1 out of 5 eggsArrived defective

Pros: Nice solid case design

Cons: Arrived with a defective Power supply. Would cut power off every 45-90 seconds. Tried the motherboard with a quality high end power supply and there were no problems. I guess the power supply that come with these cases are garbage. Will re returning my case for either a replacement or refund.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power apologize for the inconvenience and we would like to assist you in solving these problems if it occurs ever again. Please feel free to contact us at or call us at (626) 810-5008 if you ever need assistance with our products.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect size for ATOM MB

Pros: Exactly the size i needed for the Intel D525 Atom board. The 200 Watt PSU is more than enough. Easily mounts 1x 3.5 or 2x 2.5 HDD's (if you don't use the card slot). Cables are long enough. I like the way the fan "control board" is designed, you can easily connect it to your MB, instead the PSU, to slow down the fans.

Cons: The fans are a little bit on the noisy side, but who needs 3 fans in a Atom setup anyway. The area between the fans and the MB gets a little bit tight for all the cables.

Other Thoughts: Just a reminder for everyone... Standard backplates DO NOT fit in 1U cases. It has nothing to do with the design of any case. It has to do with the overall height.

2 out of 5 eggsIts Ok but...

Pros: Small and shallow.
Good for a 12" deep wall mount rack

Cons: This case is good for ultra low profile boards and backplates

The standard min-itx mobo backplate will not firt.

The rear opening is not tall enough to support rear backplate.

The fans are very loud, and the power cables are in the way of airflow.

This will accept a full size 3.5" HDD but unable to install PCI card when in use.

There is room for 2 2.5" HDD but still unable to install PCI card.

Must purchase a riser kit.

Other Thoughts: I gave it a 3 because you are unable to load a backplate on it, therefore making the build aesthetically inferior.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Where to start... So this case is pretty cool. It's small, light, quiet, and can be mounted in a rack. The device comes packaged well and feels like a sturdy appliance. The power usage is low, only about 45watts when running with a Intel MoBo with D525 Atom chip and Seagate 2.5" drive.

Cons: This device is pretty solid, but does have a few Cons. They are all pretty minor and wouldn't sway me from buying another one of these, but if the Athena people read this stuff, hopefully they will make some changes.

1) The device doesn't come with any documentation. There isn't that much too it, but it should have some info.

2) The rackmount ears should be mountable to the front or the back of the device. Currently, the ears only mount to the front. Since this is a 10" deep device, you should have the open of mounting it facing either direction.

3) The device consumes 5Watts of power when completely off. Not a big deal, but it shouldn't be using any power when off. This is often an indication of a cheap power supply.

4) The motherboard connectors are not labeled with + or - . This can be a bit frustrating figuring out which lead is the + or the - and where it should go.

5) The fans produce good airflow but are inhibited by the cables.

Other Thoughts: I bought this device to become an ESX server that I would bring onsite when I do network/infrastructure installs. The idea was this device would operate as a jump-box that has several different tools like ACS, a Windows VM, a Linux VM, etc..

To that end, I think this device is excellent. It can be mounted anywhere, is light enough, etc..

If you buy this appliance, I'd make a few recommendations:

1) Buy a PCI Riser extender. Look for the flexible ones. The PCI slot on this is horizontal, while the slot on the board is vertical.

2) Buy a low-heat or passively cooled device. If a device needs a high amount of cooling, it will be tough to accomplish with the existing fans and amount of wiring that accumulates in front of the fans.

3) The mounting plates for the external connectors that come with most Motherboards will not fit, so do not expect a plate to fit without modifying it. Remember, this is a 1U appliance and most Mobo plates are taller than that.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power appreciate that you find our product working well for you. Your feedback is valuable to us and we will pass it along to our R&D department. Once again thank you for your patronage.
