like the fact that you can hide most of your cables through use of a divider which houses your drives and your power supply. The case comes with zip ties to keep your build clean. Overall, Raidmax did a fantastic job of maintaining aesthetic appeal and providing great use of space in the case.

There isn't much I can say that hasn't been mentioned in other reviews of the case. Great quality at a great value with TONS of options for fan placement.

Cons: The viewing window seems to be fairly flimsy. I don't plan on moving my case around a lot, so I'm not concerned with this, but I've seen other complains about scratching.

The LED fans were installed on the top of the case. If you plan to have a CD/DVD drive, you will not be able to keep those fans at the top, at least not the front one. I did not remove an egg for this because I just put the fans along the front portion of the case. This actually allows for more efficient airflow, anyway.

Other Thoughts: I have not installed a radiator into the case yet. The only way I would remove an egg from my review is if I have problems installing a water cooling system.

Edit: 01/09/16 - I just can't say enough about how much I enjoy this case. I do want to update my review to say that I can now confirm that the viewing window is terrible. I really wish they had an option for a solid side panel, or a metal screen for those who want the lighting to be visible. Of course, I knew what I was getting and any scratches on the window are not noticeable. To address negative reviews on issues with screwing in fans, I haven't had a problem with this. Still no cooling system added, but there are several options for installing it. Overall, a satisfied customer and I will be purchasing from Raidmax in the future.

4 out of 5 eggsCube is Awesome

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: Love the cube design so I can hide my lack of cable management skills in the back compartment. I just shoved it all in there and closed the side panel. The build looks clean through the window.
This build is for my sister and her kids, and I bought this solely because of the PSU air intake being on the side. I don't know if she will have it on the carpet or a dusty desktop, but I'm assured the PSU will get clean, filtered air from the side.
It is very flexible for whatever type of build you are doing.
Clean, unique, aesthetic looks great.
Separate baggies for included hardware was a nice touch.

Cons: No front air intake filters (minus 3/4 egg). My build is a simple group of air cooled parts. I have two 120 fans on the front that I wish had filters.
Can use either two 3.5 inch drives in the drive cage, OR use the lower cable routing pass through, but not both. Have to pick only one. I picked the drives in the cage - would have been nice to be able to use both. (minus 1/4 egg)

Other Thoughts: I put in an optical drive, so that means taking out the front top 120 LED fan that is included. I turned the other top fan over to blow air in. I added a fan for a total of four x 120: two on the front blowing in and one on the top blowing in and the one on the back exhausting out. Hopefully I've got a nice positive pressure airflow. I just need to add filters on the front intake fans for a low dust positive pressure build.
I caught this on a sale. I would buy it again at the sale price.

5 out of 5 eggsMy new favorite micro case??

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: Lots of Drive mounting places and fan slots.

Total of 8 places to mount drives, up to 5 - 3.5 in and 3 - 2.5 in or any mix.

9 FANS!! but not if you're using all your drives. With all fan slots filled your limited to 2 - 3.5 in drives and 1 - 2.5

Cons: No front dust filter.

Other Thoughts: Really great case for the money. Also everything is the case screws in so there's no rivets stopping you from taking it apart.

There's intake filters all around the case except for the front.. oh well I guess.

Case was a breeze to build in, its just big enough if you have larger hands it's easy to work in. Yet still small enough it would fit about anywhere.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: r9 390x devil hybrid
i5-6600 with corsair h50
seasonic modular 750w +gold
1 hdd
2 ssd
2x120mm fans
1x140mm fan
A lot of fan options and set up to your own liking it is very 120mm fan oriented DUH ITS A SMALLER FORM factor THEN MID TOWERS!! people just baffle me with negative reviews.... they really don't do their research. im running a r9 390x devil hybrid and i5-6600 with corsair h50 cooler. Don't listen to negative reviews for they don't know how to math and read. theres is alot of cable management space.

Cons: My one and only con is that top right side exhaust or intake which ever you choose, that bracket has a lip. so if you plan to mount a 120mm rad or some fan(s) to it its gonna be angled by like 4 degrees or so.

Other Thoughts: If you plan on going a smaller form factor like this, be prepared. Rear and front is not dust filtered so i just bought some.

2 out of 5 eggsCould be alot better

This review is from: RAIDMAX Hyperion MATX-102WBU Black/Blue Aluminum / Plastic / Steel Micro ATX Computer Case

Pros: The looks of the case and the fact that using a ITX or Mini micro ATX board you should be ok unless you use a graphics card.

Cons: the whole case is a con. the size of the motherboard tray is a joke for some MATX boards (like Mine) the fact that I have tried 4 different 200mm fans in the front non fit. If you are using a 240 Rad this is not the case for you. the lack of airflow near graphics cards has me to the point I might just return this piece of junk case. my GPU in my NZXT case (same card as using now) never hit 65 degrees let alone 80 like it has in this case

Other Thoughts: this case has not good air flow it has major dead pockets inside this cube using this case forget water cooling and use washers when putting fans in the front and top normal fan screws will pop right thru the larger holes..
