SilverStone SG06BB-LITE Black Aluminum Front Panel, Steel Body Mini-ITX Desktop Computer Case

Introduced in 2009, the Sugo SG06 was a revelation for a form factor originally destined for low powered computing. Designed for use with Mini-DTX and Mini-ITX motherboards, the SG06 was capable of swallowing many standard components while keeping everything cooled. It was the first Mini-ITX case in its size class equipped with 120mm fan and capable of accommodating 10-inch graphics card. This breakthrough design allowed anyone to build a fast and affordable PC in a case smaller than a shoebox. With SFX power supplies becoming more popular thanks to the success of SG06 and subsequent case designs, SilverStone has decided to release a version of SG06 called, "SG06-Lite" that comes without an SFX power supply included. This bare chassis model will enable more affordable price and give users greater flexibility in choosing components.

  • Ample space for CPU cooling (82mm in height)
  • Elevated standoff for motherboard back side components
  • Unprecedented 120mm fan in mini casing for positive pressure cooling
  • Support 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives
  • Mini-DTX / Mini-ITX motherboard & SFX PSU compatible
  • Standard-length expansion cards support (10 inches)

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect ITX Desktop!

Pros: I LOVE this case. I've been building for decades, and this case was WELL thought out. I fit a Radeon 5770 (old, I know, but it's big) easily. My RAM heatsinks fit just fine too.

Cons: Not much room for hard drives, but that's not why you buy this case. It fits an SSD and an HDD; what else do you need?

Other Thoughts: I recommend 6" SATA cables for your disks (excluding your CD drive). They fit PERFECTLY and increase airflow big time.

3 out of 5 eggsgood case but lacks air flow

Pros: It is a small case that is not that small

Cons: The big problem is air flow in the case. The front fan is behind a filter that requires the case to be opened to clean it, and it is the only fan. A fan by the CPU would help, on the side of the case... NOTE: integrated graphics were used so there was no help from a video card fan.

Other Thoughts: I built a new system with the I74770 CPU using the stock CPU cooler. It overheated on heavy load. I tried the Silverstone NT-06 CPU cooler which helped but it was a problem installing it ( I later found that the CPU paste did not distribute evenly) and the CPU would continue to overheat under heavy load (running BOINC software) but it did help when I installed a fan by the CPU heatsink. The heat seems to sit in the case and a second exhaust fan would have helped. I am now using a bigger case and a h100i CPU cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsgood case

Pros: Small good looking case. Very happy.
Replaced old mid tower, now something missing- to much empty space around my desk.

Cons: SFX PU only! Need skills for cable management.
Slim optical drive installation need little time.
3.5 HD bracket not so grate.

Other Thoughts: I will by one more same case to build one more work station.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC / Mini Gaming Case

Pros: This case is solidly build and very easy to work in. I was impressed with the paint quality on such a cheap case. The top and sides slide of for the build, making access very easy for such a small case. The case fits reasonably sized GPUs and is quite while keeping everything cool.

Cons: The power light on the front is blindingly bright at night. Even worse it flashes brightly when the computer is put to sleep (this is as designed per the instruction manual). As a HTPC I planned on having this almost always on just in sleep, but not with that beacon flashing in my entertainment center! It annoys even me, not to mention my borderline OCD wife!

Not worth taking an egg because I can just disconnect the jumper to fix this. I am just currently to lazy to open it back up to pull it!

Other Thoughts: A modular PSU would be nice, but not necessary for this case. It was a super easy build up until the last item the PSU. All the cables really do take up a lot of the space and get difficult to connect.

My Build:

-SilverStone SG06BB-LITE Black
- ASRock B85M-ITX LGA 1150
-Intel Core i5-4430 Haswell 3.0GHz LGA 1150
-G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB (Stolen from a previous build as I am cheap)
-MSI N650TI-1GD5/V1 GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB
-Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit - OEM

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap
Plenty of room

Cons: I would prefer a case fan with higher cfm.
i7 2600k runs in the 70's under 100% load with a full case and stock cooler

Other Thoughts: Paired with ASUS P8Z77-I, 2 ssd, 3.5 HD, and a evga 670 ftw. There's plenty of places to secure the 2nd 2.5" ssd in this case. Case fan is inaudible but I might replace with a fan that has more flow.

5 out of 5 eggsBravo

Pros: Price - in my opinion this case has the highest quality for the price range. It's just about as small as it gets for a high performance Mini ITX gaming machine. See "Other thoughts" for more details.

Cons: Size - I'm water cooling mine and I was able to fit a single 120mm rad (25mm thick), fan and pump/reservoir combo but it's a tight fit and I had to remove the drive bays. Also, it fits one 2.5" drive and one 3.5" drive. So don't look to this case if you're looking to build a NAS or have more than a couple drives.

Other Thoughts: Bravo to Silvestone on this one. I liked this case but up until this "lite" version they all came with power supplies. I have a 600W power supply and the largest offered by Silverstone was 450W. The front of this case is metal and feels very solid (there is some plastic mounted to the front to connect it to the case).
I love that the 5.25" slim drive and 3.5" bays are removable. Makes it very easy to install all your components. There is plastic grommets to protect cables from sharp metal (I personally wouldn't expect this for a case in this price range).
When I had taken everything out of the case (bays, fan, front cover, etc.) the frame is still very solid. It does not bend or twist.
Stand-offs are mounted to the base. Screws for the standoffs fit perfectly. Fan comes with grill.
If there was anything I would change about this case, I would make it 1" longer. That's just so I could fit a thicker radiator in there. Air cooling, I think this case hits it out of the park.

What's inside:
ASUS Maximus VI Impact
Intel i7 4770k
Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD
ASUS GTX 760 (beware water cooling as there is no water block for this card)
Athena Power 600W SFX power supply
Alphacool NexXxos ST30 120mm Radiator
Bitspower AIZ87M6IITX Water block Nickel/Red
Alphacool DC-LT Pump/Top/Rez combo

4 out of 5 eggsNice compact case, great for HTPC

Pros: Stylish, good price, and loads of space for a small mini-ITX case.

120mm fan in front, and what looks like enough space to mount a 120mm sealed water cooler!

Cons: Power and HD LED's are bright enough to blind you, if you use this as an HTPC to watch movies in a darkened room. They were so bright I could not focus on the TV. I had to take the front cover off and put 4 layers of window tint in there to make them output a reasonable amount of light.

Requires a small form factor (SFX?) PSU. The only one available on Newegg is a 600+watt unit. Silverstone also ships these with 300 and 450 watt units pre-installed. If you buy one of these, or purchase the PSU separately part of the price advantage goes out the window.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if they used lower light LED's

Also, any case that uses a slim optical drive bay really should include a slim SATA adapter, which this one does not.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case

Pros: Price, style, excellent engineering and design. In all a quality build despite the plastic front. Everything fits nicely and 120mm fan in case is nearly silent from 6-8 ft away. Hardly audible up close.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Other hardware details:
i3-4130T Haswell, N82E16819116947
ASUS H87I-PLUS, N82E16813132032 (be warned, I experienced issues with the MB staying shutdown, see my review on the MB's page for details)
SILVERSTONE ST30SF, N82E16820147192

5 out of 5 eggsNearly perfect SFF case

Pros: I was looking for case that could house a mini ITX board, an optical drive, one 2.5" hard drive, and have room for a small video card. It had to have PSU that gave me a little bit of headroom or room for a small PSU I already have on hand. I also wanted something cheap.

This little case ended up being just what I needed. I was able to fit everything in the case, with room for future upgrades.

The case is not only inexpensive, but it looks great and has a nice build quality. I like that there is no built-in PSU, so I can pick my own instead of being saddled with a built-in unit of questionable quality.

The drive mount area is smartly designed. It uses a slim optical drive to save on space. There is a spot under the optical drive for mounting a 2.5" drive. Under that is a detachable mount for a 3.5" drive. I like that I can take off the 3.5" drive mount to free up some space in the case.

I was actually surprised at all the hardware one could theoretically cram into this thing. I used it to built a budget workstation, but with proper component choices (energy efficient hardware), a person could put some respectable gaming hardware in this case.

Despite the open grate on the top of the case, I can barely hear the fans inside the case.

Cons: Installing the slim optical drive is very tricky due to the tiny screws. Having a magnetic screw driver is recommended.

Other Thoughts: I have owned a lot of Silverstone hardware and they never disappoint. I don't even go looking for that specific brand, but they always seem to have the features I am looking for.

My hardware is:
AMD A4-3400 APU
ASRock Mini ITX FM1 motherboard
Team Vulcan DDR3 2x4 gigs RAM
Silverstone 450 watt SFX PSU
Seagate 500 gig 2.5" hybrid hard drive
Samsung slim DVD-RW drive
HIS Radeon HD 5450 Silence PCI Express x1 Low Profile video card
USB 3.0 to 2.0 internal header adapter
slim optical drive sata power adapter

5 out of 5 eggsVery good case !

Pros: This is a well designed box, everything fit well, and has a very good fan and mesh opening all sides of case for good cooling. Awesome if you want to run a big CPU/fan and big normal size video card. You can also fit standard itx power supply, which offer many brand and power you need. Front panel is all aluminum and get usb 3.0. I'm glad of my purchase.

Cons: The two small things I've found is about the hdd rack. Good design with side slider for 3.5, but everything fits very tight on graphic card side, so you'll need to buy 90deg sata and power connector if you want to install 3.5inches HDD. Power supply wires output routing is still tight on hdd rack. Not to much space on this aspect.

Other Thoughts: It's the best bang for the bucks I founded, good price and high quality.
