The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award -winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features.

No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240/280mm radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder.  An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5" SSD's on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter.  When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm. This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming/enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The unique ModuVent System provides three panels which also have noise absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications.  Rubber padding on the case feet, and anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of (8) 3.5"HDDs or 2.5"SSDs. The top 5-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length! The bottom 3-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to 7 fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from 5 sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg FULLY TRANSPARENT SIDE PANEL WINDOW The acrylic window side panel features the same clean, Scandinavian design as the case itself, and has a completely flat outer surface without any plastic bezel or rivets, allowing you to display your setup in style.
  • newegg OPTIMIZED FOR NOISE REDUCTION Pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg SUPPORT FOR LIQUID COOLING You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240/280mm radiators to be mounted. Select slim radiators can be mounted in the front fan holder (requires the bottom HDD cage to change position).
  • newegg INNOVATIVE SSD MOUNTING OPTIONS Hide those drives! Take cable management and interior cleanliness to a whole new level. Mount up to two 2.5" SSD's out of sight on the back side of the motherboard tray.
  • newegg INTEGRATED FAN COOLER Fan control at your fingertips. The integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel and manages up to three fans, allowing you to tailor the fan speed to your needs.
  • newegg ADVANCED CABLE MANAGEMENT Over one inch of space behind the motherboard plate means cables can be conveniently routed through 5 rubber grommets into a generous compartment behind the motherboard to reduce cable clutter and improve airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsthe BEST

Pros: Great case. Fits all my fans, so there is no cooling issues. More than enough cable management space. Removed the extra drive bays, left only three, two for my HDD's and one for my SDD.

Cons: None that i see

5 out of 5 eggsBrilliant Case

Pros: I'm not the first, probably won't be the last, but these cases from Fractal Designs are a pure joy to work with. From the detail on where to place thumb screws, to the phenomenal detail on sound dampening, the HDD trays, the additional space behind the mainboard panel, the filters, the fans, the rubber baffling on cable pass throughs. Seriously it's hard to know where to start.

1) Space. It's got it. From the painless to remove additional HDD bays for long video cards, to just a skosh more space for cable runs, it's hard to go wrong here.
2) Solid construction and aesthetics. Very little feels flimsy here, or if it's lightweight, there's a reason for it. The front panel has an easily removed fan panel that at first blush feels flimsy but then you realize how easy it was to add that fan and it all falls into place.
3) Sound -- It's very quiet indeed. Baffling throughout on sheet metal cutouts, gratuitous use of rubber grommets for vibration management, sound dampening material on the interior of the side panels -- just lovely.
4) Aesthetics -- I ended up getting the Titanium variant over black simply due to market forces and I think in the end I like it better. The titanium is very subtle and in a lot of lighting situation looks black, but occasionally shows it's metallic sheen to good effect. Overall it's a very understated aesthetic which appeals to me.

Cons: Really there are none. If I had to kick in a con, it's the "spare" SSD mounting points on the back of the mainboard panel. It is definitely additional space and definitely a SSD would fit there if you were packing the case. However, you have to realize that the SSD mounting screws are hidden and captured by the mainboard, so installation and removal of the SSD in this location would require the removal of the mainboard. I just can't imagine anyone actually using this, but it's nice that Fractal gives the opportunity to use that rear space for more than cable routing. I just put the SSD on one of the plentiful trays and called it a day.

4 out of 5 eggsWindow a Mixed Blessing

Pros: Excellant cable management and flexible layout for several drives (SSD or HD). Very quiet case and fans.

Cons: Acrylic window attracts dust from the inside of the box and outside. During the winter the low humidity makes the static electricity attract dust so window constantly needs to be cleaned. I wish the case came with two left panels (one with a window and one without a window). Having to open the front panel to use the DVD writer gets a little tedious, but I guess it is the price of the quiet case.

Other Thoughts: The case comes in at least 3 options, windowless black, windowed black and windowed gray. I didn't realize that when I placed the order. I don't know how it would have changed my selection, but I wish I had realized the options.

