1 out of 5 eggsWorst Case Ever

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Terrible Cooling, The power supply will die within a month

Other Thoughts: If you have the heart set on the case the fans arent very good but you cant use the power supply. Trash the psu as soon as you get this. The case is still bad and overheats when playing games.

1 out of 5 eggsNice, but PSU makes it worthless

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: Nice slim case, decent layout except for PSU placement. Slim size makes it very nice for HTPC style uses.

Cons: PSU placement is all the way at the front with an integrated cable running to the back. The PSU is cheap. Nearly started a fire. Cable placement in the PSU was smooshed up against components that heat up, so the cables melted, shorted and started sparking everywhere starting an electrical fire within the PSU. Pulled the PSU only to find it is a non-standard size and you can only get a replacement from XION which COSTS MORE THAN THE WHOLE CASE AND PSU COMBINED. Worthless. Nice little case is going in the trash because no PSU can fit in it.

5 out of 5 eggsI actually love it

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: Well its day 1, and i mean it wasnt DOA, so good good there. Also it fits, a 3.5in, 2.5in, and a ODD. so go figure its actually kinda cool. if you are handy you could mod it to fit a full size card in the case ( not kidding) well like 9in card but still.

Cons: um, well, it definitley is cheap, but not bad cheap. like it feels like a 40 dollar case all the way

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case!

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: It has room for an 2.5" SSD and a 3.5 HDD! The instructions are showing how to mount a 3.5" HDD under the ODD unit. I was planning to use only an SSD with the case because of the adverised one internal bay only but I ended up with an SSD for the OS and a 3.5 HDD for storage each with their own backets. The design seems quite good although servicing would take a lot of steps. Given the small form factor, this seems a perfect use of space.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: This is the second case I use for building a computer. For this buit I used an ASUS H81M-A Micro ATX Motherboard, a 4770K (it was cheaper than 4770) with standard cooler, a 256 GB Samsung Pro SSD, 2x8 GB Ram and no video card. So far it rocks!

2 out of 5 eggsDevil in the details

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: * Price
* USB-3 in Front Panel
* Red cover, my son had to have.

Cons: * Power Supply in a poor location
* 2 hour to modify case to get MB to fit and get room for connectors, SATA and USB-3 (MSI Z87M-G43 LGA 1150 Intel Z87)
* Tools needed to modify case, Hammer, Drill, Grinder & chisle

Other Thoughts: The power cord is located in a poor location, that would be the bottom of the case.
Mounting a 2.5" ssd was not easy.
This build was to have my 12 yearold son build his first computer. I was just going to coach him through the build. At least he got plenty of practice putting in th e MB and removing it as we mod-ed the case. Our 1 hr build turned into almost 4hrs.

***Make sure your MB will fit including your cables, before ordering this case.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: red sure looks nice, don't it?

Cons: 1. psu was DOA

2. lack of clearance for any expansion card
(note I used a mini itx board)
once the motherboard is secured into the base, if you try to insert a card into a slot what you'll find is that the metal back plate of the card is too thick to fit into place. i had to remove the metal back plate and even then the card caused the very back of the case to bulge out

Other Thoughts: AVOID

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: -Build quality improved from the last case I built
-Still hits a great price point (after rebate) for a computer with a mini-ITX footprint but using more widely available and cheaper micro-ATX components

Cons: -No space for multiple hard drives (unless sacrifice optical drive)
-Included 80mm fan is subpar
-Case is mostly designed to be used in upright configuration. Cooling is not optimal when case is put on its side, and power chord sticks out
-Can be fiddly to put in optical drive (see below)

Other Thoughts: I wrote a review on the black version of this case (titled "Was actually a lot of fun to build"- this is still true btw). This is my second case and I'll sum up some more things I've found:
-First off, I'm not sure if this is just a good batch that I got, but build quality on this case was much better than my first case. All the panels lined up together, and while the metal is still thin and sharp, I had no issues aligning the side panel and aligning anything on the back PCI slots, etc. Fit and finish was much better. In addition, the plastic 80mm fan cage seemed to be constructed of better (and thicker) plastic, and is much less fragile than before.
-This I went with a 3.5" instead of 2.5" hard drive that I used in my last case. I also added an optical hard drive. This put space at more of a premium. I had a bit of difficulty stuffing the wiring underneath the optical drive "cage" as I did last time, so I paid extra attention to zip-tying cables neatly together. Once I did this, putting everything back together was much more manageable. Still, I would recommend you put in a SSD or a 2.5" 7200 rpm hard drive if you don't require massive amounts of storage space so that you have more room to work with. Also: If you still use flat IDE cables, forget it, they're impossible to manage.
-Putting in the optical drive is a bit fiddly, because you need to slide it up to the faceplate at the correct distance so that the drive button operates correctly. There is a green arrow sticker on the side of the optical drive cage that will help you get the aprox. alignment. My suggestion would be to line up the screw hole on your optical drive with the arrow, and test fit by putting the cage in and faceplate on, before screwing things together.
-The last case I built, I put in my own 80mm fan because the included fan connects to Molex rather than a 3-pin motherboard connector. This time, I did use the included fan, and my conclusion is that it is too weak and does not move enough air for my >60TDP AMD processor and other components. Touching the case at spots, it is noticeably hot, and my monitoring software confirmed this. I replaced the stock fan with a higher RPM fan, which brought temps back down to acceptable levels. My suggestion is that since this system relies so heavily on that one fan to expel all the air, that you use your own high quality ball bearing high rpm fan in place of the included one. The airflow design is actually quite good as all the heat expels through the top (and PSU heat expels through the bottom), but the stock fan sucks.

