The award winning Define R3 with USB 3.0 combines minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalled value in this price range. This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming/enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R3 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent System provides three 5.5”X 5.5” panels which also have noise absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, and anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

The cleverly designed, (8) white HDD trays, with black silicone mounting grommets, can be used for 3.5” HDDs or SSDs. The spacious sleek black interior can support graphic cards up to 290 mm and CPU coolers up to 165mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to 7 fans with removable filters to provide airflow from 5 sides of the case. The case also includes several rubber grommeted routing holes and extended cable space behind the M/B mounting plate which allow for efficient cable management. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply which can be easily removed for cleaning.

It's easy to see why this case has won so many awards; the attention to detail, clever design, high-performance features, understated yet elegant style, quality workmanship, and unparalled value, put the Define R3 in a class of its own.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

Pros: -Pretty Quiet
-Looks Great IMO (No flashy lights or windows)
-good cable management

Cons: minor cons:

-bottom dust filter is tricky to remove/replace
-rubber surrounds on cable management holes tend to fall out easily
-I needed to add another fan for airflow

Other Thoughts: Really like this case, especially the monolithic looks it has. It's super quiet, unless you add more fans like I did, Plus it seems to be built pretty sturdy. A pretty great buy at 110$

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Case!

Pros: Very clean cut case. no nonsense just quality. the sound deadening material is great, very quiet. fan filters are amazing. i can make one can of air last for months when i would use a full can each cleaning on my antec 900. cable management is very good, plenty of room. lots of little details by fractal.

Cons: stock fans kinda suck. fan filters are a little hard to take out in front. i just take a little brush to them and finish with air.

Other Thoughts: would have prefered all black hdd treys and pci slot covers but no big deal. would be sweet if front door was real brushed aluminium.

4 out of 5 eggsWould buy again

Pros: * Well-built and reasonably priced.

* No lights or neon plastic.

* Two external bays.

* The insulation helps suppress noise.

* The Noctua NH-D14 fits - but just barely with my current motherboard. The tops leaves marks in the insulation.

* The included fans are fairly quiet.

* Useful ports on top.

* OK cable management (see cons).

Cons: Minor --- The grommets really are terrible.

Other Thoughts: Would buy again

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: I am extremely pleased with this case. It really is quite quiet. The included fans are very quiet and move a decent amount of air. The "moduvent" system is unobtrusive and really does help. Airflow is not impeded either. The intake on the front is extremely effective.

Build quality was high as well. I visually inspected the entire thing and found only a few minor scratches. The cable management is also great, with many spaces to route cables through, as well as plenty of places for zip ties.

The outside is visually minimalistic yet stunning, but you can gather that from pictures. What you can't father is that the door is very well made. The outside also cleans well (used a simple microfibre cloth with generic surface cleaner). I did find the glossy front to attract a fair bit of dust, but that is to be expected.

Cons: All of these are extremely minor annoyances, but they were:

- The small foam pads on the front-bottom came off very easily when slid the case across a rug floor. Easily reattached firmly with some gorilla glue.

- Motherboard mounts had no rubber standoffs. Honestly, this isn't a big deal, but I was sortof expecting that.

- Only enough screws for one 2.5" HDD/SSD mount,

- Dust filter on bottom slides out extremely easily. I scraped my arm when I first picked the case up and it slid out, my grip slipping in the process.

- Rubber padding on inside cable-management slots is detachable. Not really a big deal either, but required some extra care. It does make them easily replaceable and cleanable, which makes it worth it.

- Slide-out HDD racks felt flimsy. They aren't actually flimsy, they just felt that way. I would have rather there had been some sort of rubber stop, creating a bit more friction sliding them in, giving it a "hefty" feel.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this is a great case. Definitely worth the money. There are a few minor annoyances, but they are incredibly minor. This case is plenty big and sports great features. I highly recommend it.

