5 out of 5 eggsFractal Design - Swedish for AMAZING!

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: I love the design of this case simple and elegant. It is also fairly easy to work with, even though I have these ogre like hangs with fingers of butter. 3 way fan controller, silent design, quality construction aluminium(minus the cons part of course), and great air flow.

Cons: most of the standard issues have been noted all minor ones at that and have been improved in the define r5. I was however not expecting the flimsy metal at the 2 140mm fan mounting locations at the top and the flimsy metal athe the 120/140mm mounting location at the bottom. Also be wary of PSU length as it can cut you off from mounting a bottom intake fan.

Other Thoughts: Yes I know I have some minor issues with this case, but the overall quality is fantastic. Using all 6 fan slots at full speed it's still a fairly silent case. Even though it has it's downs it's still just to beautiful to me to pass up :)

1 out of 5 eggsHDD vibration really bad =(

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Silent Case, a lot of room for cable management, case looks great

Cons: The case would be 5 starts for me but I put my computer together and it;s silent but it emits a vibration that you can feel it in the entire desk , so i started to listen and see where the vibration is coming from and it's from the bottom hard drive cage my HD is making it vibrate , I remounted the hard drive to different slots and using the provided rubber mounts and screws and nada , I unplug the hard drive so it doesn't spin and the vibration is gone , so I'm 100% sure is my hard drive but no matter where I mount the hard drive the vibration is felt.

I googed this problem and voila! there are other several threads having the same problem with the hdd vibration with this case, this isn't good if many are reporting the same thing, I'm disappointed at Fractal if they didn't do any Q&A with different hard drive speeds because this day of age it should not be experiencing this problem. My old antec 900 didn't had any issues with the same hard drive for example.

I want to know if Fractal has a solution to this or if anyone has any advice before requesting a RMA from newegg.

thanks

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case with Excellent Support

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: I bought this case on sale for Black Friday to build a new computer to replace a six year old one. The case is big but that's obvious and to me a pro. There is plenty of room to work with and the attention to detail taken in designing it is clear. I'm not a fan of overly flashy designs or LEDs so this was the clear choice for me.

About a week ago my clumsyness got the best of me and I tripped over some headphones that were plugged into the front audio out damaging the port. I contacted Fractal Design hoping to buy a replacement and they kindly shipped me a courtesy replacement which was very simple to install and arrived quickly. They've ensured my next case purchase will be another from Fractal Design.

Cons: The new R5 case came out a few weeks ago so I likely would recommend that since it's an evolution of this case but either way you'll be satisfied.

4 out of 5 eggsSturdy Casy

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Great look, a lot of room. This is very customizable and has a lot of preset fan spaces. The removable front fan holders is a very nice touch. There are Front and Bottom Dust shields which are a huge plus.

Cons: No side fan options, no top Dust shield. These 2 reasons are the only reason this is a 4/5 case. The top of the case could have used more creativity to finish.

1 out of 5 eggsBig design flaw in the front panel

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Well engineered. 2 USB 3.0 in the top

Cons: Front panels not sturdy enough. Carried the case a few times and had to hold it by the front panel to slide it behind the driver seat in the car. However, the front panel is not properly fasten with screws but just some plastic clips and a magnet.
The glue of the magnet came of 6 month a go, and the clips can prevent the front panel from being pulled out.
As a result, the front comes out when I handle the case at the slightest pull and the USB and switch cables get pull out tool. Now the reset switch and the power switch are dead. So the case is useless.

Other Thoughts: Please finish your product all the way. 95% is not enough. I would have been ok to spend $10 for a better product.
Drive trays over complicated. Not that quiet with the window.

5 out of 5 eggsBlack Pearl - Great Overall Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: I chose this case for my computer build because of it's excellent design, reviews, and value. To focus on the design, I want to stress a few things I like in particular:

Looks great - clean & functional
Good sized window
Easy access from sides and front panel
Panels lined with quality sound dampening material
Plenty of space inside / easy cable management
Removable hard drive racks
Good airflow & expansion potential
Generally quiet / near silent
Includes quality fans & filters
Solid as a brick (heavy - but in a good way)

Cons: The only things I would change about this case if I had the chance would be the materials on the front door and side window panels. Dust will cling to the window, and it scratched somewhat easily from a microfiber cloth and from my finger while trying to clean it. I would like to see a more durable window. The brushed plastic panel on the front is a little harder to scratch, but is more noticeable when you do. I would love to see an actual piece of brushed steel here (I work for a metal fabrication shop, so I get uneasy when I am around too much plastic). These parts are not replaceable from Fractal Design. Upgrading these parts would likely increase the cost of the case, but I believe it would be worth it to have more durable materials that last a long time.

I have seen custom windows available for the Corsair C70 but not for the Black Pearl.

I would take away half an egg, but still round up to 5.

Other Thoughts: Honestly it's hard to find much wrong with this case. The design makes working on it a joy and I like how it looks on my desk. There is a reason why this is one of the top rated cases: It's good!

Thank you Fractal Design.

If you are wanting more airflow, I recommend getting two more of the fans it came with and placing them on the front and the bottom intakes. This will utilize all available filtered intakes for cooling, and everything will match (if you are in to that). And with a little added vibration dampening material around all of the intake fans, this case is pretty quiet! 3M Friction Tape works well for this.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: - VERY quiet. This is the most quiet case I've ever had; I can barely even hear my box when it's running
- Minimalist appearance. Sleek lines, no extraneous lights (the only light on the box is the power indicator)
- Removable drive cages for improved airflow/card space

Cons: - Back-mounted SSDs are kinda neat, but having to remove the motherboard to mount more is annoying
- Could use a little extra height, since it's not quite big enough to throw in any of Corsair's closed-loop water-cooled CPU coolers

Other Thoughts: I really like this case, even though it was a little bit too short to do *exactly* what I wanted to do with it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Cable Management
Sleek
Tons of space and features
140mm fan support
Anti Dust

Overall this is an amazing case! Would recommend to friends.

Cons: No Handles

Very Heavy with everything in it. Nothing you wouldn't be able to lift, but I wouldn't take this to any LAN parties any time soon (unless I was staying for a week or something).

For whatever reason, my cases rubber feet came off (fixed with glue)

Also there is a slight rattle at the top when I start up, but I think this may be a result of the fan and not the cases fault.

Other Thoughts: If this drops below 90, buy that.

3 out of 5 eggsCould have been perfect

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Looks solid and I like the color. It matches my GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK. Lots of options for concealing cables and plenty of space behind the motherboard to tie up the cables. I like the padding all around the case to dampen the noise. This helps a lot with the issue I am having with the case I got. It could have been perfect for me if not for this one con.

Cons: The case I received has the top cover somewhat depressed at the center. I tried to push it up, but popped back down. I think this compromises the overall noise-dampening design. Every now and then, I could hear some vibration. It is not very loud, but noticeable. It would have been nice if it does not do this. I don't want to disassemble my new rig to RMA this as it is too much trouble for me. An stringent QC would have prevented this from happening. I wish I stuck with Antec, which I used exclusively until now.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure the depression on the middle part of the top was not due to shipping. There is no sign of damaged on the box and everything looked fine when I unboxed it.
