5 out of 5 eggsGreat replacement for Antec 1200 IMO

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Everything about this case screams quality:
From the sturdy metal and thick plastic front to the not at all flimsy front USB and audio ports. everything I had in my antec 1200 fits in here, meaning my SpinQ heatsink and GTX 770 along with a Asus Sabertooth z77. Still have enough room to go 3 way sli (if I ever wanted to).
Noticeable quietness with the same efficiency in cooling thanks to, not more fans (went from 7 on my Antec 1200 over to 3 on this) but b/c of the negative pressure principle.

Cons: On the window version, theres no side fan mounting holes, its just plain acrylic which I cant really complain (can make them if I want) but its not really a con, might be for some people.

Other Thoughts: overall happy with the new case

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Case with Excellent Support

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This is the quietest case I have ever owned. The construction is very impressive too, it feels very solid. Plenty of room for the biggest graphics card you could ever dream of.

Cheap- Got mine on sale for $80 with free shipping

Cons: My rear exhaust fan made a sound similar to someone tapping their nail a desk. I would dock an egg for this but support made up for it. (see below)

Other Thoughts: Sunday night I sent Fractal an e-mail stating my fan issue and by 8:30 Monday morning, I had a reply. After providing my name, phone number, shipping address, and case serial number, I had a FedEx tracking number before 10:30 the same day with my replacement fan on the way. I have never received support like this ever. Topnotch case by a topnotch company. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsEasily the best case I've ever owned

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This case is spacious, quiet and well thought out. The removable hard drive cage allows you to fit ridiculously long video cards with no effort. All of the sharp edges are rounded and the paintjob is solid too.

Cons: It's a little bit large so it looks kind of comical sitting on the milk crate I use to keep my tower off of the carpet. The mount for the front air filter seems a little flimsy as well... That's really all I can say. Other than that this thing is a dream.

Other Thoughts: I have used institutional Dell cases, Raidmax, Thermaltakes, LL's and probably forgotten quite a few... For the price and quality this is the best you can get.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointed

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Very good design, which I why I selected and purchased it during the recent Newegg sales.

Cons: Except that I was shipped a defective unit. The top of the case was warped inwards such that by slightly pushing it it would noisily pop upwards. Fans mounted there would have the case exhaust grills warped into the fans.

Other Thoughts: I am disappointed that Fractal Designs would allow such an obvious defect to pass their manufacturing QA.

Also I am very disappointed that Newegg is making me pay shipping costs to return a defective unit.

5 out of 5 eggsOverall, good quality

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: The build quality of the case is very good, the design is sleek and minimal, cable management is awesome in this case because there is so much room, it's extremely quiet

Cons: The front audio cable tends to come unhooked when removing the front plate, only comes with two fans out of the box

Other Thoughts: I decided to move the front fan up one slot and use the rotating drive bays as a fan guide, so to do that I had to remove the face plate. I didn't realize it at first, until I noticed I had no audio through the front jacks, that the front audio cable got disconnected. It seemed like just a small problem, but it was rather difficult to get reconnected because of the way the front panel is. I still really like this case for all its other features and build quality, just be aware if you buy it to be careful with that front audio cable.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressed

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This case is very wide giving lots of room for tall cpu coolers and whatnot. You will have no problem with fitting a CM Hyper 212 evo in this thing. In my old case the cooler touched the window and its not even close in this one.

Cable management is incredible. There is plenty of room to shove all that stuff back there. And you have a few options as far as doing that.

There are a ton of drive bays in the front if you need them but if you don't, you can remove them for extra air flow like I did.

This case also does an excellent job at absorbing sound from within. It is literally silent unless you have a loud cpu fan or something but even that is significantly reduced when comparing to other cases.

Cons: I would like to be able to turn the bottom drive cage like the top one to get better airflow from a second fan but its not a huge deal and certainly not worth taking off an egg to this case.

