The award winning Define R3 combines minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range. This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming/enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R3 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent System provides three 5.5”X 5.5” panels which also have noise absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, and anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

The cleverly designed, (8) white HDD trays, with black silicone mounting grommets, can be used for 3.5” HDDs or SSDs. The spacious sleek black interior can support graphic cards up to 290 mm and CPU coolers up to 165mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to 7 fans with removable filters to provide airflow from 5 sides of the case. The case also includes several rubber grommeted routing holes and extended cable space behind the M/B mounting plate which allow for efficient cable management. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply which can be easily removed for cleaning.

It's easy to see why this case has won so many awards; the attention to detail, clever design, high-performance features, understated yet elegant style, quality workmanship, and unparalleled value, put the Define R3 in a class of its own.

  • newegg OPTIMIZED FOR NOISE REDUCTION The case includes dense, noise absorbing materials on the front, top and side panels.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet

Pros: This case is very quiet, I can have all my fans with the exception of my graphics card running at 100% and it I can not even hear it. The overall build quality is great, a very solid design. The dust filters are a very nice feature, I have had the case for around 6 months now and there is almost no dust in the case. I do have to clean off the filters every once and a while but it is not that difficult.

Cons: There is not a lot of extra room behind the motherboard tray to run wires. The power button light is a fairly bright, at least in my dorm room.

Other Thoughts: When I got the case the back lower two thumb screw areas were bent in but i believe this was the shipping companies fault. It was not enough to make me send the case back but it is a little annoying some times.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat quality, very quiet

Pros: -solid black w/ subtle blue power LED looks fantastic
-you can tell it is very high quality by just holding one of the side pannels; it is very solid and well constructed
-VERY quiet - I installed an extra 120mm in the front and in the top, and even under full load it stay cool and hardly audible
-easy to remove dust filters on all the intakes

Cons: would be nice if the hinges of the front door could be switched, but this is just nitpicking

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: It is quiet. Having sideways facing hard drives is great. It looks good.

Cons: No hard disk activity LED. The space for cable routing should be about a quarter inch wider so the motherboard power cable isn't pressed hard against the side panel. The hole for routing the motherboard 12-volt connector is located too close to the front of the case so my cable wouldn't reach.

Other Thoughts: I bought (APEVIA 26.5" HDD LED and Power LED cables) to get a hard disk activity LED.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful, wonderful case

Pros: -Beautiful exterior
-Internal soundproofing
-Extensive cable-management options
-Tool-free, hot-swap HDD/SDD cages
-Wonderful internal cable management tools
-Large, efficient silent fans, with included fan controller.

Cons: -The perpendicular "PCI" slot is mounted in a way that–if one places anything there (I have a header-mounted USB bracket there, for example), that part will needed to be removed in order to access the PCI slots below. In addition, since the thread for this bracket adjoins the rear exhaust, if you have a fan mounted in the case's rear, you'll need to remove the fan, then remove this PCI bracket, then access the brackets below. It's a bit tricky if you need to swap out or add another card.

-No HDD activity light. But now that I think of it, maybe I don't miss it. Heck, maybe the HDD activity light--much like the PS/2 and parallel ports, has gone the way of the dodo...

-A bit larger than I'd like for an HTPC/micro-ATX case: it's essentially the same width and depth as a standard ATX mid-tower, but slightly shorter. Still, you should be able to model what you're getting based on their quoted dimensions

Other Thoughts: This is really a wonderful case; a pleasure to work with and a pleasure to look at. If you're on the market for a small(er) silent (*silent*-paired with my Antec Kuhler and OCZ modular PSU, I can barely here the thing with the fans at full blast.) case with a pure, sleek aesthetic, look no further. It'll be hard taking your eyes off it, frankly.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome case/design/build

Pros: Dead silent (so much internal padding, love it), cable management in the front side is beautiful. Standard/easy computer build. Flawless case, sleek, classy, well built. Case comes with extra screws and everything you need. Would buy again!

Cons: None. Worth every penny!

Other Thoughts: Came with a broken fan (due to shipping) Gave them a call (ryan) and they Imediately offered to send me a new one! Great customer service, you get what you pay for!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome case!

Pros: Beautiful case, has good aesthetic. Room for everything I need and more. Black inside, way better than old case. Quiet fans.

Cons: I experienced a clicking noise during audio playback when I had power supply cables routed through hdd cage area at first. It went away after I rearranged the cables differently. Very odd occurrence.

Other Thoughts: Love Fractal Design and will continue to go to them first for case needs.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy I chose the Define R3

Pros: It arrived in great condition even though the box took a beating. Case is very rugged, discrete, quiet and roomy (see my specs below). Filters work great (had to clean one of them already). Look forward to owning this case for a long time!

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Specs:

Biostar TZ68A+
Core i5 2400
Xigmatek Loki SD963 cooler (keeps cpu 19 degrees cooler than stock Intel)
Zotac GeForce GT 430 Zone edition (fanless)

Didn't add any fans to the case (using 2 stock), and it stays quiet and cool, even while folding for a few hours at a time (55 celsius max, 38 idle).

4 out of 5 eggsPretty nice

Pros: The case is fairly roomy, lots of sound dampening material, nice cable routing cutouts, sleek design, and allows for a lot of fans should you want them. The case is pretty quiet and I think it looks pretty good.

Cons: No usb 3.0 support (Fractal says theyre going to sell a $10 front panel USB 3.0 upgrade kit however) and the rubber grommet things fall off kinda easily. The cable management holes could be a little bigger/have better placement but YMMV since its going to depend on your motherboard.

Other Thoughts: System Specs:
Asus P8Z68-v Pro
Intel i7 2600k @ 4.5Ghz
Corsair 8GB DDR3 1600
1TB Samsung Spinpoint
Corsair H70
