When the first Kublai series chassis was introduced in 2007, it had innovative storage design that was ahead of its time. For the Kublai KL04, SilverStone engineers again looked to raise the bar with a design that can accommodate four 5.25” drive bays, nine 3.5” hard drives, and up to six 2.5” SSDs. This astonishing amount of storage capacity for a mid-tower chassis is unprecedented and comes with no compromise to compatibility. Expansion cards or graphics cards up to 17 inches long can be installed without the need to remove hard drive cage and even with all hard drive bays filled, cards up to 12.8 inches can still be used. To cope with densely packed hard drive bays, repeated thermal tests and revisions were made to come up with an airflow layout that is capable of handling all hard drives installed without negatively affecting the rest of the system. The right front positioning of the intake fans also helps to divert noise from leaking out directly to the front of the chassis. For 2.5” SSD or HDD mountings, the KL04 has specially designed cages that can be mounted in two locations depending on user needs. If you are looking for a chassis with server-like room for expansion but only limited footprint for a mid-tower, the KL04 is the choice.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Case

Pros: Nice case. Good airflow. Roomy interior.

Cons: It is a little bit too wide and too high for my taste. Also a little overpriced. Still looking for the perfect case.

5 out of 5 eggsRetracting Previous Review

Pros: Window situation resolved, all's-well
Silverstone sent windowed panel, I'm glad they did, no matter what I do I can never get lines cut straight as factory, and avoid using ugly rubber window molding is a plus. Don't get me wrong window molding rocks, but the factory stamped rounded edges is flat out the best. The best perk is the window is 1/4 plexi, and is held neatly by a couple of screws, if swapping plexi colors is your thing. Build is going really well, easy case to work with, and is very functional.

Cons: None, now that situation has been worked out. I guess Silverstone took a look at the competitors Ad. Felt the same way I did, It looks like there trying to sell windowed model.

Other Thoughts: Thank You New Egg for accurate information being posted. And allowing feed back that combats the manufacturer or other store blow the customer off. If my situation WAS the case or WAS NOT the case its nice to have a opportunity to make your statement with reps, and other customers, if it should happen that way. It seems Small but when you plan your build to be done a certain way, its all gung ho

1 out of 5 eggsThank You New Egg

Pros: Case Really seemed all-right, Just made a mistake of where I got the case.
1 egg silverstone
5+ Newegg

Cons: Wow don't expect much help, from customer service, whether from tiger direct or silver-stone.

Other Thoughts: I would like to thank new egg for selling the products they portray in there images. They don't show you one thing then send you another, Tiger direct has done this, time to move on and buy else where. I went there because they had the case kl-04 with the window, or made it appear they had the case with the window. If I knew I would of just bought from new egg and cut my own window. Then went on to email, then ignored and finally after 5 attemps to call I get through. They tell me they cant swap panels, I should go to silver stone, went to silver stone to see if they could send a windowed panel from CA, and I would send my solid panel to them. They e-mail back tell me that Tiger Direct sent me the right case in the order, and basically they cant help me either.
Well Here, go to tiger direct site and look at the Item#: S35-1246
You decide if there selling a case with or with out a window. Well may seem small, But it was one of the highlights to the build. Please keep on, keeping your displays accurate and your customer service helpful, and prevent time wasting.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone and we apologize for the misunderstanding. When you contacted us to verify if you had ordered the case correctly based on the model number, we answered your question without knowing that you had wanted the window initially. We pride ourselve in offering direct, local customer service so we are more than willing to help you get the product exactly the way you wanted especially since there was a mistake. If you haven't already, please get in contact with us again to get this sorted out:

4 out of 5 eggsGood case!

Pros: Simple-but-functional design
Dust filters EVERYWHERE
Plenty of 120mm fan mounting points
Plenty of room for upgradability and expansion
Plenty of room behind the motherboard for cable management, slots for cables to pass through.

Cons: Fewer sound dampening features as compared to my previous case, a Cooler Master Cosmos.

Other Thoughts: I bought this case as an upgrade to my Cooler Master Cosmos. At first, I was super excited about the Cosmos - it had everything I wanted. Room for expansion, unmatched front-panel connectivity, sound dampening features, and a slick design.

Unfortunately, USB 3.0 emerged, and my Cosmos lacked front-panel USB 3.0 connectivity (Ordinarily this wouldn't have been a problem, as I could've just purchased a USB 3.0-equipped card reader for one of it's external 3.5" bays). Additionally, I SUPERBLY underestimated the size and heft of the Cosmos packed with components. It was way too wide, way too long, and not built well enough to accommodate my occasional frequenting of LAN parties. Moving it out to my car, then from my car to a friend's house, then back into my car, then back to my home was taking it's toll on the case.

Lastly, the sound-dampening foam on the right side panel, combined with the (frankly, low-quality) side panel latching mechanism made cable management nearly impossible. The right side panel would next to NEVER fully latch shut, which finally drove me over the edge and I threw a fit and dented it badly.

I did some research and found this case, which lacked the front-panel connectivity of the Cosmos, but had a nice 20-30mm gap between the right side panel and the motherboard tray - with no foam taking up any of that space. Upon re-evaluating my actual usage, I decided that I hadn't actually used many of the front panel ports of the Cosmos. While I miss having FOUR front-panel USB ports, two (plus the USB 2.0 port on my card reader) has actually been JUST enough. The side panels don't mount with a flimsy mechanism, and use bona-fide thumbscrews to securely attach themselves. This case is also dwarfed by the Cosmos, making it far more portable.

For a premium case that follows a more traditional case-design approach, I'd say it's tough to top this one. I've been made a SilverStone fan through-and-through, I'll definitely be buying and recommending their products in the future.

My one criticism?

I wouldn't mind at least a LITTLE sound-proofing foam on the side panel. Like, 5mm worth would probably make my computer as silent as it was with the Cosmos, and still give me ample cable management space.