Other Thoughts: This case is pretty heavy. Some people might see that as a con but I like it. The side panels are way thicker and sturdier than a lot of other cases. I also like how the front fans simply snap into place. Makes them very easy to install. (Not that its hard to install fans in the first place.)

All in all, this case is fantastic. Definitely the best case I have owned. I got this case for $80 on sale but I would say this case is worth double that.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat case but front USB died a month later

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Great case, lots of room and good airflow. If it wasn't for the USB dying on me a month later I would have given it 5 star

Cons: After about a month the front usb died.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsLove at first sight.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Extremely pleasant to work with.

Extremely quiet.

Looks perfect.

Fully removable drive cages.

Back of motherboard panel SSD mounting.

Very nice fans and front fan controller.

Awesome cable management options.

Very nice dual fan slot (one included) in front, with easy access.

Excellent craftsmanship and an awesome window.

Cons: Needs more elaborate user information book for maintenance, however; everything is very easy to do.

My LED quit working after about a week, however; Fractal Support is very good and after creating a ticket I received a new one in about 4 days.

Other Thoughts: When looking through cases, I began my search in the lowest range of decent quality as in the NZXT 210-220 or corsair 200r. While I am sure those would have been good enough, the moment that I saw the R4, I really knew that was the one I truly wanted.

My girlfriend had to have some say in what case we bought because it was going to be our media center as well as my gaming rig. She picked this case hands down, to any other case I showed her.

I don't plan to plug in the replacement led any time soon, it isn't important to me, I put electric tape over the on light on my plasma. I also don't care about SSD readings. It is really easy to pop off the front panel entirely then the wires to everything are detachable on both ends, so it would be easy enough.

I don't think people understand how quiet the case is. I have a Radeon HD 7950 Boost, and I have never heard anything. I put the fans on max, and purposefully turn off everything in the house including the monitor and even then it sounds like nothing.

I recommend SSD all the way and just removing all drive cages, then adding one more intake fan to the front slot. That's what I did and it's amazing.

I bet you there is an R5 by 2015.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case for the Price!

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Purchased this case for a new build replacing my old Antec SOHO tower.
This case is very well designed, with many pros:
-Build quality is very good, the case is solid, the paint is high quality, all edges inside the case are rounded so that there is no danger of cutting yourself during installation.
-Extremely quiet, the noise reduction provided by the fan filters and padding on case sides and front works really well (I did not put a fan at the top of the case).
-Cable management is very good, I managed to put almost all of my cabling behind the motherboard including my SSD.
-SSD was difficult to install on the back of the case behind the motherboard because it is held flat against the surface which makes it very difficult to plug in the SATA power cable (I managed to do it, but the connector puts a lot of pressure on the drive).
-There are a lot of extra drive bays for those who need it. I installed one storage drive and the clips in the drive bays make it very simple to take the individual drives in and out without having to pull out the whole cage.
-I love that the power/reset buttons, front USBs, and Audio jacks are at the top of the case since mine sits on the floor next to me.
-Extra screws and cable ties are provided, rubber washer provided for shock absorption for mechanical drives.

Cons: Nothing I can think of.

Other Thoughts: -The feet for the case are very nice, but a little short if your case sits on a carpet considering the power supply vents through the bottom. I put a piece of cardboard under the back of the case to allow the power supply to vent properly, but it would have been nice if the feet could extend out.
-It would be nice to have two LEDs on the case, one for power and one for HDD, but there is only one. I connected it to the HDD activity indicator as other reviewers have done, which is working fine.
-Acrylic window is a nice touch especially in a case with such nice cable management.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Looks awesome, especially with LEDs.This case is very sleek and stylish in every available color. It really is the Mercedes case

Cons: Unfortunately, I had a little bit of difficulty mounting H100i. I ended up front-mounting it after moving the bottom drive cage slightly. Thankfully, Fractal has a short video informing you how easy it actually is to front mount. And that keeps me from docking an egg... along with how great the case is.