4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful Case, Some Issues

Pros: This case is seriously solid. It's steel, so it's already dense and solid, but the soundproofing material to keep things nice and quiet also adds a bit of weight to the case.

It also runs very, very quietly under load, and seems to have decent airflow.

Cons: I've only had the case for about a week, and it seems that the front jacks have stopped working. I'm rather frustrated with that because I heavily use those while playing games or video chatting.

Other Thoughts: The LED for the power button is a little bright for my tastes, but it could be worse.

5 out of 5 eggsBEST CASE EVER!

Pros: This thing has it all! It's got enough space for most motherboards, it's got a place for two 140mm fans on the top for air or slim water coolers to go, tons of drive bays, a lot of sound dampening hardware such as foam and rubber spacers throughout. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, IT LOOKS AMAZING!!! It's simple and sheek, at home in your den or your living room, it just blends well to any environment.

Cons: It would have been nice for fractal to include a few less interal drive bays, in favor of one or two more external bays, and to put it over the top for water cooling pros, it would have been nice to see three 140mm spaces at the top of the case for a big radiator, but again, that's not exactly what this case is designed for.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good case

Pros: LOTS of room. Cable management is easy in this case. It's heavy and feels really sturdy on all sides. Removable hard drive bays and fan controller is awesome. Fans glow under blacklight. Rubber feet for the psu, rubber grommet where the psu touches the back of the case. Comes with this little tool to help screw in mobo standoffs. Very quiet case compared to my Rosewill Ranger. Easy to replace front fans. Side panel is flush with the side door. The fans that come with it are still pretty quiet on full blast.

Cons: There needs to be another grommet on the right side of the mobo tray. My mobo power is right between the two grommets so I have to have it coming from behind the mobo tray. If they could have 3 smaller grommets instead of 2 larger ones, then there would be no issue. One of the foam pads on the top was damaged somehow. The airflow for the front fans is hindered a little by the front door

Other Thoughts: If you're doing black lights, the side panel glows and looks kinda foggy. But it still looks cool regardless. I wish the door was hinged on the other side. If you take off the front panel, don't yank on it. I broke off some little plastic thing because i'm used to having to yank on my Rosewill case front.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

Pros: The case is beautiful, quiet, well built, great cable management, and lots of storage for drives.

Cons: Just a little con, nothing major..
Wish it had a built in card reader, or place for a 3 1/2 drive.

5 out of 5 eggsVery well designed

Pros: Built like a Volvo ( I'm sure the Swedes put this case through the moose test) It's 22 lbs. empty!
Lots of room, great cable management
Great air flow with 6 140mm fan mounts (2 140mm fans included)
great dust filters, easy to remove and clean
Fairly quite for having a side window. The windowless model would be near silent.

Cons: The only con I can think of for some would be that there is only two external bays.

Other Thoughts: Best case I've built up in 22 yrs.

4 out of 5 eggsThis thing is amazing!

Pros: Pictures don't do this thing justice. When you get everything wire managed right (which believe me, they give you more then enough room in the back to get things accomplished), everything just looks so clean. Sound is barely audible and I believe it is my loud stock cpu cooler that I am hearing. Overall great build quality.

Cons: I am docking one egg for one simple complaint. The front door hinges are on the left side. While not the biggest concern by any stretch, it is just an annoying problem at least for my setup as the back is against the wall...kinda.

Other Thoughts: Do not let my one dumb complaint steer you away from buying this case (I doubt it was anyway). There is absolutely no reason not to buy it.

However, there is one more thing I want to note. I bought this while it was on sale for $89. What was ordered was titanium grey. What was in the picture is titanium grey. What I got looks a lot like the black version. I again am not complaining because I really wanted the black over the titanium but the $89 was too good. I am not sure if this was a shipping error or is working as intended. I can say the front is titanium grey, the sides however are very black. Just a note.