Overall I'd say that with the build quality improvements, this case is very appealing with the mail in rebate. Just remember to replace the fan!

3 out of 5 eggsLooks great, nightmare to service

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: This case is pretty compact. I am a fan of this size for small, moderate workload PCs. It is attractive looking, I think, with almost a game console type of appearance going on. The case is well at home on a desk or entertainment center.

Cons: This case is very....cozy inside to put it mildly. The hard drive mounting is a joke and took me forever to figure out. You can't do any work on it without popping off the front cover and removing this large framework that takes up the front of the thing. That framework, by the way, is made of the flimsiest excuse for metal I've ever seen! Be very careful with it and it should be fine but mine warped on the first try putting it back in because it needed slightly firm pressure.

The case doesn't seem to cool very efficiently but I'll admit I was going for a "tiny terror" low-end gaming build with a big fat APU in it so that could be poor judgement on my part.

If silence is important to you, the fans get loud.

Other Thoughts: The case is decent for the price, attractive to look at and (if you're patient) more than adequate for most anything you can put in it. It is however loud, and cheap always bear that in mind.

2 out of 5 eggsVery Fragile

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: Nice feature set; stylish

Cons: Incredibly flimsy case. With virtually no visible damage to the shipping package, I was somewhat shocked when the thing starting spewing broken bits all over when I slid it out. Obviously it didnt take much for this case to get mangled in shipping. The front panel in particular seems to be made of a plastic that does a fine impersonation of peanut brittle. The "metal" underneath, meanwhile, seems partial to aluminum foil, albeit not as strong! Ah well, viva el RMA

2 out of 5 eggsHow did no one else have this Problem!!!

This review is from: XION XON-720P mATX/ ITX Slim Desktop Case, USB 3.0, 5 in 1 Card-reader, 300W PSU, Black/RED_Retail

Pros: Read This Whole review before buying
The red is cool.
Looks like a great machine especially with long antennae on the network card.
The power cord placement is great if you are standing it up with the feet. But if you have to use the feet this really isn't so slim is it.
If they had allowed for room around the sata plugs it would be a great case for any thing that doesn't need a current high-end graphics card. even though I got 2GB it has a GT610 core which doesn't need the cooling of a full size card.

Cons: This case has a huge issue and I mean huge
How did no one else have this problem.***
The Case States MicroATX compatible.
Having space for a MicroATX board does not make it compatible. Nearly all Motherboards now have the SATA 3 socket coming out sideways and in this case the power supply is right there with absolutely no Room for the actual plugs or cables even with the 90degree turn.
I needed to crank out at least one computer that day so I made a large number of modifications to get it all to work I had to use the 90 degree plug on the sata3 that went into the power supply. I unscrewed the power supply and tried to shift it side ways still not enough room had to adjust the bent metal front frame and push it as far sideways then the 90degree just fit but it pointed down into the frame so had to squeeze it down and to the right would have worked better if the 90 degrees brought it up instead of down.
But I have no future access to any of the sata side ports unless I completely disassemble the case or take up the Motherboard.
Further the case openings on the back that you have to breakout your self to allow PCI cards to fit only take low profile(not mentioned by anyone) And don't line up well with the cards. and screw holes are on the wrong side for most cards(why has this not been standardized. Graphic card had left side screw and the Rosewill network card had a right side screw. Ordered 3 will call to send back 2 since they don't truly support MicroATX
Only has 2 sata power plugs and a 4 pin instead of 8pin 12v addition.

Other Thoughts: Made an awesome set up 8GB Ram, an Adata SATA3 256Gb SSD Drive with an AsRock Z77 extreme 4-M, Rosewill N330 card and a low profile Galaxy GT610 with 2GB and last but not least i5-3350P.
The asrock board instantly over clocks it from 3.1GHZ to 3.7GHz.
This Puppy flies, of course funny part is even with an SATA# SSD the hard drive is still the worst portion on the windows experience index lol.
Can't comment on the PSU durability because only used mine for 3 days so far but man is it major fast.
