Designed for use with Mini-DTX and Mini-ITX motherboards, the SG05-450 is the smallest Sugo yet. Compared with previous iterations at around 23 liters in volume, the SG05-450 at 10.8 liters is less than half the size! However, in keeping with the spirit of its Sugo name, the case is capable of swallowing many standard components while keeping everything cooled. For the first time in a case of this size class, the SG05-450 is equipped with a low speed 120mm fan that is mounted to create positive air pressure, ensuring good balance of cooling and quietness. Other notable features include the ability to accept 9 inch long graphics card, room for thicker 2.5 inch hard drives such as Western Digital’s VelociRaptor, full-height for retail boxed CPU coolers, and an 80 PLUS Bronze certified SFX 450W power supply. For building a fast PC in the smallest possible form factor, the SG05-450 is without peers.

  • newegg Little Enclosure, Massive Capability Despite of mere 10.8 liters in volume, the SilverStone Sugo SG05BB-450-USB3.0 features smart interior layout to accommodate DTX / Mini-ITX motherboard, 1x slim optical drive, 1x 3.5" HDD & 1x 2.5" HDD, CPU cooler up to 82mm in height and graphic card up to 9 inches in length.
  • newegg Excellent Cooling 1x 120mm front fan with a great number of vent holes on walls enables efficient cooling for the entire system.
  • newegg USB 3.0 Multimedia I/O Ports 2x USB 3.0 ports and 2x audio jacks on front panel allow easy connection to a range of peripherals.
  • newegg 450W SFX PSU Included An 80 PLUS Bronze Certified PSU deliver rated 450w of robust and stable power for all your components with minimum efficiency of 82% at any load between 20% and 100%.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little case

Pros: Can take a relatively tall cpu cooler, a relatively long card but takes up only a little real estate.

Cons: Squeeze-sided closure, no power connector for the slim optical drive, maybe a smidge of wasted space inside

Other Thoughts: This case has lots of positives and very few negatives. The case is easy to disassemble and the drive bays are easily removed, easy to work with and easy to reassemble. Even screwing in the slim optical drive wasn't too difficult. The case also has room for large expansion cards (it has two slots on the back). I think the manual says will take 9.8 inch long cards. In addition, it will take a CPU cooler up to 82mm tall the box says and I see no reason why it wouldn't.

My only negative comments, and they are all forgivable, are these. First, each side of the case cover has three 'slip over' alignment tabs to get it to seat properly. That system seems to work fine in my larger cases which have it, but it's fiddly on my case; aligning one seems to prevent others from aligning. Hopefully it's just mine and this doesn't happen to others. Also, for a power supply custom built for a mini-itx case with a slim optical drive opening, I was surprised there wasn't a standard slim OD power lead. Lastly, and this may be for cooling, it seems there is some real estate above the slim OP and below the 3.5" drive tray that could seat other drives.

All in all, if the drive spaces fit your need and you can get a slim OD that takes a standard SATA power (or you can buy an adapter) and you don't need the longest card or the tallest CPU cooler, this case will do the job in very little real estate.

5 out of 5 eggsBigger than I thought it would be.

Pros: I was looking to make the smallest non-proprietary gaming PC I could, and this fit the bill, beating out a mini-ITX that took a full size PSU and had a lot of extra features I didn't need or want, or another box that had a proprietary motherboard.
I coupled this with an H77 board, i5, 7850, and a pair of 2.5" drives. The temps are great, the PSU handles everything without issue. Nice ventilation on the side.

Cons: I wish there was a better way to mount multiple 2.5" drives, but that's what a drill is for.

Other Thoughts: Drilled holes in the bottom to fit a 2.5" drive between the motherboard and the front of the chassis. I may look into finding a way to mount 4 2.5" drives in place of the optical bay tray, as I have no intentions of using it.

5 out of 5 eggsPhenomenal case

Pros: This is the smallest (and best-priced!) case available that still supports a full-sized mainstream video card in the $150-300 range. The cooling is exceptional -- I'm running a 2500k at 4.4ghz with no heat issues using the stock cooler, which is amazing -- and you sacrifice almost nothing with mITX these days (can't do dual GPUs, but two memory slots is enough for 16GB of DDR3, and virtually all PCI cards can be replaced by USB devices).

Cons: Cable management is initially intimidating; it's certainly not the easiest case to work in, but once you've taken it apart a couple of times it actually becomes pretty easy to tuck excess SATA cables / USB headers / ATX plugs into the front and the top without obstructing the main fan.

