As the name implies, the Define XL with USB 3.0 is the larger sibling of the acclaimed and award winning Define R2/R3 case. It is focused on low noise levels while also excelling in other important features such as high-performance cooling, expandability and ease of use. The XL combines minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality, and unparalled value in this price range. This full-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming/enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The exclusive ModuVent System, 10 hard drive bays with SSD compatibility, sleek black interior, pre-installed noise absorbing materials, 6 fan slots, unique tilted rear-exhaust 180mm fan, configurable thermal chambers, rotatable/removable HD bays and superior cable management, are just some of features that put the XL in a class by itself.

The Define XL is pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material. This material effectively absorbes noise generated by the components and fans inside. The sleek top panel has no holes, to also help reduce noise. Instead of putting a fan on the top cover, a 180 mm fan is mounted inside near the top at an optimized angle, to blow out air in the rear and further reduce any noise generated by the fan. The side panel has a removable cover, called ModuVent which also contains noise absorbing material and can be removed to further enhance the air flow characteristics by mounting an additional intake fan in the side panel.

The case has 3 chambers, which can easily be reconfigured in multiple ways to change and optimize the way airflows through the case. If desired, the XL can support up to 7 fans and provide airflow from 3 sides of the case. The cleverly designed, 10 white HDD trays can be used for 3.5” HDDs or SSDs and the rubber mounting grommets further reduce noise in the system. The spacious chassis can support long graphic cards up to 330 mm (or 480 mm if the upper HDD cage is removed). The case also includes several rubber grommeted routing holes and extended cable space behind the M/B mounting plate which allow for efficient cable management. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply which can be easily removed for cleaning. It's easy to see why this case has won so many awards; the attention to detail, clever design, high-performance features, understated yet elegant style, quality workmanship, and unparalled value, put the Define XL in a class of its own.

  • newegg BUILT-IN USB 3.0 SUPPORT The Aluminum look front panel has a stunning, minimalistic design with easily accessible USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and Audio I/O ports. The reset button is intelligently placed inside the front door.
  • newegg OPTIMIZED FOR NOISE REDUCTION The case includes dense, noise absorbing materials on the front and side panels. Paired with other noise reduction freaturs such as a covered top panel and silicon mounting grommets for HDDs, the XL truly excels in delivering a low noise solution.
  • newegg Superior cooling design with ModuVent system 180mm fan is mounted at an angle blowing hot air out the rear of the case. Doing this allows the top of the case to be closed which does not allow noise to escape from the top, giving the XL case a clear acoustic advantage. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans. And a fan controller, which can be mounted in an expansion slot in the rear, is included. It can control up to three fans with one knob.
  • newegg CONFIGURABLE THERMAL CHAMBER DESIGN The case has 3 chambers, which can easily be reconfigured to change the way air flows through the case. The main chamber has a rotatable and removable HDD cage. A divider separates this chamber from the PSU chamber. The PSU can be turned upside down to change airflow. The 3rd chamber contains 2 fixed HDD cages which are separated from the PSU chamber by another removable divider.
  • newegg STYLISH AND FLEXIBLE HDD TRAYS 10 HDD trays (painted Fractal accent white) can support 3.5” HDDs or SSDs. The silicone mounting pads reduce noise caused by drive vibration.
  • newegg ADVANCED CABLE MANAGEMENT Cables can be conveniently routed through rubber grommets into a generous compartment behind the motherboard to reduce cable clutter and improve airflow.

4 out of 5 eggsAVvry good case for the price

Pros: 1. It can hold anything and everything.
2. Very quiet.
3. Good cooling.
4. Support answers the phone quickly.
5. Quite sturdy.

Cons: 1. The two front fans are a royal pain to service. It's the only bad design choice in the case.

Other Thoughts: It does everything i need. Yes, I would buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING CASE

Pros: Oh Wow, I don't know where to begin. This case is very quiet and built to last a lifetime. Honestly, the metal is so thick and the lining so well done that it might save you from an EMP, not guaranteeing that, but, inside a Faraday Cage this will certainly not be the one that caught a tracer.

Cons: HDD installs are the new 'backwards' method and cable routing is fine, but took me a bit of time to figure out, not a real negative, but I want to be fair.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Lots of Room
Plenty of air movement from fans
Looks nice

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This is a nice case. I got this version instead of version 2 because it has more hard drive spots. this is my first experience with Fractal-Design and I will most definitively buy from them again.

5 out of 5 eggsCase built for Quality!!

Pros: When the delivery man handed me my package the first i noticed was the weight!! I rushed to open it up like a Christmas gift to myself!! An amazing case!! you can feel how well this case is built just holding the side panels! i love the fact that the HDD trays can turn to suit your like! USB 3.0!! Im not one for flashy cases with lights all over, i like my cases well built, keeps cool, and is quiet!!
This case exceeds my expectations!!

