The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award-winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features.

No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240 radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder. An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5in, SSDs on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm.

This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent TM System provides three panels which also have noise-absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of eight 3.5in. HDDs or 2.5in. SSDs.  The top five-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length. The bottom three-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to seven fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from five sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg Optimized for Noise Reduction Pre-fitted with dense noise-absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg Support for Liquid Cooling You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240mm radiators to be mounted. 5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Case for Minimalists

Pros: I seriously love how there is no manufacturer logo / design on the front of this case. This is the primary reason why I bought this case. I also thoroughly enjoy having access to the USB ports and power button on the top of the case. I love the cable management and the fact that the PSU sits on the bottom of the case.

Cons: I can't stand how bright the blue power light is! I would much rather have a dim orange light. As a result, I disconnected the power light pin and sometimes have a hard time knowing if my computer is on or off. I also dislike how glossy the front of the case it. I wish it was matte like the rest of the case. Finally, I dislike the white accent inside of the case (fans, bay covers, etc.). Fractal Design now offers an entirely "blacked out" edition of this case now though.

Other Thoughts: Buy this case. You will not regret it. I was once a huge Antec fanboy until I purchase this case. It has everything you will want in a computer case.

1 out of 5 eggsProbably awesome if you can get the motherboard installed

Pros: Lots of screws that you can not use! Fractel Designs motto must be we like to screw with people.

Cons: I received the case today and I can not get any of the mother board screws to go into the case. They did not prep the holes big enough for the screws provided! I have built over 10 pcs in my life and have bought cheap cases in the past and this is by far the worse one ever made. I have an also system being wait to build but can't do anything until I get another case.

Other Thoughts: Wish I never went for a Fractal Design.

3 out of 5 eggsReally pretty case.

Pros: Looks great, plenty of space, and the 140mm fans are so quiet even on blast. Case is pretty quiet too, It baffles the gpu fan noise very nicely.

Cons: The case fan speed selector and the front usb faceplate shorts out the system. When ever i plug in a usb drive the system freezes with no blue screen. I plug the same usb drive in to the back (the MOBO) and the system is fine. My buddy was telling me it was some kind of grounding issue. I received a replacement fan switch and that seemed to help the usb ports but i still can't change the fan speed while the system is up without it freezing. I am using the correct psu (750 continuous @ 40 degrees) per Asus's power computing web site and per the GPU manufacture site (AMD).
I'm open to any ideas, Fractal doesn't seem to have any.

Other Thoughts: I probably won't be buying another Fractal case and i don't think I'll have this one for very long.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost Perfect

Pros: -Extremely quiet
-Built in fan controller
-Easy to work in
-Lots of hard drive slots
-Looks great

Cons: The only problem I have is that one of the front USB 2 ports came with a bent pin. Devices plugged into the port still get power, but no data connection. I very rarely use front ports (and there is still another one if I need it) so this isn't a huge con, just a small mistake.

Other Thoughts: Would be perfect and gotten 5 eggs if the port wasn't broken. Over All I highly recommend this case. I also got the case within 2 days of ordering with free shipping, only because the warehouse is nearby

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: This case is really quiet. I do not know if it is on unless I look at the light.

The holes in the case for routing wiring are well planned, I was able to keep the case really tidy.

The case is very solid, it feels like metal and definitely weighs like it. However, when picking it up be careful what you grab for, the front of the case is on hinges as you see in the picture.

It is really cool temperature-wise, coming from a full tower with plenty of fans I wasn't so sure about just having two case fans. Turns out two is more than enough.

Also, the case is very spacious, I have a 3rd party cooler and GTX 760, both have an ample amount of room.

Finally, as someone living with 2 dogs and 2 cats, I am very happy with the case's very fine filters and airflow direction.

Cons: I'm not so sure about having paid $120 for a case, but I'm still happy with my product.

Other Thoughts: don't bother with liquid cooling or extra fans

3 out of 5 eggsNice Case, Bad Top Panel?

Pros: Nice case overall so far. Inspected upon arrival, and everything seems solidly built with a sturdy cutouts, sturdy panels, etc. Still waiting for other parts to arrive before building though. Everything is nice except for 1 piece - the top panel (see cons).

Cons: The top panel is super floppy. I can press in on it with my 1 pinky finger, and it flexes in and out, popping back and forth. Is it supposed to be like this? The whole rest of the case is sturdy. Why skimp on the top panel? I think it might be a result of the 2 fan cut outs decreasing the strength of the panel. But given how weak it is anyways, I'm not sure I would mount a dual fan liquid radiator, fans, or anything on there.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid, heavy, very quiet case

Pros: Solid construction, attractive, quiet design, very roomy inside, removable dust filters on all air intakes. It is good at supressing any noise (fans, drives) inside.

Fitting all the components inside, and making the wiring neat and tidy was a breeze.

Cons: The only issue I encountered was that the screws for (secondarily) securing the drive trays simply won't thread into the drive trays. I think maybe they neglected to thread the hole in the drive trays. The clips hold the trays in place well enough, but I would prefer the solid anchor of a screw driven into the tray.

Only feature I miss is separate power and disk activity LEDs. There is just the one blue one. I hooked it up as disk activity.

Other Thoughts: This is a nice case for the money, with a well thought-out design. I'm very pleased, and would recommend it to a friend.
