3 out of 5 eggsTurkey

Pros: Don't wait until Christmas, get your turkey now by buying this case!

It is the only server chassis on Newegg that will allow me to get tank with my wife while putting parts together. Fortunately, she went out for an extra 12 pack once she saw the case. Oh dear, I love her to death, she is smart!

Cons: The case:

For 170 bucks there were no exhaust fans on this turkey. Common Athena, seriously!? 2 x 60 on the back is a must and at this price they should be included.

Builders, while you will be pushing a fair amount of air from the front (120mm fan included), most of it is blocked by HDDs. The lack of exhaust will turn your server into a oven; oh yeah, so you can cook your turkey! Basically, warm air flow gets to your CPU and hangs around your box because there is no exhaust to pull hot air out. Out of the box, there is no air flow in this build. 2 x Noctua A-Series NF-A6x25 60mm did it for me (N82E16835608032).

I am certainly convinced that it is impossible for anyone to sit 6 x 3.5 inside this case with most Micro ATX motherboard. For once, your P1 connector will most likely be sitting in front of the HDD bays. Also, be careful with RAM if slots happen to be located towards the front of the box (most likely they will). Obviously, other reviewers know something that I don't. I was able to sit only 4 x 3.5 WD Black Enterprise HDD (2 drives on each HDD holder).

With a High Point Raid card 2320 8 x Sata II (N82E16816115026 ) or any build looking to pack some 10-20 drives into this case, you want to use the front 5.25 bays to really maximize the build. iStarUSA 1 x 5.25" to 6 x 2.5" (N82E16816215222) should be a good start. At least, it was for me but keep reading please, the nightmare is just starting.

The PSU:

HERCULES, HERCULES , HERCULES, HERCULEEESSSSSS!!!

Athena has no interest in offering a reliable PSU solution for this U3 chassis. Their track proves it; they have "upgraded the PSU cabling"... o.O

You've got to be joking me! The HERCULES PSU included with this box is garbage at its best and the cables are too short!

1- The P4 cable is way too short. Hence, you can't power up your CPU unless you extend it somehow. Athena Power Cable-AD09 12" P4-12V (4Pin) connector Extension Cable (N82E16812198005)

2- P1 cable is also too short and you may need an extension as well.

3- 3 x molex and 3 x Sata is not enough if somehow you manage to sit the 7 x 3.5 drives they advertise. Using molex splitters will simply overload the rail and your server will shut off (400 Watts power supply huh? Don't tell me the total wattage and talk about rails in the description so builders can have a real idea of what to expect!!!

4- Power supply will not provide stable voltage/ Amp under increased load.

Since I needed to fire up this box the same day, I ended up cutting the P6 DELL connector from the PSU and welding a 3 x molex extension to give myself another extra 3 molex.

A PSU replacement is on its way. Make sure to get a short length PSU if you are using HDD cages on the 3 x 5.25 this chassis offers.

20 minutes build my a-$-$. Please don't B-S your Newegg customers; they are more or less well educated in their vast majority when it comes to building PCs and servers, otherwise they wouldn't be purchasing your parts

Other Thoughts: The case is sturdy. I don't need the eye candy. The front temp display and the 4 x fan connectors is a nice extra that nobody will look at once you rack up your server. Most likely, there will be monitoring software in place to handle notifications. If this is what costed me the extra 60 bucks in this case, please reimburse me now; I will be happy to ship it back to Athena!

Honestly folks, there will be others purchasing this case and that's fine. For the rest of us, don't get me wrong thinking that I'm somehow saying that you should look somewhere else; what I'm saying it to look somewhere else! You will end up putting too much money into things that should have been there in the first place for the price you are paying: extensions, fans, and ultimately replacing the PSU which is what I'm doing.

Athena thinks it is OK to offer a fair chassis with such a poor power supply and I think it is not. As respect for their opinion, I will make sure not to purchase another one of these unless my wife decides to get drunk during another build, but we don't drink often and this lady is smarter than me at just 2 things: 1- Cooking 2- Everything else.

Neeexxxt!

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: OK chassis for the price and size. easy to install the system board in. if the stand offs and power cable were correct I would have had the server built in under a hour.