Cons: This is the only gripe i have, i wish the power button would have been put on the inner door panel to help avoid an accidental shutdown.

Other Thoughts: Definitely would purchase this case again!! I recommend it if you want a cool full tower case that wont disturb any sleep at night!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat looking, heavy

Pros: Very heavy, good looking, great sound deadening. Not good for cooling. Layout is pretty decent, has lots of holes to snake wires through so you can keep them hidden.

Cons: Big and heavy.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing case

Pros: 1. This case has great airflow, which is surprising because it does not have any fans on top. They instead angled a fan on the top that actually blows out the back, and this works better in my opinion. The front fans ( I added more) bring in a lot of air.
2.Very quiet, the side panels are heavy and dense with sound proofing material.
3.Well built all the way around. The fans are quiet yet powerful, the case is heavy and sturdy, and every part feels solid.
4.Plenty of room for almost anything (except water some cooling).
5.In my opinion it is very slick looking, not flashy but stylish.
6 If someone is shooting at me, I could hide behind it.

Cons: 1. Not a lot of room for liquid cooling. I have a CPU water cooling set up with a 120mm fan and it fits great. Anything larger and there really isn't room.
2.Not really a negative for me, but this is a pretty heavy case.

Other Thoughts: This is the best case and my favorite case so far (and I have built a decent amount of computers)... and for the price this is a steal. This case is built like other companies $300 cases. Hopefully Fractal Design doesn't catch on and raise the price.

If you are on the fence, buy it.
You will not regret it.

5 out of 5 eggsI can finally sleep comfortably

Pros: Quiet, spacious, dark, geometrically simple, sleek. It has all sorts of cool features inside such as ways to route your cables and easily swap-able hard drive mounts. The fans are all located in neat places which I would assume gives it pretty good ventilation. The outside is very simple but still quite attractive with its smooth black finish.

Cons: I had some trouble utilizing the holes throughout the case for powering all my peripherals. I had to cheat in a few places. Besides that I am overjoyed with my case.

Other Thoughts: When looking for a computer case, my first criteria was that it was quiet enough so that if I lay down in my bed next to the box, the light and sound would not disrupt me. This case turns the loud droning of most other cases to a light whisper, assuming your hard drive is not seeking like crazy. The only light on the case is located at the top, but it is bright enough to act as a night light in a perfectly dark room.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME CASE!

Pros: Ok no questions asked, best case for the money whether on sale or not.
Tons of space great cable management, fans, and fan mounts everywhere. Solid build, quiet supports 10 HDDs!

Cons: doesnt pay my rent.

Other Thoughts: Ok so there are a few thoughts on this.
1. make sure you buy cable extentions at least 10in+ in size.
2. Make sure you have good Sata power connections and not just the standard PSU cables because when you mount your HDDs the way the cable sits and bends wont fit if you try to chain HDDs.
3. make sure your 8 pin CPU power extension is properly mounted and secure the 180mm fan may sit very close to these wires depending on your mobo.
4. take your time when building and picking out your cable extensions the case doesnt wave a magic wand, so plan ahead as I did.
I have done builds in this and the 800D and they are both great case, but for the price, no question Fractal XL all the way!

5 out of 5 eggsBig, Pearl Black. Beautiful.

Pros: Nice construction, thoughtful design, plain and professional looking, spacious, good airflow, ample hardware included, QUIET! Heavy metal, not a kid's case.

Cons: Slide out drive cages have a metal latching design that is a little flimsy. If you don't handle them like a gorilla when you remove them you'll be fine though. This is being nit picky. Made in China like everything else.

Other Thoughts: Used this to build a video editing PC and I love the engineering behind this case. Added one 140mm fan to the front of the case, and that's about it. Would be nice if the fans were all 4-pin so that they could go straight into the MB. I used the included fan controller to run the 3 included fans, and they're so quiet I just leave it set to full.

Complaints about the main power cable not reaching the MB are valid. I flipped my power supply upside down (case is vented on the bottom for this) and that made it so my Corsair HX850 reached the MB. Otherwise I'd have needed an extension. Plenty of room for cables and organizing.

This is a big, heavy case, so you may want to put it on wheels. I built a small dolly to place it on. No real complaints at all about this baby, very high quality and happy I went with it over the Antec 1200.

5 out of 5 eggsFractal cases a must for quiet computing!

Pros: Quiet Computing while still keeping the machine cool

Cons: No Stand offsets for EEB motherboards (I put KGPE-D16s in them, but have to leave it somewaht unsteady w/ 3 mountpoints missing). Did not lose an egg for that since it is not designed to have them, but I'd like it if it did!

Other Thoughts: Fractal cases + Noctua fans = moderately expensive, but awe inspiringly quiet and cool results!
