SilverStone Raven Series Computer Case - RV03B-W - Matte Black Steel and Plastic - ATX - Full Tower

The Raven team's continued push to redefine and perfect the enthusiast tower chassis has resulted in yet another benchmark: the Raven RV03. With world-class cooling performance retained from the previous Raven chassis models in the included 180mm Air Penetrator fans, a rethinking of the interior layout enabled dramatic reduction in overall depth of the chassis (as compared to Raven RV02) while still matching Raven RV01's ability to accommodate extended ATX motherboards and graphics cards longer than 13in. Cable management was also improved with a new 5cm thick hard drive compartment to allow nearly all cables to be connected behind the motherboard tray with ease. An unconventional power supply compartment located in the lower front part of the chassis further add to facilitate cable routing so anyone can assemble a pristine looking system with maximum airflow efficiency.

Complementing the finely-tuned and engineered interior, RV03's Champagne-colored trimmings adorn an exterior with aggressive lines against a reserved profile. The standout styling also fully utilizes the chassis's powerful cooling ability by a set of smartly designed, dual-purpose front bezels that keep the RV03 looking sharp and uniform whether the user is setting up for maximum air cooling or for a silent build.

As a trend-setter and a computer chassis engineering showcase, the Raven RV03 has few equals. However, its advanced features are equally accessible, so anyone from experienced enthusiasts to novice users will find it easy to appreciate and utilize, making RV03 the most appealing Raven chassis yet!

  • Revolutionary 90-degree motherboard mounting, inherited from the Raven RV01
  • Includes two Air Penetrator 180mm fans for superb performance and quietness
  • Supports up to seven 120mm fans for exceptional cooling flexibility
  • Motherboard back plate opening behind CPU area for quick cooler assembly
  • Supports Extended ATX motherboard
  • Supports eight expansion slots and graphics cards of any length
  • Mandatory cable managing design for clean looking system on every build

3 out of 5 eggsSpacious Case - Fan troubles

Pros: Huge case, nice design for the motherboard to allow ease of access from the top. Ran cool until issue below.

Cons: The 2 main overhead Fans died about a month of usage. I read this in previous reviews but chalked it up to a random occurrence. Seems to be a quality issue with the fans. If you're planning on gaming normally with this case and don't have any other cooling inside I'd suggest you pick something else or invest in additional fans.

Other Thoughts: Really dig the design. The black and gold is a nice touch and was relatively easy to move my old pc guts into this new case. Just wish the fans didn't die out so quick, now I have to look into some alternatives to make sure I don't overheat my rig.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. Since this case comes with a 1 year warranty, we can help you replace the defective fans directly so please contact us if you haven't already.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat but not Perfect

Pros: Looks great and the case itself is very flexible in terms of what you can do and what you can put inside it. The motherboard rotation is awesome and really brings out the hardware and makes it look great. The space on the side opposite of the motherboard is huge and awesome, I was able to tame a non modular power supply with relative ease. Overall the case is simply fantastic.

Cons: Unfortunately there are some minor hickups here. First off one of the bolts on the side window isn't pushed in all the way so the window has flex there. Plus the style of the pins bolted on the side window as it is looks pretty cheap and unappealing. The place on the bottom where you plug in the power cable to the power supply is the most awkward thing ever and I see why its like this but honestly I wish there was some other way. With the way the hard drives are mounted in the back you have to twist around a lot of cables to get them to the hard drives. Also the distance from the motherboard sata ports to the hard drives is pretty big so keep that in mind. I ran into trouble getting some 90 degree sata cables to even go. Lastly I wanted to use the fan mounts at the front of the case to mount a radiator but there was clearance issues with my motherboard that prevented me from doing that. I ended up taking out everything in the front and simply using industrial grade velcro which was pretty easy and inexpensive.

Other Thoughts: As a side note, I can't honestly recommend this case. For the price you can get something better with less hassles than this. The reason though I gave it 4 stars is because in the end everything works and its just awesome for ME, but not necessarily you. Something else works better for less, an Enthoo Luxe, a Thermaltake case, but, this case is great. Especially if you really want a 90 degree rotation, which is a big reason i got this case.

4 out of 5 eggsWorthy Product with a few Missteps

Pros: * Excellent Airflow
* Quiet Operation
* Fan mount behind CPU
* Good cable routing if using long cables
* Best manual EVER

Cons: * Overall poor build quality
* Design features lacking or poorly executed (see below)
* Not so good watercooling support
* Wasteful front USB ports

Other Thoughts: This case has some great things going for it. It's mostly quiet and looks nice, with excellent airflow. I do not regret building in it. The case manual in particular is very good, and even first time builders will have a joy of a time filling this case with hardware.

However, there are some obvious and serious missteps. First of all, watercoolers will be disappointed. There is not much room for either a pump or reservoir, although cable management is excellent. The fan mount at the back of the case is positioned in such a way that should you want to use it, you need to use an mATX board, a smaller fan, or shift the mount about 30 mm toward the sidepanel. Silverstone easily could have prevented this by properly placing this mount, or two even, closer to the window. Furthermore, the front bay covers look cheap and plastic-y, which sadly matches the top cover. I really wish the front covers were the usual Siverstone aluminum, and the top cover held rad-mounts, or was hinged in some way, or anything more utilitarian than what is available. Finally, the front USB ports are merely pass-throughs for the "back" ports on the motherboard. Headers really would have been better here, although given the 90 degree rotation, I understand Silverstone's choice here.