Other Thoughts: Really terrific. Given that Intel's current development efforts are focused on iGPUs and power consumption, this case + Sandy Bridge + a Kepler GPU will likely remain a high watermark for powerful, compact desktops through 2015.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic case + PSU

Pros: Small size
high quality power supply
superb ventilation
quiet case fan and PSU fan

Cons: Cable management is a PITA

Other Thoughts: I got an MSI 7950 twin frozr edition to put in this, as it was the most powerful card I could get that would conceivably work in this case. It *does not* fit normally, there is exactly 10" inside the case for a GPU, and even then it will rub up against the case fan, however with the heat sink cover on the twin frozr card, the total length was more like 10.25". I had to cut out a section of the frame to allow this GPU to fit. It is covered by the plastic front panel which just barely has room over the heat sink cover. If you are not comfortable with metal cutting tools you must make sure the maximum length of your video card is less than 10".

Other than that, works great with my i5-3570k, Asus p8z77-I mobo, samsung 840 pro SSD, the MSI 7950 twin frozr, and a generic LG slim dvd drive

4 out of 5 eggsGreat small case!

Pros: Great case, small, well built, and still fits a standard video card.

Cons: The CD drive doesn't fit perfectly (such that the cd tray rubs against the case on the top side); I had to jimmy up a spacer (folded paper) to get the drive to get a center fit.

Other Thoughts: The fan isn't the quietest thing in the world and the blue LED lights on the front can be a bit harsh. Both can be mitigated by lowering fan speed and disconnecting the LED lights.

4 out of 5 eggsMinor flaws

Pros: Smallest case I could find that could accommodate a full sized gfx card.

Cons: The hard drive slots are too close to the pci slots and face the wrong way. You only have one option as to which way the drives are oriented, the power/sata connections face the pci slots. It is so close that you can't install the gfx card unless you use right angle connectors on the hard drives.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost right

Pros: The OG of SFF. It can be water-cooled.

Cons: Not quite enough interior space. PSU wires suck.

Other Thoughts: I've owned 3 of the discontinued versions, still SG-05B but with a 300W PSU for almost 2 years. I purchased them as all purpose PC's and they fill that role quite well. I also wanted to use water-cooling since CPU fan space is limited and besides I wanted QUIET over power.

If you remove the 3.5" HDD cage and destroy the 2.5" bracket attached to the slim DVD, then a Corsair H50/60 will fit nicely. The problem is twofold; the PSU wiring and installing a HDD.

I used a drill and rubber grommets to install my 3.5" drives. Not for everyone but it has worked for years. I believe, but am not certain that a 2.5" drive could be attached under the DVD without interfering with the radiator or the PSU wiring.

About the PSU wiring, I smashed it all together and used 3 zip ties to get them out of my face. I did consider disassembling the PSU and using a soldering iron to just remove the excess SATA power connections.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SFF Case

Pros: Small!
Easy to work in
Quiet case fan - golf ball blades, 1200RPM
High quality PSU
No front panel audio interference!
Accepts up to 10" cards (9" spec leaves room for connectors on end of card) - fits my reference 660Ti perfectly
Black interior!
Updated with USB3

Cons: Non-PWM fan
PSU cables are too long & poorly sleeved
No thumb screws for case access
Mysterious mounting boss between mobo & fan (could easily mount a drive there if that wasn't there) - I used 3/16" foam project board and servo tape to mount my SSD there
Short Front panel audio cable
Bright HDD LED
Paint is relatively easy to scratch (like all 3 of my current Silverstone builds)
Some buckling of top/side panels when installing properly (not sized/manufactured correctly)

Other Thoughts: Mobo is mounted with fine thread screws (ODD type screws)
You need to remove fan (everything but mobo) to mount long (9.5") graphics cards
With proper wire management, I can tear it down to individual components and back to a built system in ~30 minutes.

My Build:
SG05-450W
Asus P8Z77I-Deluxe
EVGA 660Ti SC 2GB
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD
Scythe Big Shuriken 2 CPU Cooler
Enermax T.B.Silence PWM 120mm Case Fan
Corsair Vengeance LP DDR3-1600 8GB
Win7 Home 64 bit

4 out of 5 eggsWell Designed Case

Pros: The case feels solid. Manufacturer clearly designed this case with builders in mind. There is enough room for everything, but prepared to put some work into getting everything to fit while maintaining good airflow. The 450W PSU is a really nice thing to have in a case of this size. Should be plenty to power whatever is thrown at it, given that SLI is not possible with this case, anyway.

Cons: PSU died after a day of use. SilverStone has a great reputation, so I assume this was just a fluke. I ordered a replacement and it has worked well.

The HDD bracket can only be held in by screws at one end (the screws at the other end are inaccessible once the bracket is in place), so it sort of hangs there, on top of the the nest of wires coming from the PSU.

Other Thoughts: Excellent cable management is a MUST in this case and it can be a real challenge. The case is very, very small (that's why you're getting a Mini-ITX case, after all), and if you're using the HDD bracket and don't run all of your cabling out of the way as best you can as you go along, you're gonna have a bad time, airflow-wise. Also, once you have the video card in, you're not going to be able to access very much (it'll take up the entire left side of the case), so try to get everything else situated before you install it.