Cons: the power supply needs to have longer cables and not sure way 2 of the stand offs are half the height of the rest.... luckily I had some old stand offs the fit. also sure how you could fit all the drives it says with a system board installed.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Chassis; Looks Great

Pros: Looks Great
Arrived in Excellent Condition
Fits tons of drives

Cons: All the screws come tossed together in the same bag
Can be difficult to disassemble
Inconsistent packaging

Other Thoughts: I recently bought 4 of these to build rackmount computers for work. 2 of the posts where you mount the MOBO are short for some reason and come with standoffs. 2 of the 4 didn't have these standoffs and therefor my MOBO (the ASRock B75M R2.0) didn't ground properly causing quite a few issues. I spoke with customer service and the parts are on their way. Overall, I really like this chassis and will buy it again if the need arises.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Awesome

Pros: - Has room for desktop ATX PSU
- 3 x 5.25" Bays that face out
- 3 x 3.5" Internal bays
- Cases have a clear plastic wrap on them to prevent scratches which you can peel off (similar to that on the face of a new iPhone)

Cons: - Have to remove pretty much everything to install drives into the 3.5" bays
- Almost all screws and screw-holes are stripped by manufacturer
- PSU is inconsistant (bought 2 cases, one had 4 Molex, while the other PSU had 3 Molex -- both PSU's are Hercules Model # AP-MP53ATX40 and have the Athena Power brand )
- PSU's output 11.6 volts on the 12 volt connector which causes random shut-downs. Tested system configuration used only 222 watts, and had to buy new desktop PSU's to replace them.

Other Thoughts: - Buy lots of extra screws to replace all the stripped ones.
- Have a long neck magnetized screwdriver handy -- you will need it to install the 3.5" drives
- Throw the PSU in the trash when you get it as no motherboard uses 11.6 volts on the 12 volt.
- Drink lots of coffee and have patience.

Assembly of a basic system with 4 drives takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours for experienced builders.

I recommend paying the extra few bucks for an iStarUSA or SuperMicro case with PSU as you will be forking over extra money for a PSU anyway).

*** Additional warning *** -- NewEgg RMA shows "Unfortunately, our records indicate that the manufacturer's labor warranty for this product has expired. Please contact the product manufacturer for additional service options." -- So this is a buy-at-own-risk item with no warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you so very much for your review. Please allow us to fully address your comments.

1) It is true that, due to the chassis design, it requires a few additional steps for assembly. An experienced system assembler will be able to fully install the system within 15-20 minutes.
2) ACPC does not provide stripped screws for any of its products.
3) There has been a change to the PSU cable configuration recently. There is definitely a difference between an AP-MPS3ATX40 from last year and now. Y-cables are available at Newegg.com.
4) Your comment regarding PSU output is incorrect. It is indicated in this review that a 'high technical understanding' is present. However, Standard DC 12V Output parameters are between 11.4V~12.6V. The ACPC PSU is within Industry parameters as defined by Intel. Please contact our Customer Service for a link to the Intel ATX12V Power Supply Design Guide for your reference.
5) Although Newegg may indicate expiration of Manufacturer Warranty, we recommend any users to contact our Customer Service for direct Warranty support.

We do understand that some users may require additional assistance in the form of installation instructions, info as to which correct tool and tool size to use during assembly, and help to determine which PSU is correct for their specific system configuration. Should any users require info or assistance, we do highly recommend that the user contacts our Customer Service at service@athenapower.us or via landline at 626-810-5008. Thanks again!

1 out of 5 eggsNot a Professional Chassis

Pros: It's black.

Cons: Not designed for practical use. Four screws on the sides of cover, not a single one in the back. Drive bays are stacked and very difficult to install. Long, slender and magnetic screwdriver is needed to install. Power supply cable for MB is way too short! Not professional.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your review. The RM-3UD370S40 is designed for general entry-level server tasks. We do understand that, at times, it may be a challenge for the user when attempting to select a server case that meets their specific requirements. Should any user encounter an issue, or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact ACPC Customer Service at 626-810-5008 or service@athenapower.us. Thanks again!

Pros: Awesome case- great construction, plenty of room to work and all steel. Put in a 3 to 4 backplane and its running 8 2tb hd's in a freenas box.

Cons: main power cable is a bit short from the power supply to the MB

Other Thoughts: Buy it!!!
