SilverStone Temjin Series steel body MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case

In 2006, SilverStone launched the Temjin TJ08, an impressive micro-ATX tower case with then unheard of dual 120mm fan configuration. It helped pioneered the idea of big tower cooling performance in small packages. Five years later, improved technology and design has enabled SilverStone engineers to create another pioneering small tower case in the TJ08 Evolution (TJ08-E). To improve cooling performance, a class leading "Air Penetrator" 180mm fan was installed behind the front panel to create virtual airflow tunnel with positive air pressure, which also improves quietness and dust prevention.

Standard enthusiast features retained or improved include removable motherboard tray and top panel, CPU back plate cutout, all black painted interior, removable filters for all intake vents, and beautifully finished aluminum front panel. Features unique to the TJ08-E are its ability to accommodate long cables from high-end power supply and storage room for one 2.5" hard drive and up to five 3.5" hard drives. If you are looking for a classic, cleanly styled premium micro-ATX tower with the latest chassis construction technology to house top-of-the-line components, the TJ08-E is it.

3 out of 5 eggsQuality for the most part

Pros: Beautiful tower if you want a practical subdued look. Temps stay cool as stated. Was looking for a tower which would save me some space; this fits the job.

Cons: Fit is somewhat questionable(issue with the side panels specifically). The thumbscrews for the side panels are starting to strip. Bothers me since as I was originally planning on sticking to this case. Now considering an upgrade sometime down the road. I don't plan to open the case too often, but this might be of bigger concern for others who change parts frequently.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case for single GPU

Pros: This is a great single GPU gaming case. From my experience it has been virtually silent as long as you keep the front filter clean and run the fan on low. I've used a GTX 780 Ti and a GTX 980, and they both have ran very cool at their OOB settings. Likewise I am running a 4770K with the stock cooler, and it rarely tops 65 C. I've run a mild OC, but can't really tell any difference gaming at 1080p, so it is running stock clocks for now.

Cons: None, when used for the right purpose.

Other Thoughts: Plenty of room for long video cards and large CPU coolers. Very good build quality. I upgrade components quite often, and open the case very often. Some cases get sloppy after a short time, but this one is still just as tight as when I bought it a year ago.

2 out of 5 eggsdead LED after 31 days

Pros: 1) Nice front finish, looks sharp
2) Small
3) some what good layout
4) super quiet front fan

Cons: 1) low quality manufacturing, coming from Lian-Li case this was shocking

2) there is a good reason that on cases with motherboard mounted upside down the power supply is on the bottom - some cables might be short. I had to buy a 8" extension for the 8 pin aux power connector

3) After 31 days the power LED died. I thought LED light last forever?

4) Support does not answer the phone and mail box is full - support works as good as the their LEDs

5 out of 5 eggsPacked With Features

Pros: Dust Screens, one on the 180mm case fan and one above the opening for the power supply.

Isolated power supply ventilation: standard power supplies will mount upside down at the top of the case allowing the power supply fan to pull in fresh air from the top of the case and exhaust hot air through the back of the power supply at the back of the case.

Both sides of the case are removable, this is especially handy because the case has space behind the mother board backplate to allow wires to be ran. Hiding wires behind the mother board helps with airflow in the case.

Plenty of mounting hardware is included.

Cons: At the top/middle of the motherboard backplate there is a narrow small hole, I was able to squeeze 3 USB 2.0 header plugs through this hole and connect them to the motherboard. This was a painstaking process as the plugs had to be fed in one at a time and a lot of strain is placed on the cables after they are in place. If this hole were about twice as large it would be very handy for those of us who want to run USB or sound headers to the motherboard. Since motherboards usually have some sort of header or SATA port(s) at the bottom of the board, many PC builders would be able to take advantage of a slightly larger hole (that's what she said).

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent case. I really can't describe it without venturing into superlatives. I should also point out that my praise is relative to the price point this case comes at, for $100 this case is top notch.

This case is a tiny bit wider than most micro atx, mid atx, and even some standard ATX cases. The reason for this is to allow for space behind the motherboard header so you may run wires. Running the wires behind the motherboard header will allow for much better airflow inside the case; cool air gets to the graphics card and CPU radiator very easily. Air is also forced directly across the hard drives keeping them nice and cool.

I installed an AMD 8370 with an Antec Kühler H20 620 in the 120mm slot with no problem. With all 8 cores running 100% at 4.5ghz during the Windows Experience test (no prime 95) I hit 50c and level out there. The Kühler H20 620 is pushing air out of my case (rather than drawing fresh air across the radiator) and I haven't had any heat issues inside the case. I'm also running a 480 GTX from Nvidia with a slight overclock (800/2000/1600), still no heat issues.