All in all, this is a great case, but would have been better if 30 dollars more for better quality. Although the RV-03 is a very good case, it is not the compelling alternative to the FT-02, or even the RV-02, that the price point demands, or this Silverstone fanboy expects.

4 out of 5 eggsGood case

Pros: its a good case, lots of space, good design, good airflow and easy access usb 3.0,

Cons: After about 4 months of owning this case the 2 fans or the fan switches started to malfunction, they will only stay on a low setting, switching it to high only turns the rpm up a VERY tiny bit and very slowly and an uneven acceleration (they used to jump up in rpm's in a second) Cannot fit H80i (exhaust fan) without grinding the handle off the top of the side panel, but cant notice that with the top piece on it so thats fine.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Case

Pros: Air flow, rear handle, intake filters, metal frame, incredible.

Cons: I don't like the "snap" locks for the bays. I actually broke one when I was first looking at it (tried to pull it all the way up to 90 degrees).

It isn't as long as the Raven 2 was, so you can run out of space if your mobo is too long. But it is taller, allowing me to fit both my graphics cards in it.

The PSU bay was... Not planned out as well as it could be. Had the stretch the interior cable to its max length, but it works.

Other Thoughts: I "would" buy it again. In fact I have, 3 more times. I've replaced it with another Raven 3 when it broke (Not a reflection of the case's durability). And I've built two other machines using Raven 3s. I don't know if I will ever buy any other case as long as the mobo will fit, and these are still being made.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not fit Intel server board

Pros: Sleek case, lots of room. I just *looks* great. Two large fans on the bottom and another fan on the top. The power supply fits snugly on the bottom front. Side covers come off easily - no tools required. The mother board physically fit into the case no problem (but see cons below!). The hard drives fit on an enclosure with rubber grommet baffles. All in all a killer case.

Cons: Supposed to fit an SSI CEB motherboard. In fact, 'CEB' is imprinted on the case. My Intel server motherboard lined up perfectly with the imprint and fit in the case perfectly. Just one problem - only the top left four screws fit. The three along the bottom and also along the right side did not line up with screw holes in the case. I called the manufacturer and provided them with several pictures highlighting the problem areas. The fellow I spoke with did not sound very knowledgeable. No response after my initial contact. Thank goodness for New Egg's return policy.

Other Thoughts: Had the case been able to mount my motherboard I would have given 5/5. But not having the screw holes in the correct place combined with lack of response from customer service meant unfortunately I had to give just one star.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone and we apologize for your experience. If possible, can you please contact us again and let us know which motherboard model you used? Our contact information is as follow:

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great case. Love the 90 degree rotation on the MoBoard. Added two additional 120 MM fans and have great air flow. Very solid build. Like the isolators on the hard drive mounting to keep things quiet. Very quiet with the 180 MM case fans. I would build with the case again.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsunder rated

Pros: Space, design, good fans, price isn't bad for what you get.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: Yes, the fans do get pretty loud at max settings, but I don't see why anyone would need them set at max. Low settings are very quiet and cool extremely effectively.

My gtx 670 maxes at 56 under load, Idles are 25 and the fans on the gpu never go past 20%.
My Asrock OC Formula motherboard hovers between 29 - 39 degree area.
Finally my 2700k clocked at 5.0ghz idles high 30 and maxes in the 60 degree range, but I blame that on my current heatsink and fan setup.

Bottom line, it keeps everything within my case plenty cool at low settings, and at those settings the noise is very tolerable and not a remote issue. It creates an audible, but light hum.

The case itself is very sturdy and easy to work with. I take the top cover off a lot and haven't had any issues. It's very easy to remove and well made. It does make a loud snapping sound when putting it back on, maybe that's what worries people, but it's fine.

Subjective, but I also think it looks good. I prefer a more sleek case, this isn't it but it doesn't look bad either.

Pros: Very good case. Lots of fan support and lots of airflow. Allows for very good wire management.

Cons: Took forever to install fans in all the applicable spots. Front filters could've been made easier to clean.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case.

Pros: This case looks great. The stripes that everyone are complaining about are not gold. I actually agree with the manufacturer that they are Champagne. For the people complaining about the color, why did you buy something that you didn't like?

I really like the layout also. The two 180 mm fans work well and its nice that they each have a hi and lo switch. I don't really know if each one needs its own switch though, I always have them both set to the same speed.

I also like that the I/O is on top of the case instead of the back. Even though I have to take off the top part, its still way easier than crawling on the floor and pulling the computer away from the wall.

It only has 2 USB ports in the front, but since the I/O is on top you can still easily plug things in there if the cord is long enough.

Lastly, I have not broken anything on it yet. I don't know what happened with the reviewers that said the top part broke, but I have yet to damage anything.

Cons: For some reason this case took me a really long time to install everything. I don't know why, maybe because of the non-standard design.

You will need some longer SATA cables because of the motherboard position.

The cable to plug in the PSU is short unless you reach up underneath it and undo a twist tie. This was not mentioned in the manual, but I already knew about it from reading other reviews.

Other Thoughts: I got this case at my local F.r.y.s. for $80. I'm so happy with it.

I came across this case when my wife pointed it out. I was looking at the HAF and Storm cases when she said she liked the Raven the best, based purely on looks. I gave it a look and read some reviews. Turns out she picked a great case.

About a week later we went back to get some other things and check it out again. For some reason F.r.y.s. cut the price in half. They had one in stock and now i own it. It was a good day.