3 out of 5 eggsGoog case, but

Pros: - Very good looking case
- Lots of options for additional fans (you can install up to 7 120mm fans in total)
- Quiet

Cons: - Side panels are a nightmare to remove and put back on. If you're going to open your computer on a regular basis with often hardware upgrades and tweaks, avoid this case.
- HDD trays are flimsy and bend easily
- Rubber cable grommets fall out when you put cables through them
- Blue power on the front led is way too bright

2 out of 5 eggsNot the greatest building experience.

Pros: Pretty solid build. The cable management holes are well placed, and there's plenty of room for everything.

I guess I was a bit reluctant to only have 2 3.5" drive slots, but I'm only going to ever likely use 1 of them anyway.

The sound dampening works wonderfully. I can't even tell that the thing is turned on unless my fans really start to spin up.

The dust filters are something that's a MUST HAVE for me now. Honestly these things help a ton. My last case had similar and I only had to blow out the insides twice in 3 years.

The fans that they do include are really really quiet, also.

Cons: - The reset button is under the door so you don't accidentally press it. The power button is not, and is VERY easily pressed where it is, which can be a downside. Especially with a cat that likes to sit on your computer tower.

- The rubber grommets that cover all of the cable management holes and such are honestly pretty poorly sized. They are all very very loose, and fall out upon any incidental contact. I removed most of them when I was doing my cable management and did not replace them. Same goes for the WC holes on the back of the case, but I'm not using them so for now the grommets stay.

- The doors are of a very very old design. I built a computer 12 years ago that had better doors. If you utilize the cable management area very much at all the door on that side will be very hard to put on indeed. The slot and tab design without a glide rail means that the doors are quite hard to put on, and do not stay in position properly without thumbscrews.

- Needs more fa

Other Thoughts: Other cons...

- The feet are too flimsy, one broke on me while building. I superglued it back on, but it doesn't look real strong.

- Unless something with my mobo is wonky, the front panel audio and mic jacks don't work.

5 out of 5 eggsfantastic

Pros: Just look at it! Beautiful. Very good value to boot. I am really enjoying this case. Wonderful built quality and well thought out. The customer support fedex'd me extra case and hard drive screws when i lost mine at no cost!

Cons: There is no cons I can think of. This is pretty much the perfect case for me.

2 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for...

Pros: ...which is, unfortunately, not much. Low cost case if you don't have the budget. Front door is nice, being able to hold 8 hard drives is nice. Being able to add as many fans as you could possibly need is nice.

Cons: BUT, there are a ton of issues. Flimsy construction, way too many screws when building even a simple rig, one or two parts arrived bent or broken, grommets are very weak and fall out, the grommet near the PSU area is actually partially blocked by the PSU, the top grommet near where the CPU power would go is very difficult to access, LED is very bright and *yuck* blue, and the included fan controller is a cheap knob built from components that I am not convinced could handle the load from even three small fans.

Other Thoughts: Did anyone at Fractal actually try to build a computer in this rig before selling it? I don't think so.

First and last Fractal case I ever buy. Other options (550D) are simply superior for not that much more money.

3 out of 5 eggsQuiet but flimsy

Pros: Good quality metal HDD brackets, tasteful design, included fan controller is a nice bonus. Grommets for everything eliminate vibration noises. Fan installation is fast and easy, no self-tapping screws to fuss with. Sound insulation everywhere keeps the case fairly quiet. Nice quality power button, reset button is hidden and difficult to press accidentally.

Cons: Runs hot with default fan configuration (temps went up 5C from my p183). I put two better fans in front, temps are still +3C. Tabs on the side panels are flimsy and tend to bend, which makes fitment difficult. Grommets are cheap and fall out all the time. Matte finish absorbs oils, creates spots from handling. Metal is flimsy, tightening screws past hand tight on the psu mount point or PCI port covers will break paint. Plastic doors over the front fans take some finesse to open. Not much room behind the mobo tray for cable routing, and with the cheap grommets I recommend a fully modular PSU for this case.

Other Thoughts: I bought this case for my media PC, and it's not bad for that application. The more I work in this case, the less I like it. I'm not going to replace it, but if I had to do it over again I would have purchased a competing product. There are better cases in this price range, and -much- better cases for only a little bit more money.
