1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY -- power supply is junk

Pros: None

Cons: This thing's power supply was extremely noisy out of the box, and it did not survive a 48-hour smoke test. The PSU's fan sometimes works, sometimes doesn't -- not exactly the kind of thing you want to put into a production network. Save your money and get another brand / model of mini-ITX case.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer:

Please contact our tech support department for a replacement of the PSU.

Thank you,
iStarUSA Group

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Metal compact.

Cons: As previously noted fan is loud. Spend another $6 and get a Scythe Mini KAZE ULTRA 40mm Silent Mini Fan. Pops in same spot as previous fan. Snip snip the cables of the old fan plug the new one into the board and you are in business. Of course this will kill the warranty but it had to be done.

Other Thoughts: I used an Asrock j1900 board and Windows Media 7 Home as HTPC. Netflix HD running flawless.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Case Bad Planning

Pros: Extremely sturdy enclosure - mostly made of steel. I wouldn't worry about dropping the case from a good height except for whatever is inside of it. As one reviewer said you can stand on it without worrying about crushing it. Space is at a premium, so it could be tough for first time builders.

Cons: The PCI Express slot on the top is almost useless. You have the 2" hdd/ssd hanging upside down and mounted right where the PCI Express slot is supposed to go. I literally have my 2" SSD sitting behind the power supply with only the harness coming from my power supply holding it in place by the front. I can only imagine what you would put put in there...

Other Thoughts: It's a good case just so long as you don't plan on putting a small video card in this case. It just won't fit - unless you put a extremely low profile cpu fan/heatsink in there (probably less than 35mm heatsink; keep in mind if you do so you will probably need low profile ram) and you take out the mount for your SSD. I imagine the reason they put that PCI slot at the top is to hold a wireless wifi adapter in there... I hope all this helps for future purchasers.

4 out of 5 eggsspace optimizer

Pros: for pros only. do not buy if you lack knowledge of 1. a mobo with heatsink that will clear the height and 2. the right riser card for the mobo. istar makes the latter part easy as istarusa customer service can find the right card for you. they also offered optional VESA mounting brackets or shelves that will hoist multiple boxes on a rack. Quality wise, you get your bang for the buck with this kinda of combination. but i suggest budgeting for PSU purchases at initial purchase. Search 1U Flex in newegg search bar and you can find alternative ones. got this with the intel board deal over a year ago and it's still been running in my entertainment closet as a media center. love the frontal access of the USB ports and

Cons: temperature can get up there if your environment cooling lacks proper circulation or any circulation at all. one of my case came with a loose screw on the PSU. make sure that's checked before proceeding to the build or it could it crowded to fix a simple problem down the road.

Other Thoughts: had couple friends came over who viewed my configuration and actually wants me to install additional units in their house. might be able to offer this as a complete solution. there is opportunities for builders to put your maker's mark in the front bezel with the logo slot. wished the cover and botton panel came with pre-dentures so that one can be stacked on top of each other without worrying about sliding off. wish it came with a cover for the USB jacks and added audio ports as well. This would have gotten 10 of 10 if made of light weight aluminum.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it.

Pros: Built like a tank. Size, I had no issues with fan noise. Perhaps it has been corrected? Power supply cables a bit long, but very flexible and easy to route. 3 spots to put case fans. This case is designed for ganging together and putting in a rack and it is made industrial strength. All metal, no plastic. Looks great.

Cons: pcie riser for this case is hard to get and expensive.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: S-21 is a well built case for a micro PC with 1or 2 SSD. ?? how you would fit in a HDD

Cons: PSU works fine, but is incredible noisy / not useable in SO/HO

Other Thoughts: iStarUSA replaced PSU, but just as noisy. Great micro PC with quiet 3rd party PSU!

3 out of 5 eggsSmall and sturdy but also loud and unexpandable

Pros: It's a nice sturdy case and about as small as a case can be to fit a motherboard.

Cons: The fan is extremely loud. I replaced mine ($10) with a much quieter fan. Also, very difficult to expand. It requires a PCI riser to put any expansion cards in, has no 5.25" bay (for DVD ROMs) and holds only a single HD.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't even consider it!

Pros: - It worked great up until now.
- OCZ gives you a 5 year warranty

Cons: It only lasted about 4 months as of today, it officially died.

Other Thoughts: You're safest bet is to go with any other ssd.