The 180mm case fan provides plenty of air, I'm able to run World of Tanks on max settings and the low setting for the 180mm fan is just fine. Game temps are in the mid 40's for the processor (only using 2 cores) and around 90 for the 480 GTX.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent mini-tower case

Pros: Nice quiet 180mm fan with good airflow. Good cable routing space behind motherboard. Lots of room for micro ATX build, and very clear manual complete with specific measurement limits. Space for one 2 1/2" SSD at bottom plus removable rack with padded edges for four hard drives. Room at top for two Blu-Ray or DVD drives. Side panels firmer than the "cheap" cases, made with enameled black steel. No sharp edges! All important spacings were good, the motherboard back panel snapped in to the correct position on the first try.

Cons: Many different black on black screw types, requires concentration for assembly. Thread depth is on the short side, may limit number of rebuilds unless care is taken. Missing one mounting pin for a Gigabyte Z97M-D3H, but was easy to drill and tap a fix. No "snap in" parts used, everything is screws. Blu-Ray drive and power supply are back to back, may be a tight fit for supplies > 600 watts.

Other Thoughts: Arrived in perfect condition, no scratches, all cables and supplies in order. Expect a little more assembly effort due to many screw types and a few tight spaces (It is a "mini" case after all!)

3 out of 5 eggsMB tray standoffs incorrectly tapped

Pros: I like the rubber vibration insulated 3.5 inch HDD holder.

Good use of space.

Cons: The motherboard tray standoffs are tapped in 2 different thread sizes. It took me a while to figure out why my standoff screws were falling out of some of the MB tray standoffs. About half of the standoffs were tapped with standard MB threads, and half were tapped with HDD threads! I guess the employee on the line set down their tap in the middle of tapping the MB tray, and then picked up the wrong tap when they resumed tapping the MB tray.

After fixing the MB to its tray, it was difficult to push the tray back into correct position in the case.

I felt the case lacked the precision of the Lian Li cases I am accustomed building.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if I would buy this case again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Compact, lightweight, quiet. It's like a mini tower, but I can put 2 full size nVidia Gforce 780ti's inside it and still have room for about 5 HD's, cdrom and fan controller. Google it an read some reviews. I couldn't ask for much for in a compact designed case. It's design stays very cool, air pushes in through the front, sucked out the back an top by other fans. ****Make sure you order an extra Silverstone Air Penetrator 120mm fan case.

Cons: I'm unable to control fan speed with my motherboard setup, but that can easily be remedied with a fan speed controller and very easily set it up in the lower front if you wanted to. I like how it stays super quiet until I start maxing out my gforce 780ti.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Case, Minor Problems

Pros: Lightweight case, convenient cable routing pathways, open area on the motherboard tray for easy aftermarket CPU cooler bracket installation, the front fan is inaudible (to me) on low setting yet moves a respectable volume of air, the dust filter works well and is easy enough to remove for cleaning.

Cons: Due to its lightweight construction, the case panels (which basically all need to be removed in order to install the PC components) flex a lot and during reassembly I found a few screw holes that didn't line up very well with their corresponding thread holes in the case body. Not a huge deal, but it meant threading some of the screws in at a slight angle which is not ideal and shortens the lifespan of the threads. Ultimately this means that the case can only be taken apart so many times before some of the threads strip out.

One of the front panel USB 3.0 ports has been suspect from day one but things that I plugged into it did work 98% of the time so I didn't spend much time troubleshooting it. Now (about a year later) it suddenly doesn't really work at all. The other port is just fine. I've yet to find out if Silverstone will sell me a replacement front panel board.

Other Thoughts: It's a respectable case. I'd buy another.

5 out of 5 eggsKeep Cool & Stay Positive

Pros: Positive airflow that is. Imagine two straws. One thick and one thin. If you blow an equal amount of air through each one, the thinner, more restricted one will have higher pressure inside of it. That is the exact reason why this case is better than almost any other out there. One fan pushing air resulting in positive air flow. And 100% of that air, is filtered so your components stay clean. Also, that one fan is huge, 180mm. Which means it doesn't get loud from blade chop and can push large amounts of air, at a low RPM

Cons: Building a system in this case is going to take some extra time. There are many screws, half of which you don't need. Removable cables on your PSU is pretty much a must. Short replacements are also are nice. The cable from a CD ROM will smash against the PSU cables. The HDD Rack will only block your air flow so don't use it. Place packing tape across the bottom of the case to seal the air flow. Don't ad any exhaust fan as it will reduce the positive pressure and suck up dust.

Other Thoughts: My system i5-2500k OC'd turbo @ 4.2Ghz
Prolimotech Megahalems with two high end 120mm 2000rpm PWM fans in a push/pull configuration
Asus Gen Z IV motherboard
Evga GTX 780 ACX (doesn't vent out the back)
Max Temps
CPU High Temps 50 cel
Northbridge 55 cel
GPU 70 cel
That's full on gaming for hours and hours
I'd put this up against any of those prefabbed, closed loop water system any day. You can have a thousand fans in your case, but if it's a pole barn the size of a stadium with out any internal pressure. All you have is a really big noise maker with components sitting in some corner burning up in a coat of dust.
