5 out of 5 eggsFix for random static on PCM audio

Pros: Excellent case for HTPC. It has been going strong for about 1 1/2 years now. I have it mounted inside a well ventilated cabinet.

Cons: An extra led for the hard drive would be nice.

Other Thoughts: I fought random static noise on PCM stereo audio for months. 5.1 audio was perfect. I removed the three fan screens and the PCM stereo audio noise has not reoccurred. Is it possible that the plastic fan screens produced air with a static charge that affected some component on my Asrock H67M motherboard? I'm not sure but am very happy that it no longer exists.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great case for an HTPC. fits perfectly in my cabinet. runs cool and quiet. The blue LED doesn't bother me as its behind dark tinted glass.

Cons: Wish I could use it as a tower instead of a desktop. Might have to engineer something so I can use it that way.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice for HTPC

Pros: This case works great for my HTPC. It is a little larger than I anticipated but that is really my fault for not paying close enough attention. My second HTPC case will be the same model but the shorter version. The case is a bit cramped for space, but you come to expect that from a micro-ATX case. Since it has three fans in the case the manufacturer was smart enough to include a molex to 3 pin fan power cable since most micro-ATX board don't have enough fan power connectors built in.

Cons: The mounting of the HDD is a bit awkward and difficult to get to.

5 out of 5 eggsI love this case

Pros: Fans, Low noise, front port usb and audio, ease of use, fits in stereo cabinet

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I bought this case to make a media center pc... I didn't want anything loud because it'd be right with my entertainment system. After having it over a year I opened it up to install new usb 3.0 front panel daughter card and was amazed there was no dust. the fans are whisper quiet and they have a microscreen that did a great job of keeping it clean. all the power connectors I need are there.... easy to assemble.. I have had a great experience with silverstone.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat quiet HTPC case

Pros: Three very quiet fans, solid build, rubber grommets, looks good in my cabinet.

Cons: No thumb screws or quick releases, no room for aftermarket CPU fan, no USB 3 ports

Other Thoughts: In my experience HTPC cases are a little behind enthusiast cases, and they often lack convenience features like thumb screws and quick release mounts. That is true of this case. This case looks great and feels solid. I am particularly impressed by how quiet the fans are. Silverstone also added rubber grommets to reduce vibration between metal parts. The optical drive mounts over the CPU, so there is no room for an aftermarket CPU fan unless you omit the optical drive and the mounting bracket. That could easily be done. Silverstone focused on what was important leaving room for minor improvements. All in all I am very happy with this case, and I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 eggsNo USB 3.0

Pros: great case for HTPC

Cons: No USB 3.0 - verified!! Uninformed reply from manufacturer is misleading.

Other Thoughts: Update to my last review. I have been in contact with Silverstone and the reply to Crispux was a flat out lie. This case does not come with USB 3.0 on the front panel and never will. The model number will be changed to GD05B-USB3.0 and that case will be priced higher and will come with 3.0 for the front panel. Of course Silverstone is happy to now take more of my money so I can swap out the 2.0 to 3.0 on my own, which will take 30 second and is two screws, but won't offer to make things right after I based my purchasing decision on the reply from them to Crispux's post below...Lame!...

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the incorrect comments made in the previous reply. For those that are interested in obtaining USB 3.0 front I/O ports, please contact our US office directly at the following:

4 out of 5 eggsNo USB 3.0?

Pros: Great case, lots of space for my HTPC build. ATX PSU and Itx board fit fine. 3 quiet fans move plenty of air. 'Brushed metal' finish matches the LG Black Blu-ray Burner SATA WH14NS40 exactly, which was a fun surprise.

Cons: Vibration mounts for HD, but DVD/BD drive connects directly to metal chassis, seems like the drive should have rubber mounts as well. DOES NOT, I repeat DOES NOT come with 19 pin front panel USB 3.0 header/connector as stated by manufacturer. After reading the response on 5/18 to Crispux3 from Silverstone I placed my order for the case and my Biostar TH61. I was very sad to see that the usb header is the standard 2.0 version not the 19 pin 3.0 that it supposedly had. I do not look forward to trying to connect my 3.0 devices to the back of the mobo in my a/v cabinet, especially when it takes two screws to swap out the front panel USB / HD LED interface and put the 3.0 one on...*annoyed*

Other Thoughts: Nice case, no USB 3.0 on the front panel; unless I got a run of the last 2.0 cases which sucks really bad.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC case, but not perfect

Pros: For an HTPC case, fairly roomy. Easy to take apart and install components. Frustration is low with this case. Comes with 3, nice 120mm golf-ball dimpled fans that run quietly and has dust filters to keep dust off internal components. Solid build. Should fit nicely into most TV cabinets/entertainment centers both on dimensions and looks. Brushed aluminum front gives it a nice look.

Cons: Although came with 3 system fans, only comes with one system fan header so that all three can't be controlled by your motherboard. Has room for a couple of rear 80mm outake fans, but must be purchased separately. Doesn't come with PC speaker connectors, but perhaps this is a motherboard or other peripheral issue. Front panel is not USB 3.0 out of the box, but another part can be purchased separately. This isn't a huge deal though as I wouldn't say that USB 3.0 is exactly mainstream yet. For my modular power supply, I didn't want to install it upside down because it is fanless, and I had to remove the left 120mm fan to fit the powersupply in, and then had to reattach it. Spacing can be a bit tight, and the cable tie downs it came with are worthless. Use mini cable ties instead.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I very nice case that I would easily and highly recommend to a friend, but because of a lack of system fan headers, no 80mm fans, and having to purchase USB 3.0 parts separately, along with having to remove a fan to install the powersupply unless I was going to do it upside down, the review comes in at 4 eggs, not 5. But if it makes anyone feel anybetter, it's more like a 4.5 and I would round up and not down.

4 out of 5 eggsGood chassis, ugly logo

Pros: Had this for over a year now, it's a solid chassis that continues to serve its purpose. Wife wanted the desktop-style profile for her system, so we built it with this.

Cons: Very little room to work inside. We've got one optical drive, a 3.5" HDD, a 2.5" HDD and a two-slot-wide video card, and after all the associated cabling, this thing is packed tight. Case is often warm to the touch, especially when she's gaming.

An inordinate amount of cables must be run over the top of the video card, making for a mess right under the top of the case.

I question the wisdom of putting a vent on top, since it's a given that it will be covered by the monitor. Perhaps not so surprising that it's hot inside, despite the multiple fans on both sides and the back.

Other Thoughts: The SilverStone logo is ugly. SilverStone makes good stuff, but I won't personally use anything of theirs that's user-facing because of the logo (chassis, drive inserts, accessories, etc.). *Maybe* a power supply some day since it's hidden inside.

Make quality products -- which SilverStone does -- and you don't need to scar their visual appeal with a cheap UV-inked white logo on the front. SilverStone is by far not alone in this, but the poor contrast of their logo on a dark chassis is particularly bad.
