Great Niche Product
- Pros: A truly silent case
Sturdy construction Looks very slick Perfect on-all-the-time solution
- Cons: Very expensive
Harder to assemble than usual Not great for gaming or case modding Not good for high maintenance PCs
- Other Thoughts: About 18 months ago I assembled a home server, with this Zalmann TNN 300, for remote file access and version control. My objective was a low power, on-all-the-time, low maintenance, ZERO NOISE core2 server.
Assembly was more involved than usual, but I chose to use the onboard video chip so I didn't need to install the custom video heat pipes.
The server has been on for almost 18 months straight and I've never had to open it up. The only time it makes noise is when the harddrive seeks, but even that is really soft. The fins on the case are always slightly warmer than room temp, but not by much.
Also the case looks sort of like a mini tie-fighter, in a good way!
Be prepared
- Pros: Perfectly silent, sturdy construction, heatsink supports multiple CPU types
- Cons: When any part of it fails, you COMPLETLELY rely on Zalman for repairs - my power supply failed after about 5 months...well, it's proprietary and not user serviceable...so be aware that if this thing breaks, you may be without a PC for 2 weeks or more while your parts arrive from Zalman. Also, the front USB is only 1.1, not 2.0.
- Other Thoughts: I'd buy it again, but you have to be mentally prepared to be without a computer if any parts fail.
this case is sweet!
- Pros: to be honest, i don't own one of these, but i have don TONS of research on them. these are one of the most unique designs around. they are pricy, but think about this: this is the power supply, ALL the heat sinks, and more. do the math: CPU heat sink $50, GPU sink $40, comparable PS $60-70, average matx case $90-100, couple of quiet fans $20. you are in the ballpark of $300ish to get even remotely close to this, and it still won't compare. this case is pretty sweet, and think bout the shere heat disipation you get! ice cold running components! that alone is worth it.
- Cons: ya, i know it's is pricy, but by the time you work out all the prices, it's not really loads more expensive than a different case solution.
- Other Thoughts: BTW, just some more food for thought- this case isn't air-tight, but a case like this without fans and limited air-access means that your components wil stay pretty clean.
