5 out of 5 eggsGreat all around case

Pros: Great case for the price. Has good airflow and makes cable management fairly easy. The charging port on the front is a nice addition, as are the 4usb ports on the front. It also looks really nice. I haven't had any trouble with the usb ports or anything not working properly.

Cons: Front fan space is 180mm, weird size for a case fan. The mic and headphone outputs are not attached properly, so for the headphone i have to plug it into the mic and vice versa for the mic.

1 out of 5 eggsFront panel USB problems continue

Pros: Good cable management space and air flow. Nice looking case design, inside and out.

Cons: Same problems as reported by Les in other reviews. One USB 2 port on the front panel (left of Audio jacks) was dead on two separate new cases.

Other Thoughts: I just bought one of these cases at a local computer store because the sale price was great for the size and ports that I wanted. When I discovered the USB issue, I took it back in and they swapped out the faceplate for me. Same problem occurred. At this point we did a customer review search and found Les reporting the same thing here from a few months back.

I ended up buying a different brand case instead, and the shop I had bought this case from is now looking at returning their affected stock of these units.

1 out of 5 eggsFactory REPLACEMENT defective

Pros: UPS did not harm the original nor the replacement parts and case.

Cons: MSI blew this deal badly. I retract any good things I had to say about them in my last review. See a copy of my reply to them, below.

Hello, MSI Support Team.

I regret to tell you that, although the shipment arrived unscathed by the UPS resident gorilla, this case was defective in the identical fashion to the first I received from Newegg. This case has the very same defect in the faceplate circuit board.

When the case, Model IN-602, EAN # 4 712523-621865 arrived, I unpacked it immediately and checked it over. Everything was there and was undamaged.

I then dismounted the side panels, the top panel, and the front panel to inspect the circuit board of the front panel. It looked to me to be identical to the previous two (original case from Newegg and replacement faceplate from MSI), so I brought out my digital VOM and checked the continuity from the USB 2.0 port data trace and the grounding pin of the headphone jack. (continued below)

Other Thoughts: There is a dead short between them, meaning of course that this USB 2.0 port will not work just as the previous two instances would not work.

Despite your assurances that you were aware of the problem and that you were "in the process of replacing these units and ensuring none return into the channel," I got another junk case.

This is deplorable. I must now return to my self-imposed moratorium of buying no more MSI products, and I must return to Newegg and post an account of this dismal failure of your MSI Support Team to counteract the glowing review I gave you for being so honest and forthcoming.

I cannot close by saying nice things about doing business with you. This has been a total disaster and a complete waste of my time and effort.

Les Morgan

I aplogize to any Newegg readers who have been misled during this farce by my praise of MSI. --- Les

4 out of 5 eggsAdditional information to Les's review

Pros: MSI has contacted me and is replacing the defective IN-602 case I received. Here's the text of their message:
Hello Les,

We apologize for the defective case you received from Newegg and hope to rectify the situation for you.
Please provide us a shipping address so we can send you a replacement unit immediately.

We are aware of the problem with the PCB soldering in a very small batch of cases and we are in the process of replacing these units and ensuring none return into the channel. We are very proud of this case and do not want this minor incident to ruin your experience with the MSI Interceptor Series chassis.

In the future, please use this e-mail for questions regarding support for MSI Computer Cases as instructed on the MSI warranty page

MSI Computer Case Support Team

Cons: I had to be a really squeaky wheel to get greased.

Other Thoughts: I'm impressed that MSI openly admits knowing some of these cases got into the supply channel with defects. Imagine how much better off we'd be if Congressmen and Senators were so straightforward and honest!

I'm a happy camper again. My self-imposed Ban on MSI purchases is hereby lifted.

2 out of 5 eggsNot surprised this is "deactivated"

Pros: All those attributes listed by other reviewers. Mine was a reasonably easy build, even with replacing ALL case fans and adding a couple more. This could have been a "five egg" case. But....

Cons: I could never get the USB 2.0 port to left of audio jacks to work. Hours of troubleshooting told me the problem was in the circuit board that holds all the USB jacks and the audio jacks. I contacted MSI, and they were kind enought to send a new faceplate complete. Before installing it, I plugged the USB 2.0 header into my motherboard, powered up, and BINGO! All USB 2.0 jacks worked perfectly. Not so after I installed then new faceplate; I was right back in the soup with the USB 2.0 jack to the left of audio jacks NOT working. More hours of troubleshooting, and in desperation I tried unplugging the audio header from the motherboard. Viola, the USB 2.0 ports now all worked perfectly! After some headscratching, I dismounted the faceplate, and did a detailed inspection of the circuit board that holds all USB jacks and audio jacks. I found that the outer sleeve for the earphone jack is soldered, due to poor design, to one of the data traces of the USB 2.0 port on the rear face.

Other Thoughts: (continued) There is too little clearance to desolder the trace, so I elected to use a rotary tool and cutoff disk to slit the board about 0.010" deep, breaking the connection (you can use a good VOM to find the short on the data trace). Now all circuits work as designed. I duplicated the fix on the circuit board on the original faceplate, with the same positive result. I sealed both boards with a bit of epoxy, and one is in service now. I also contacted MSI, using the same series of messages used to obtain the replacement faceplate, and did not receive any reply (I waited and watched a week hoping for that reply). I'm really disappointed because it's rather clear to me the manufacturer knows what this problem is, and sold off these cases quickly to avoid being embarrassed and to avoid taking a loss on recall. Shameful, and guarantees I'll never do business with them again.

I'll also be amazed if this review gets past the censors.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent airflow and cable management

Pros: Excellent airflow: 2x120mm fans on top, 2x120mm bottom, 1x120mm rear, 2x140mm side, and 120/140/[200mm] front.

The cable management is simple and excellent.

Very aesthetically pleasing interior, especially when matched with blue gskill RAM.

The top is rubberized, but not the kind that shows every fingerprint.

Cons: There is the punchouts and screw holes for a 200mm fan in the front of the case, but it won't actually fit due to the lip of the case and the side walls. Some creative work with a dremel to the case and both sides of the case fixed that for me, so it was a nonissue.

The electric-blue interior of the case is the best looking of any case I have ever seen, but there is no option for a side window.

Other Thoughts: Amazing case overall; I couldn't be happier with my purchase

3 out of 5 eggsMissing From Package...

Pros: -Nice finish on case
-Plenty of room for oversized Video Cards
-Plenty of fan mounting points
-Decent room to manage wires behind the motherboard tray.
-Good for the price.

Cons: Bad packaging...
When the box arrived the "survival package" was not inside the box. So it arrived with no screws, owners manuel, or Dog tag.
Wouldn't be a huge deal if it came with the motherboard mounting screws already on the tray.
I really hope Newegg or MSI will be nice and send them to me... But I'm still waiting for a response.

Other Thoughts: I probably would have given this a 4 or maybe 5 egg review if theses parts came in with it. I guess I just got unlucky, but I can't even mount my motherboard without having to spend more money.

Manufacturer Response:
