The Define series is reaching new heights in combining stylish, contemporary design with maximum functionality and noise absorbing features. The minimalistic, yet stunning front panel design, fitted with noise absorbing material on the inside, creates an aura of exclusivity.

As the name implies, Define Mini is the smaller sibling of the acclaimed and award winning Define R4 case. Being a micro ATX version of Define R4, it offers a number of interesting functions with a very stylish appearance. It's a case focused on low noise level, without neglecting other important features such as cooling, expandability and ease of use. The Define Mini excels in including a lot of features in a small size!

The patent pending feature ModuVent™, in which you can choose whether to have fan slots in side and top panels open or not, makes the case appealing for users seeking optimal silence, as well as the performance hungry ones.

The sleek black interior is matched with pre-fitted, dense noise absorbing material on the side panels, efficiently absorbing noise and vibrations. You can fit an astonishing total of six hard drives into this case, using the user friendly HDD-trays. All painted in a nice white color and using black silicone mounts. PSU is mounted in the bottom of the case, with a convenient pull-out filter beneath it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, Hopefully an R2 is in the works.

Pros: It has an excellent design, very good build quality and is silent.

Cons: I wish the fan grills were more flush with the rest of the case, their appearance now is reminiscent of a cheese grater.

3 out of 5 eggsI so want to love this case...

Pros: It's gorgeous... the silent paneling is a nice touch, and the layout is 90% there, aside from a few niggles.

I would definitely use this case again if it were for someone not using extra video cards, and that didn't need extra fans.

Cons: The motherboard support cutout is 3/4" too high to use, this should come down to about the first addon slot.

The area behind the motherboard is too cramped, had to reroute my main mb power cable in the front, as it wouldn't fit behind, as it is, could really use an extra 1/2" here

No support for 240mm radiator, and 120 only works in top position. I used an H55, and could only mount it in the top position, and even then it blocked the release for the EPS connector.

The "SSD" screws included are too long, and didn't mount properly... fortunately, I had other SSD screws to use.

The tool for the motherboard standoffs was about useless, and difficult to use.

Other Thoughts: If the case were 1/2" wider (with room behind the motherboard) and maybe an inch taller, or deeper so a 240mm water cooler could be mounted in one of those positions it would be a nearly perfect case, as it stands, don't use this if you are water cooling.

The fan controller should be changed to support PWM 4-pin connectors, had to cut the side off to be able to connect my fans. Also, while the intended fan controller slot is a nice addition, it really doesn't function well, the rear fan blocks the access, which I needed pliers to remove the screw it was so tight, and the cables really don't have a place to go except over the top of the power supply.

Also, with the variety of screws, it would be nice if they were bagged separately.

- msi z97m-G43
- i7-4790k
- corsair h55
- 32gb ddr-1600
- msi GTX-970 4G
- 4x 480gb ssd (seagate 850 evo)
- CM CX-600M PSU
- 4x CM Jetflow fans

All in all, it was a nice, if somewhat frustrating build.

3 out of 5 eggsQuiet, some design problems

Pros: Good looking

Cons: Cables inside front panel are too short, interfere with installing optical drives.

Other Thoughts: Its quiet, conservative looking, but has some design issues that give me pause.

5 out of 5 eggsHighly expandable storage bays

Pros: Nice paint job, inside and out.
Quiet (depending on number of fans and rpm of said fans, but still quiet on the outside due to insulation)
Highly expandable internal drive bays.
Great for a micro ATX or mid form factor gaming or home server build.
Nice cable cutouts.
No faulty parts or ports with my order.

Cons: Some rust on the internal drive bays' (unpainted) metal. The case was probably sitting in a Newegg warehouse for a while, or otherwise exposed to moisture for some months. Not worth dropping an Egg.
Holds in heat more than some other cases, due to the audio dampening foam insulation.
Internal foam insulation can tear off if you are not careful (glue it back in place, not a real problem).

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Case

Pros: Amazingly quiet. Even when the fans are blowing, it's as quiet as most towers are at idle.

