The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award-winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features.

No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240 radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder. An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5in, SSDs on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm.

This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent TM System provides three panels which also have noise-absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of eight 3.5in. HDDs or 2.5in. SSDs.  The top five-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length. The bottom three-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to seven fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from five sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg Optimized for Noise Reduction Pre-fitted with dense noise-absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg Support for Liquid Cooling You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240mm radiators to be mounted. Select slim radiators can be mounted in the front fan holder (requires the bottom HDD cage to change position).
  • newegg Innovative SSD Mounting Options Hide those drives! Take cable management and interior cleanliness to a whole new level. Mount up to two 2.5in, SSDs out of sight on the back side of the motherboard tray.
  • newegg Integrated Fan Controller Fan control at your fingertips. The integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel and manages up to three fans, allowing you to tailor the fan speed to your needs.
  • newegg Removable HDD Cages Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of eight 3.5in. 5 out of 5 eggsCouldn't be happier

Pros: Excellent customizability, it comes with an excess of screws, zip ties and standoffs, and the included case fans are much higher quality than I'm used to.

Cons: One of the standoffs got stripped and couldn't be removed, but luckily for me it wasn't in an important spot like near the I/O plate.

Other Thoughts: This case is HEAVY, but that is what I was looking for in this instance. The build quality is rock-solid, no excess vibration. Other reviews mention that the front panel is almost too easy to remove, which is true, but if you care about being able to clean the dust screens, this is a good thing. I already mentioned this, but the 140 mm fans this comes with are dead quiet and can move a heavy volume of air, which is new to me. I'm used to buying ~3 after market case fans to compensate for the cheap stuff manufacturers usually include. Cable routing behind the motherboard is good, and there is enough space for after market heat-syncs to fit quite well, but I don't feel it's an overwhelming amount of space if you're using full sized ATX boards or video cards.

5 out of 5 eggsCool and Classy

Pros: Very spacious. Smart design. Easy to remove and assemble parts. sturdy build. stays very cool with included fans. Good cable control. quiet and looks very slick and classy, which was the aesthetic I was going for. Basically every good thing i read about this case before i bought it turned out to be true.

Cons: no handles, kinda hard to move if i want to go to a LAN party or move it at all. not really a con at all though since most cases don't really have one. The way it looks is worth the omission. Nit pick: i wish the LED for the on button was white instead of blue since there is no other place where the case is blue, but that is purely cosmetic and a personal preferance. the blue goes well with the black though so i recommend the black case.

Other Thoughts: i'm glad i went windowless. It's pretty quiet and i think the whole window thing kinda takes away from the subtle look anyway. the case kinda gives off an "I have a secret and it's amazing" vibe lol. Great case for my first build, since it was easy to use. definitely one of my favorite parts of the build.

5 out of 5 eggscase larger than expected but quiet

Pros: this case was extremely quiet I could barely hear the fans running that came equipped with the case. I like the fact that you can hide cables within the case and plenty of room for airflow and peripherals

Cons: case was bigger than expected but that is on me for not reading the specs of this case size not on them

2 out of 5 eggsNot very durable.

Pros: Comes with all the hardware you need, looks nice.

Cons: Front door stopped working and doesn't lock in anymore. The front plastic door that covers the two front fans has two clips, only one of them actually clips in. This thing is literally falling apart.

3 out of 5 eggsBeautiful case, awful fans

Pros: The case is beautiful, well made, nothing lose, rattles, or seems flimsy. Plenty of screws and such supplied with it (although one more motherboard standoff would have been nice). Very easy to route cables behind the motherboard tray to get them out of the way, leaving a nice, clean presentation.

Cons: The stock fans are LOUD with a teeth-grating whine, even at the lowest speed. At high speed, buy a pair of foam earplugs. Very excruciatingly loud, and very sad to see (hear) - the rest of the case is very well made, and they cheaped out on the two stock case fans.

Do yourself a favor if you buy this case, buy a couple quiet 140mm fans (or maybe 3 or 4 - there's PLENTY of mounting locations in this case for them) and replace the stock fans.

Other Thoughts: The fans come very close to ruining this product.

5 out of 5 eggsbest quite case

Pros: This quite is dare i say it Ninja quite, it actually confused me the first time i turned it on because it was so quite, if it wasn't for the LED light on the front i would not of known it was on. its Very large and sturdy.

