5 out of 5 eggsWow...

Pros: Lightweight, fan control, and temp monitoring.

Cons: Wish the temp controls would save setting after powering off and default to fahrenheit

3 out of 5 eggsGood case, quality problems with display

Pros: Looks nice, decent fans, power supply just fine for server/HTPC. Look elsewhere for rackmount gaming machine. Need a few more fans if you're going to load it up with drives, but the case holes make for fairly easy mounting. Agree with other reviews on the metal used, it's nice.

Cons: Serious quality issues on the fan display. Ordered 3 of these in the last year, 2 of 3 fan controllers are bad. Athena support is responsive, but I shouldn't have to RMA 2 out of 3.

Other Thoughts: Read the fine print on the full model number (newegg please update to the real pics of this case). The picture would make you think you get an uptime counter, but this model only has fan control. It does have individual temperature set points per fan, kinda handy.

I still like the case, but Athena, fix the quality on the display.

4 out of 5 eggsLooks nice.

Pros: Unit looks nice, used in a FreeNAS build with 6 3.5" drives. I like the fanspeed / temperature / uptime display on the front of the device. Removable grills with dust filters on the front make for easy cleaning. Included fans are actually quiet for a server, and can still move a decent amount of air. Lots of room for a 2U case.

Cons: Uptime counter rolls over at 99 hours... makes that sort of a useless feature. Better to have the last digit group replaced with days (with 999 days being the max, please).

Included power supply is real garbage. Was tripping my circuit breaker when I was testing with it on minimal load, contacted customer support but decided to simply drop the issue since I wasn't going to use it anyway. Might be beneficial to not include a power supply on a server unit since I'd bet most people wouldn't use the included PS anyway. Save some cost and everyone some heartache.

Working with the hard drive enclosures is a huge pain. I found removing them from the case to install the drives is easier. Not hot-swappable, you'll need to screw them into the holders.

Front panel is a bit cheap and leaves some things to be desired - power and reset buttons are shoddy.

Other Thoughts: Feels solidly built, no sharp edges, and aside from the drive enclosures it is easy to work with. I'd buy the unit again for my next project.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked for me

Pros: Nice looking 2U case.

Cons: Power supply seems a bit 'iffy'.

Other Thoughts: The first time I tried firing up the computer, using this case, the power supply was dead. I kid you not, I slapped the side of the case with my hand and the thing powered up and has worked 24/7 for the past 6 months. It's running stripped down CentOS as a server and seems reliable. ATTENTION - If you want the unit to remember your fan settings, you MUST purchase and install a CR2032 battery and install behind the front panel. This will backup your fan settings. There is no mention of this in the instructions. I bought this because it's only 15" deep, and so far so good.

3 out of 5 eggsGood case, bad power supply

Pros: Decent case, nice temp display

Cons: Included 400W power supply resets when supplying about 150W. 300W power supplies work without problems. Replaced with Diablotek DA Series PSDA600 for size match (depth is a bit more but still fits nicely).

Fan control unit resets settings to turn on both fans at 38c when the power cycles making the 'adjustable' temp useless unless you make a note to redo after server reboots and power losses.

Hard drive mounts are tricky to install without a magnetic screw driver.

Other Thoughts: The power supply cannot handle an i5 with a single hard drive and no add-on cards. You will almost certainly need to replace it to run any real setup.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power apologize for the inconvenience, please contact us for a RMA for that powr supply. You can contact us at or call us at (626) 810-5008..

2 out of 5 eggsAthena was very hard to deal with.

Pros: Nice sized case. Good quality for the price.

Cons: My power supply was DOA. I called Athena because I already had my MB and drives installed to see if they would just replace the power supply. They agreed. (this is where is went down hill) Good new is I got the new power supply but it too months and they blamed me for not listing a RMA number. They never gave me a RMA number or said I needed an RMA number. Bottom line, it was very frustrating dealing with Athena, return to Newegg, don't bother working with this manufacture.

Other Thoughts: The fan control is problematic, it does not keep it's settings. I have to keep resetting it up when I power cycle.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power apologize for the inconvenience and we will make every effort in the future to inform user about our RMA process. Feel free to contact us at or call us at (626) 810-5008 if you have any future issues with our products or concerns.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Smaller 2U case
Front Display shows system temp and can control upto 4 fans

Cons: First Case: couldn't push the power supply beyond 200w or it would shut down.
RMA: powersupply was DOA
Front connector cables are 24" long, the entire case is only 15"

Other Thoughts: Could be a decent case if the power supply worked, ill be going with a different manufacturer from now on.

Manufacturer Response:

We at Athena Power apologize for the inconvenience and we would like to assist you with an RMA for the defective PSU. Please contact us at or call us at (626) 810-5008 and a service representative will be happy to assist you with the RMA. Thank you.

4 out of 5 eggsNice case, HDD mounts are a bit tricky

Pros: Cheap 2U case, the LED display doesn't do much for me except make the front of my rack look cooler. Bought this together with the rails:

Cons: The HDD mounts are difficult to deal with. Make sure you have a reliable magnetic screw driver since you will not be able to fit your fingers in there. Also, it is a very tight fit if you are putting HDDs in there, so put the motherboard in first, then add the HDDs.