Cons: The blue light is a dying sun, but it's not worth knocking a egg off. This case does exactly what I wanted it to do.

Other Thoughts: A few of my friends have asked me "is this thing really on?" when I was showing them my new build.

5 out of 5 eggsYes

Pros: Purchased two years ago to hold a home server. It looks great, was easy to build in, and is relatively quiet. I'm thinking of purchasing this again for other builds as well.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsThe design of the case is awesome, but...

Pros: This is actually a *very* nice case. It really looks SLICK. If you have any doubts, you should watch the video all the way through.

I bought this case because I am planning to replace my old HTPC case (Silverstone LC-17) with a mini tower that I'll have on a small shelf mounted under a mounted big screen TV. I plan to regain about 2 feet of room in this process of doing away with the TV stand.

This two biggest selling points to me with this case:

1. It's built to be quiet. Real quiet. There's a ton of sound dampening material in the frame of this case, yet it still gives you the flexibility to do other things with it, such as adding more (or different) cooling or add a lot more storage.

2. Wait until you get into the later half of the video. You'll see something interesting; at least it was very interesting to me. This case was built with the thought process that the person using it might go through multiple processors, multiple methods of cooling, and multiple mainboards before they move on to a newer case years later. In particular, they have a cut out area under the mainboard where you can EASILY access the mounting mechanism for the processor heatsink. This means you NO LONGER need to remove the mainboard completely to try a different heat sink and fan or add water cooling. When I saw that, all I could say is "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"

Cons: The one negative... It cost a egg in rating. I apologize to those that may deem this unfair, but there's a dent in the side panel and the front bezel of the case doesn't fit *quite* flush with the rest of it. I don't know if this was caused by shipping or by NewEgg's handling of it. The truth is, there was a LOT of packing material to protect the insides, so someone in the packing/shipping process was really rough with it if that's what happened. I don't know if the side panel can be replaced, but I do know I would not like paying to return the panel I have.

NewEgg doesn't allow half-egg ratings, so a full egg had to be taken for this displeasure.

Other Thoughts: I find it very difficult to see how anyone can really go wrong selecting this case. If you can find it on sale, it's a no-brainer

1 out of 5 eggsQuality Control Was Asleep on the Job

Pros: Bought this on sale $50, was a good deal,....so i thought.

Cons: Product was completely busted up.

1) Clear bezel around the power button is cracked to pieces.
2) Power button itself is busted off and had to be fished out of the bag.
3) Front drive doors that lead to the fans will not stay closed.
4) Plastic side pieces that run down the front bezel have pieces broken off.
5) Headphone and microphone jack receptacles have fallen inside the case.

The box it arrived in looks fine, so i'm inclined to not blame this on UPS, but instead on terrible QA.

Other Thoughts: Incredibly disappointed in Fractal Design. First case i have bought from them, and it will be most likely be my last. Now i'm going to have to fight with Newegg about an RMA and delay my build for a week.

Spend the extra money, and get a case from a more reputable manufacturer like Antec.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Phillip,

We're sorry to hear that the front panel on your Define Mini is broken. It is possible that the box was dropped just right so that the front panel inside was damaged without leaving any noticeable damage to the box itself. Included with all of our cases there is a red piece of paper that has the contact information to our Technical Support Team. If you have lost that piece of paper you can contact us by submitting a ticket at:

https://support.fractal-design.com

You can also call our toll free number : 855-446-3722

Our office hours are Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm CT.

Please contact our Tech Support Team and they should be able to assist you in getting a replacement front panel for your case.

Best Regards,
Fractal Design Support

5 out of 5 eggsSmall package, high quality

Pros: Everything I've come to expect from Fractal Design. Well built, solid, plenty of convenience features.

Cons: Its kinda heavy, being made of steel will do that. The moniker 'Mini' is kinda a poor moniker; its only a couple inches shorter than the Define R4 I bought in 2013.

Other Thoughts: Still great case.