Cons: there are 3 cons that 2 are actualy pros that are also cons
1. Heavy, but its sturdy so its justified
2. The Blue LED hard drive light. it is insanely bright
3 the case is to large for its own good, i had to get another longer power cable for the inside of the case so the hard drives and Cd drive could get power

5 out of 5 eggsPerfectly Silent

Pros: Easy cable management, easy drive management, super clean look, build quality feels fantastic (I nicknamed the build "The Monolith")...and something else...oh yes.

The quiet. Let me try to lay this out for you.

I can hear the coffee machine - it groans as it sucks in a little sip of water to heat, it spits it into the grounds, and it makes a rhythmic trickling noise as it drops into the pot.

I can hear the PS3 my kids left on in the other room. Time to dust the fans on that thing, I guess.

The thermostat just tripped, I can hear both the blower turning on and the faint rustle of the curtains as the air starts flowing through the system.

I can hear the cat yowling out in the front yard at the other cats - they like to tag team rabbits this time of year.

Every so often, I can hear the fridge freezer fan wheeze into movement. Stupid thing took me days to replace and hours of driving to find.

Got all that?

I. Can't. Hear. The. Monolith. It's by my feet, and I can't hear it. Any of it.

Cons: Would have been good to have the fan control cables labeled as such. That was a little confusing.

Other Thoughts: I'd buy this again in a heartbeat.

5 out of 5 eggsDefine R4 Review

Pros: -Very good at containing fan noise. Comes with 2x 140mm "Fractal" brand fans with white blades

-"Professional", sleek-looking design

-Comes with 2 sturdy fan filters. 1xbottom ;1xFront

-No-hassle access to front fans

-Sound dampening material installed

-Can mount 2 SSD's on the back panel, behind the mobo

-Lots of space for HDD's. Lots.

-There's a fan controller built into the case. You can control the voltage from the front panel.(5v, 7v, 12v) A fan adapter for 3 fans are included. I personally did not use this.

Cons: -A bit heavier and ~2 inches longer than my previous case, the HAF 912

-If you ever want to take an SSD off, you have to take the mobo off as well. I don't like the idea of that so I just installed my SSD where the HDD would go

-Not completely screw-free: You have to screw the HDD onto the mounting tray, THEN slide it in. Not really a problem since you won't have a reason to unscrew it unless the HDD dies or you transfer to a new PC case.

Other Thoughts: The most attractive thing about this case is the sound dampening + design. There are few cases out there that look "simple", most of them are reminiscent of an ancient alien culture. My previous case was excellent for holding the components but it was not built to contain noise. With this case it excels at containing fan noise, even at high settings.

5 out of 5 eggsamazing case

Pros: 1: Clean looking
2: Great Build Quality
3: Quiet
4: Many options for cooling
5: Built in fan controller

Cons: only con is that I didn't buy it sooner

Other Thoughts: Bought this case as a replacement for my old case, which was as loud as a Dodge Cummins, opted for 4-7 day delivery, got it next day, so newegg has won my heart yet again.

5 out of 5 eggsFractal is serious business

Pros: This is one of my favorite cases. Aesthetically, it's no-nonsense black color, with blue LED by the power button is pleasing to the eye. It's not flashy, but it's super sleek and professional.
* The noise dampening foam does a pretty good job. With two fans, it's noticeably quieter and more than five degrees (Celsius) cooler than my previous case with the same internal components.
* Installation is a breeze and there are several different ways to configure the internal space to suit your needs.
* It has a decent amount of space for cable routing. It can get a little bit messy behind the tray if you don't have a modular PSU.
* Most of the HDD bays are easily removable to support the largest GPUs and increase airflow in the case.
* The removable fan filters help keep out dust and are easy to clean.
* Supports larger radiators, but also has foam to cover the top fan slots when not in use.
* Has noise dampening grommets to reduce noise from all HDDs
*Comes with an integrated three speed fan controller. It does the trick, but it's a no frills controller.
*Four conveniently located top USB ports, two of which are USB 3.0

Cons: * Using the default fan configuration allows in quite a bit of dust. You will likely need at least one more fan to create a positively pressurized environment.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a great case that isn't ostentatious, this the one. Also, if you're GPU fan is loud, this case won't change that.
