1 out of 5 eggsLow quality

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black_Retail

Pros: Cheap

Cons: -Power supply died after only a little over 1 year light use
-Difficult to work with.
-Silly positioning of the power cable. Underneath the case?
-Feels very cheap overall. You get what you pay for.
-Very poor quality

Other Thoughts: I bought this thing in June 2013, and already the power supply died in early August 2014! Now I have to buy a whole new case, and rebuild the whole computer! What a nightmare!

3 out of 5 eggsOK Case

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black_Retail

Pros: The case is about what you paid for...
* Price
*Power Supply included

Cons: *Quality, The cover doesn't really close nicely a little bit crooked.
The 90 degree power cable was defective out of the box and didn't work at all.
Power supply should be relocated to allow nice horizontal box.
The front panel wire broke while plunging into motherboard, so had to fix myself.

Other Thoughts: Since there is no specified how many HDDs it hold..
If no DVD drive is used, it has two regular 3.5 drive bays+ 1 2.5 bay. I am running 60W AMD APU with 2x WD greens +1 2.5 laptop HDD with XBMC+web server+zoneminder+Ubuntu without any issues. So far PS is running fine and cool.

5 out of 5 eggsRebate

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black_Retail

Pros: I love this case, as it was cheap, the power supply works great for the A10-6800, fits the board perfectly, and had plenty of room for two hard drives plus an optional dvd player. Takes up little space, which was my reason for purchasing it as well. Perfect htpc/low cost gaming case.

Cons: The fan noise is a little high, but you can't hear it while gaming or playing movies. You could build an expensive custom water cooling loop, but its not worth it, and no closed loop would fit without serious modifications to the case. I have yet to receive my rebate yet, which is frustrating, since I filled out all the forms and sent in the UPC code piece from the case box, even though they'd slapped a shipping label over it. If I don't get it soon, I'm going to have to file a formal complaint, as the company website has no phone contact information.

3 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black_Retail

Pros: Great case for the money. The inclusion of USB 3.0 front panel port and USB2 card reader saves money. Pretty straightforward to set-up and configure.

Love the look, and the red color looks stunning if that's your thing. They certainly did a good job on the fit / finish.

It's a very small case also, if space is an issue; easily the smallest MicroATX case I've used that will still hold a 3.5" & 2.5" drive along with a 5.25" optical drive.

Cons: I have a real problem with companies that change components mid-product without altering the model number.

This is the third of these cases I've used, and the first two I gave rave reviews. The case was right at the top of my list for bang-for-buck ratio, but not so much any longer... why? The power supply used to be an okay "useable" unit, so you got value for your dollar.

The one included in this third case is a pile of garbage. Simply put. I always take apart the included power supplies in cases, because if they're junk, I toss them and put in something that will last. Voiding the warranty doesn't bother me; I wouldn't expect a no-name Chinese based company with no presence in the US to honor a warranty anyways.

The power supply in the first two cases wasn't great, but it was useable. It lacked input filtering of any decent quality (a definite negative), but at least it had okay components like a true rectifier bridge. I can always tell when PSU companies stoop to the "lowest of the low" because they omit the $2 rectifier bridge and substitute four $0.05 diodes instead.

The board is still silkscreened for the missing components (rectifier bridge, input choke / filter, etc.) but clearly they care more about cost vs quality.

Again, I'm not looking for a $30, high quality power supply. I'm looking for a sub-$10 cheapie with a rectifier bridge that I can put some semblance of faith into, and it doesn't even deliver that. I would have paid an extra $3 for the better PSU, saving myself $20 in having to buy and ship another one.

There are two plastic tabs which are rather fragile, so be real careful when placing your front panel on. If one of these two plastic tabs break, you're sunk. There's no other way to hold the front panel on. One side hinges (pretty solid), and the other snaps tight with those two plastic tabs.

Other Thoughts: With my "cons" in mind, I'm putting a lot of emphasis on the power supply in an otherwise great case. But that power supply makes all the difference between an outstanding value (which it used to be) and an ordinary case.

Why ordinary case? Because I consider this case now as having no included power supply (don't use it, unless you want your components fried-- Trust me, I've been in the PC / electronics industry and building PC's for 20+ years).

So now that you add the price of a power supply, you have a $65 case. That price puts you right in the neighborhood of other good cases with okay power supplies. So, not much to be said for it's great value any longer.

With that in mind, it's a good, attractive case. The red finish is gorgeous as is the whole exterior of the case. Looks every bit as good as your off-the-shelf Dell and HP and Gateway machines, in my opinion. Flimsy metal, but that's expected in this price range.

The power supply really sunk my opinion on this, if you couldn't tell. I was hoping for the "okay" power supply I received last time with the case.

1 out of 5 eggsPSU fan dying.

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black_Retail

Pros: Small case, not bad looking.

Cons: This case is made from really thin metal. The included PSU is going to fail in some way within 6 months. Now i have to replace it... should have just bought a decent case in the first place.

Other Thoughts: I've had it about 10 months now, the PSU fan is making an awful amount of noise and I'm generally disappointed in the purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsNice case!

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black_Retail

Pros: Lots of bang for your buck.
Very quiet in my opinion even with stock fan.
Comes with mount for SSD harddrive under dvdrom rack.

Cons: Still getting used to the location of the power supply although I knew that going in so not really a con.

Other Thoughts: No problems fitting anything below into this case.
My HTPC build (under $300):

AMD A6-5400K Trinity
MSI A88XM-E35
SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB
LG Internal Super Multi Drive SATA Model GH24NSB0
Crucial Ballistix 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black_Retail

Pros: Cheap.
Small.

Cons: Layout is very poor for cooling, you have air intakes RIGHT NEXT to both the power supply output fan area AND the case fan area. The air intake under the HD is nice, but the rest of the cooling is one of the worse setups I've ever seen.
PS is junk - it's supposed to be a 300 watt unit, but mine fried after 5 months and I never had more than 220 watts going INTO the unit per my Brand wattmeter - seems to be more of a 200 WATT actual rating PS at best.
Installing the HD is a royal PITA.
Cable management is a PITA.
Very little space inside, and not well thought out (unlike most Shuttles for example).

Other Thoughts: I would look elsewhere for a SFF case.
