5 out of 5 eggsExceeded my needs.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Good parts of the case are that it comes with two 140mm fans, one in the lower front and one in the upper rear. They are already setup facing the correct way to suck in air from the front and blow it out the back. My components fit perfectly and the cable management setup inside this case made it easy to have a clean setup. I have to run a cable from my PSU to an optical drive in the upper front, to the middle of the case for my GPU, the lower front for my HDD and SSD, and the upper center for my CPU. I was able to route all cables cleanly and efficiently, no cables are stretched out and reach their destination with a bit of wiggle room thanks to the design.

I was able to fit a Cryorig H7 CPU cooler, and an EVGA GTX 750 Ti no problem inside the case.

Cons: A little bigger than I expected but this can be a pro as your components won't be suffocated and can breathe easily.

3 out of 5 eggsA little disappointed.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Dust filters work good, it wont stop the finer dust from seeping through, but for the majority of household dust/hair/fibers floating around, it works well.

Very Spacious, great air flow. Not much else to say here. Its everything one would want.

Removable dive bay is very handy.

Cons: The front panel being able to just pop out may sound like a boon at first, up until you realize just carrying the thing can cause it to pop right off at the worse of times. This has led to me nearly snapping it right off the front since i lifted it up from the underside of the front panel (typical place one will pick it up by) thereby nearly dropping the entire PC. I cringe at the thought of this happening to someone, especially if theyve got a big heavy cpu cooler like the Hyper 212 EVO like i do. -1/2 egg

The dust filter at the front tends to rattle, akin to a pc's side panel not being screwd in tight enough. Incredibly annoying for those of us who like our PCs running as quietly as possible. I solved this by taping a package peanut to the interior of the gate in front of the dust panel to keep pressing down on it. -1/2 egg for this.

Last but not least, the wiring of the front panel was faulty. The reset button as well as the front audio jacks for headphones/mic do not work. Thankfully the power button still works, otherwise i'd have been doomed. Naturally, i was too lazy to ship the case out for a replacement since i 1) already had everything installed in it, and 2) was without a functional pc, as this was built during an emergency. -1 egg for this.

These three points have led me to giving it 3 eggs rather than 5.

Other Thoughts: Maybe it was just bad luck and i drew the short straw with this case, but with the faulty wiring from the front panel, it would cause my pc to short circuit and power down completely at the slightest vibration (or if i say, opened and closed the front panel's door no matter how gentle i am). So if anyone else runs into this problem, check the wiring first.

4 out of 5 eggsGood no-frills case.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: There isn't really much to it. Building in it is straight forward. It looks really slick and doesn't impose itself in the room.

If you remain conservative with your fans and don't run them full blast all the time, it is whisper quiet.

Cons: The top panel feels really thin as it is just a single sheet of metal. Probably does not affect anything in any way but just something I noticed.

I did not choose an aio watercooler for my cpu but it looks like you would need a very low profile radiator for it to fit up top. Clearance could present itself as an issue if you go that route.

Other Thoughts: It does not have a separate power supply compartment to hide it and the cables down there. So the small window serves to hide that area.

The other cons were fixed with the R5 case. On the R4 the bottom dust filter can only be removed from the back. And the SSD mounts behind the MB are not that great. R5 addressed both these cons. I would recommend the R5 at this point in time.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality product, thoughtfully designed and flexible to accommodate expansion of cooling and storage.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: The very easy removable drive bays made getting the right balance of storage and optimum air flow a breeze.
The voluminous amounts of space in the back compartment made cable management a snap in this mid tower.
The clean look of the case.
the many cut outs to run cables allowed for a much more amount customization.
fabulous case for the price.

Cons: Just a small thing but maybe allowing a little more room inside top of case. I was able to place a Corsair H100i GTX at the top but had to offset a bit.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this product to anyone wishing to build a gaming or any computer in that matter that will meet your needs now and as you upgrade.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case!

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: It has everything I was looking for. Solid case and plenty of room for components.

Cons: Front fan power cord was a bit short, but nothing an extender couldn't fix.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat First Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Used for first gaming PC build. There is plenty to like about this case for upgradeability:
Plenty of expansion room
Removable bays
Plenty of room for good cable management

Cons: May be slightly bigger than expected, but again, makes it easy to work with inside the case

Other Thoughts: Would recommend product highly

3 out of 5 eggsIt could have been a contender

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Very solidly built, lots of cable routing options. Despite its quiet design, there is still good airflow just so long as you don't go crazy with the O/C or the number of video cards you want to add. But, if you do, increased airflow is as easy as removing the sound reducing panels.
It is quiet.

Cons: One LED lead for either the power light OR the hard drive activity light. Thought that one was hidden or erroneously left out. Nope, its in the manual. One LED lead for either HDD or power.
Second, and more serious, fan controller had a short in it somewhere. I plugged in the case fans to the fan controller leads and when I tried to power the system up, it wouldn't . Unplugged the power supply from the adapter, and system powered up (minus fans) with no problem. Fans worked fine plugging them into the motherboard. Since Fractal fans are only 3 pin and not 4, using the fan controller on the case seemed a viable option. Tried several different cables and adapters from the power supply to the fan controller plug but always had the same results, no system power up until fan controller was unplugged. All this was discovered after first suspecting that the power supply was bad.

Other Thoughts: This is still a nice case, despite its fan controller problem and lack of an extra LED case connection. The R5 model has the extra connector and I had no problem with the R5's fan controller (as you can tell, I have both cases). The R4 was on sale and it was simply to good a bargain to pass up for the build I was making (which was essentially a spare unit for my Grandsons). Would I recommend the R4? Yes, but only if its on sale, other wise, I'd go with the R5 which has some fantastic upgrades to it over the R4.

5 out of 5 eggsGorgeous Case!

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Good air flow / space.
Great cable management.
Great looks for any black-based color scheme build. (Black/Red, Black/Blue, etc.)
Many options! (More fans, remove/rotate hard drive cages)
Easily maintainable dust filters.

Cons: The instructions could have been a little more helpful towards first-time builders, but it just took a little bit more time to figure everything out. It's not bad enough to deduct an egg over, though.
The power button cable was hanging down in the top ODD, but I only require 1 and used the bottom just as easily. If for some reason, you might want 2 ODDs, this might be something to think about. Again, for my situation, not worth deducting an egg.

Other Thoughts: The NewEgg TV review for this case is quite useful for becoming more familiar with it.
This case would be great for it's normal price, but it's an amazing deal if you can catch it on sale.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME CASE

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: -Top HDD tray is removable for airflow
-Has USB 2.0 ( I have a mb without a 3.0 header)
-Window that shows what I want to be shown
-Easy cable management, even though it has sound dampening foam
-Sound dampening foam works!
-TONS OF rubber grommets
-I got it for $69.00, so a fantastic deal

I just got the case today and just finished my build. The case is awesome! The case is very easy to build in. There was more than enough space for cable management. The case is pretty big, but is worth the space. There is a big difference of the amount of noise compared to my old case. The reason I got the case was because had a fantastic deal. I would still would've gotten the case if it was not on sale.

Cons: Nothing that would make me want to return the case.
-the rubber grommets came off when I was building my pc, but it was an easy fix.
-the case is a little big, but not that big of a problem for me.
-the power led is very bright.

Other Thoughts: I love the case

5 out of 5 eggsQuality.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This product for the price is the best case I have ever worked with. It is miles better then my corsair. The HDD bays are full metal, so many company's worry about tool-less designs that they forget about quality and these HDD bays are the epitome of quality. Very silent case and easy to work with.

Cons: None thus far.
