4 out of 5 eggsGood Case

Pros: Great Value for cost
6 x 3.5 Hot Swap
Lockable Face
Sturdy Case
Good Ventilation
Pretty Quiet with stock fans

Cons: HDD Bay vent's up, so stacking one directly on top of another isn't a good idea. This really isn't a CON, but some might think so.
Backplane is fragile. But just take your time and don't use force and you will be just fine.
Drive bay locks are molded plastic. Sometimes they don't lock right from the factory because of the overspill from the mold. I have had many of these cases and it doesn't take much time to shave the excess of with a xacto blade. Once you trimmed it they work like a charm.

Other Thoughts: First review I ever wrote, had to review because I believe these will no longer be available. I will be saddened to see them go. Defiantly my favorite case for the money. Dollar for dollar, with a little TLC and some patience, one of the best decisions I made and hope to make again.

3 out of 5 eggsGood case, great price, but...

Pros: Price, decent construction, accessories

Cons: Won't hold a full length PCI card, ventilation, goofy hot swap trays

In general, getting spare parts is tough. This is a general Habey/Norco issue. Lose/break a tray and you're stuck, but they are very good about including enough accessories and spares that it has only been a problem with a single broken tray in 6 chassis.

Funny hot-swap trays are tough to get a drive in and out of, and makes the cage too deep to fit a full length PCI card.

I have 6 habey/norco cases in service, so clearly I'm a loyal customer. I love their cases, just not this one.

Other Thoughts: This chassis is exactly the same chassis as the RPC-910, only this chassis has the 6x hot-swap cage. Having owned both (and returned this one), it seems just a little poorly planned.

I will agree with zort15 that ventilation is lacking a bit. I've had the 910 in service for 5 years now with no significant cooling issues, but it is a low power/heat machine. Then again, that machine just failed (and this was the replacement for it) so I can't say one way or the other with certainty. It did have one of the optional rear fans in it, but if you were to stick a pair of high-end xeons in this thing, you might have some real issues. Add 6 drives and a machine directly above it and it's tough to imagine that this could possibly cool efficiently.

The optional fans are only up to 2 60mm fans.

Again, I'm not saying this is a terrible case, just don't put too much hardware in it and a machine directly above it in the rack.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat SOHO server case.

Pros: Six 3.5" hot-swappable hard drive bays.
Three 5.25" external bays (where you could put another 5 bay drive cage)
One floppy bay (I put a spare card reader in it)
Construction is solid,
I'm able to secure my 3/4 length RAID controller so it no longer droops like in my old case
I'm surprised that the case isn't that noisy given the smallish 80mm fans. I can't hear it outside the wiring closet. I wouldn't want it out in the open, but it's not as noisy as the "proper" servers at work.

Cons: The documentation is lacking/non-existent. This was the reason for dropping one star. Now most of this is self-explanatory to someone with experience with Servers, but at the price point this is at it's likely to attract SOHO users with less tech savvy who'd need the manual.

Other Thoughts: I've got this mounted on a vertical rack, so it's now parallel to the wall in my wiring closet freeing up some floor space . Given the properties of convection, I needed to flip the fans around to blow cool air into the case around the processor (now at the bottom), and also at the drive cage so as to blow warmer air out and up since they're now facing up.

It's important to buy the right case for your needs. This case isn't well suited for stacking in a rack with bunch of other servers due to the fan placement, but it's ideally suited for vertical racks, or small wall mount racks for SOHO usage.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible air flow

Pros: Six 3.5" hot-swappable hard drive bays.
Tall motherboard offsets give lots of room for cable routing under motherboard.
Construction feels solid

Cons: Really, really poor air flow. No front air intake, most air exhausts out the top
Some sharp edges.
Lots of different non-standard screws.
Cramped layout for full ATX motherboard.
Removal of front left case foot requires disassembly of the hard drive bays.

Other Thoughts: My biggest complaint about this case is the air flow. There are no front intake fans on this case, and with the stock fan configuration, there were no intake fans at all. For a rackmount case, I would have expected to see air intakes on the front of the case and exhaust on the back, but it appears that it is designed to exhaust air through the top, which is something to keep in mind if you are going to stuff this in a rack with other equipment directly above it. The way they designed the PCB for the hard drives blocks all air flow in to the case from the hard drive bays, so if you do want to bring in air through the front, you will have to sacrifice some 5.25" bays. Also, The two stock fans on the top toward the back are also configured to be exhaust fans when you get them, meaning they will work against your CPU cooler, but the openings in that part of the lid are so small it makes little difference.

Manufacturer Response:

This case has been on the market for more than 6 years. No complaints on air flow as of now, including long term system integrator customers ordering by pallets. Ventilation can be improved by adding two optional rear fans if the included fans can not provide enough air flow.
