SilverStone's Raven Series Computer Case - Black - ATX - Full Tower - RV01B-W-USB3.0

The mission for SilverStone’s Raven team is to design products with styling and features that exceed classic originals in boldness and intention. So a brief look at the first Raven chassis, the RV01, one can easily see that the mission was accomplished with spectacular results.

The RV01’s stealth fighter inspired outer shell is styled aggressively but with a small hint of SilverStone’s famed reservation by the use of only matte finish. This gives RV01 an unmistakable wow factor and a look that will remain pleasing for years to come. For the interior, a revolutionary layout was utilized to take advantage of a very simple natural, phenomenon - heat, by rotating the motherboard 90 degrees for air to rise up more smoothly over graphics card area.

Equipped with dual 180mm fans and a 120mm fan, the RV01's has excellent cooling potential with its factory tuning perfectly balanced between performance and quietness. If there is a breakthrough chassis to be had for several generations of components upgrade, the Raven RV01 is definitely the one.

Pros: Looks Kewl... Reminds one of a Stealth Fighter.

Cons: When I opened the box there were 2 black broken tabs in the bottom. I identified 1 from the rear panel. The other one I still don't know where it came from. Also when I first went to power on the computer, it would not start. Traced it to a broken wire on the power switch in the case. Was able to resolder the connection and all is well. Seems a little quality control is in order from Silverstone

4 out of 5 eggsStill a power player in the case world

Pros: I have had this case for just over two years now. After having a case with this mounting system, I will never go back to the traditional ATX mounting scheme, if for nothing else than the fact that there is no more strain on the x16 slots due to heavy graphics cards

Cons: There are a few issues that I have with this case, and most of them are me just being picky:

-Weight: This case (at least with the amount of hardware I have in it) is almost 65 lbs. But you cant have your cake and eat it

-Lack of watercooling options: If you are alright using a bracket system to mount a radiator externally on the back, you are all set. However, this severely compromises the otherwise clean aesthetics of this case. have toyed with the idea of using the basement for smaller radiator space, but there is just no room

-Door latch: Every long term review of this case that I have found mentions the more than likely eventuality that the latch holding the "guillotine" door open on the front will fail. This has happened to me twice. To fix this involves contacting Silverstone and having them ship you a replacement piece, and then dissembling the case to replace it, taking around an hour and a half each time. I promise that if you have to do this, you will not have a good time taking this tightly-built case apart and then putting it back together

Other Thoughts: I commend Silverstone for creating such a radically different case, and making it available for much less than the TJ11-B. If you dont mind a little bit of bench time to get this case the way you want it, it will more than likely be a perfect fit. I see myself using this case in builds for years to come

4 out of 5 eggsRaven 1 Review

Pros: This case was a good buy for me. It is quite sturdy and has held up to multiple road trips over the last 2 years. There is so much space inside on both sides of the motherboard. The Spacing on the back side of the motherboard pretty much gives you unlimited cable management options. Cooling has never been an issue for me with this case. It does exactly what the company promotes and there is more than enough space for liquid cooling or a small child (jk)...

Cons: The case size in general makes it hard to travel with. Also, depending on how your office/game room is setup you might need to buy a bigger desk. The Front panel that slides up and down hiding the CD/DVD slots does not always lock in place for me anymore, however ive had the case for a few years now. The front LED is very bright and will light up a room entirely. Other than the front panel slider not working right for me I have no real complaints about the case.

Other Thoughts: I was looking at upgrading to the new RV03 case as the position of the Power Supply is in a better location for optimal cooling. Although the RV03 is a bit smaller than the RV01 in comparison.
