The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award-winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features.

No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240 radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder. An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5in, SSDs on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm.

This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent TM System provides three panels which also have noise-absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of eight 3.5in. HDDs or 2.5in. SSDs.  The top five-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length. The bottom three-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to seven fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from five sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg Optimized for Noise Reduction Pre-fitted with dense noise-absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg Support for Liquid Cooling You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240mm radiators to be mounted. 5 out of 5 eggsPassion, Excellence

Pros: *Excellent case design
*Extremely Sturdy
*Quietest tested
*Ample room
*Attention to detail
*Not short changed on hardware
* 7 fan capacity (stock capability, includes 3 with purchase)
*Thoughtful in most every way

Cons: *weight (this is good for the most part, as it reflects quality materials).

Other Thoughts: I wish that all manufacturers took the time and had the same passion as Fractal Design. They have become a favorite.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: As advertised, realy pleased.

Out of the box i had a noisy fan in the case, i e-mailed fractal and two messages later a new fan is on it's way. The process was easy and respecfull, so i don't remove an egg because Fractal's customer service was awesome.

Cons: Not realy a big cons but the fron usb and headphone ports are realy tight, i have to push hard to get them in. I gues it will wear out with time and get easyer.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this case!

Pros: * Large.
* Plenty of room for effective cable management.
* USB ports are very accessible.
* Quiet, quiet, quiet!

Cons: * Large. Very, very large. This case is huge.
* Power button is on the top and is easy to hit accidentally.

Other Thoughts: I love this case. Sure, it has a few flaws, but these are overshadowed by the ease of use and silence. I'm really glad I went with this case!

5 out of 5 eggsBasically perfect

Pros: Large, quiet, extremely easy to work in. Tons of slots for HDDs. The cable routing space behind the motherboard tray is enormous, which makes for a very clean build.

Cons: A plastic grate inside the front door fell off out of the box. I just left it off, it's fine.

Other Thoughts: Best computer case I've ever built with. I can't recommend it highly enough.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing case

Pros: What can I say that hasn't already been said about this case? The case has been extremely well thought out in every area - great care was taken when designing this case. Noise dampening, a ton of 140mm fan mounts, removable drive bays, cable management setup, aesthetic appeal, nothing wasn't well done. I've built hundreds of systems, and building in a case iike this is an absolute pleasure, you'll never went to go back to a standard $60 case after building in a case like the R4.

Cons: This case might not be the best for a liquid cooling setup. The top has mounts for a radiator but I was BARELY able to get clearance with the corsair H100i heatsink with a single set of fans. My motherboard, the ASUS z97-pro's heatsinks were thankfully flat on top. If rounded, it might not have fit! If I wanted to upgrade the H100i radiator for a push/pull setup, I would have to switch to low profile RAM for it to fit. I won't fault the case for that though, it was my own fault for deciding to go liquid cooling at the last second without research. So, food for thought, if you're going with a water cooling setup, this works but may not be the best option.

Other Thoughts: Despite the "con" above this is an amazing case, without question. Probably my favorite case I've ever built in to date. There's clearly a reason, or many reasons actually, why this case is one of the top recommended in DIY system builder forums and communities.

5 out of 5 eggsJust about perfect

Pros: Huge, well built, great airflow (especially with the top cage removed), and excellent cable management. It's also very sleek looking with no obnoxious logos visible. And it's quiet! The sound dampening material really helps. Another minor thing that I appreciated is that the 5.25" bay covers snap out from the front and are easily replaceable.

Cons: Doesn't come with a chassis speaker. I only figured this out after I successfully booted up for the first time and didn't hear any post beeps. It's not a major issue, and doesn't affect performance, but it's one of those peace of mind things I wish would have been included since the case has just about everything else. I'll just buy a separate speaker at some point.

It also only has one LED that can be used for either power or drive activity. Again, not a big thing, but it'd be nice to have both.

Other Thoughts: The LED is VERY bright. Like, "light up the room" bright. I put it in sleep mode at night so it doesn't blink.

5 out of 5 eggsI Love this case

Pros: Drive bay brackets well designed, incredibly quiet even under load, very cool with 140mm fans (2 included, I added a 3rd to cool the drive bay)
Extremely well constructed and laid out with intelligent cable management. This case is a joy to work with, and looks great as well. I'm using it as a NAS tower in my family room so a quiet, roomy case was a requiement.

Cons: A lot of force was necessary to get the motherboard port escutcheon snugged up against the opening in the back of the case, but that may or may not be a fault of the case and more a fault of the escutcheon. Ultimately I had to leave one motherboard mounting screw off, but this is minor.

One drive bay grommet was missing and although extra grommets are included, they are not the same as the drive bay ones. When I add 2 more drives to deck it out with the full 8 available I will have to come up with one.

The top is a bit flimsy with the cutouts for 2 optional 140mm fans. I don't plan on putting anything on top anyway, but it does flex a bit when you push on it.

Other Thoughts: I'd purchase another of these in a flash if I need another case.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Decent build quality. Nice interior to work in. All doors, latches, and hard drive mounts operate well. Good thermal performance and pretty quiet.

Cons: -Front USB and audio ports are on the top, makes using them a pain when your desk has a shelf or cabinet for the computer
-Front USB ports are extremely stiff, to the point that I worry my flash drives might come apart while I'm pulling them out.
-Slight warp in the body that caused the top surface to buckle and bulge while I was working inside it.
-CPU/Heat sink cutout behind the motherboard is too small, my Hyper212 Evo just fit but a cooling solution with a slightly bulkier back plate would have required cutting.
-Overall cheap feeling compared to other cases I've worked in.

Other Thoughts: Moved my system into this case after my UPS destroyed my Antec p280 during shipment. I think that most of my dissatisfaction with this case is due to the great experience I had with the Antec p280. If you have the extra $30, just get that case instead. This is very much a poor man's version of that case, the two are very similar in design and features.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Case for Minimalists

Pros: I seriously love how there is no manufacturer logo / design on the front of this case. This is the primary reason why I bought this case. I also thoroughly enjoy having access to the USB ports and power button on the top of the case. I love the cable management and the fact that the PSU sits on the bottom of the case.

Cons: I can't stand how bright the blue power light is! I would much rather have a dim orange light. As a result, I disconnected the power light pin and sometimes have a hard time knowing if my computer is on or off. I also dislike how glossy the front of the case it. I wish it was matte like the rest of the case. Finally, I dislike the white accent inside of the case (fans, bay covers, etc.). Fractal Design now offers an entirely "blacked out" edition of this case now though.

Other Thoughts: Buy this case. You will not regret it. I was once a huge Antec fanboy until I purchase this case. It has everything you will want in a computer case.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive!

Pros: I am amazed by the quality of this case! I came from an old Antec 900 case, and this one blows it away!

Cons: None at all!
