The ML02 from Silverstone is the next evolution in MoDT chassis design. It will support MoDT Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX and DTX motherboards. This super slim chassis is only 82mm tall so it takes up minimal space in your entertainment center. It's wrapped in aluminum bands that lift the bottom off the shelf to increase airflow and cooling.
The front panel has an LCD panel for status updates, a receiver for the remote control and a door that hides the slim optical drive bay, 52-in-1 card reader, USB, FireWire and Audio ports.
Inside there is one internal bay for a hard drive. The case comes with 2 riser cards 1 each for PCI and PCIe x16. A 50mm rear exhaust fan pulls air across all the components and keeps things cool, and only puts out 19dBa.

Looks sexy, runs hot, understand case limits before you buy
- Pros: No doubt about it, this is a very sexy-looking case. With proper component selection, it's possible to build a very quiet, low-power HTPC.
- Cons: Power supply can only feed 120W. Case is only slightly taller than 1U, so a low-profile (<38 mm heat sink + fan)CPU cooler is mandatory. Only 1 single-width half-length slot available. Risers to expansion cards suffer intermittent connectivity due to thermal expansion. Cable management difficult due to limited space available. Front panel audio jacks are mislabeled (said to be corrected in rev 2). Left rear side 50mm fan position unusable; fan interferes with hard drive mounts. 52-in-1 card reader died after 4 months. (SilverStone replaced it through RMA, but gave me incorrect RMA number, so tracking down the RMA shipment was difficult.) The factory 50mm case fan in the left rear corner is extremely loud at full speed. Finally, the blue power/hard drive LEDs are too bright, and argue against installing the case in a bedroom.
- Other Thoughts: The most difficult factor in component selection is finding 50mm fans that are quiet but move sufficient air for good case cooling. The 120 W DC/DC power supply needs a 50mm fan at the right front side position. I ended up using 2x Sunon KDE1205PHV2 50x15mm fans with Zalman RC100 5V fan resistor cables. One fan went in the right front side position, and the other replaced the factory case fan at the left rear. These spin at 3000-3500 rpm.
The other annoyance factor is the riser intermittent connectivity issue. Occasionally, thermal cycling will confuse my motherboard's understanding of the PCI/PCIe clock divider status, and it will boot with the CPU frequency at a safe multiplier. When this happens, I'll have to clear the CMOS, and reset my BIOS settings to get the board to boot normally again.
Awesome
- Pros: Looks great, functions exactly as designed.
- Cons: The included ATX cable is too long, stuffing the extra cabling "anywhere it fits" ends up taking up the space where memory should go. No SATA 7pin power connector, the standard power connector for slimline optical SATA devices (such as a Sony Optiarc BluRay player, for example). The metal brackets that lift the case up to provide for better air flow lift the device up - but the ventilation for the CPU is through the top, not the bottom. You need to make your own stand to stack devices on top of the case without obstructing air flow.
- Other Thoughts: N/A
