The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award -winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features. No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240/280mm radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder. An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5" SSD's on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm. This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming/enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent System provides three panels which also have noise absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, and anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of (8) 3.5"HDDs or 2.5"SSDs. The top 5-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length! The bottom 3-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to 7 fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from 5 sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg OPTIMIZED FOR NOISE REDUCTION Pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg SUPPORT FOR LIQUID COOLING You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240/280mm radiators to be mounted. Select slim radiators can be mounted in the front fan holder (requires the bottom HDD cage to change position).
  • newegg Innovative SSD Mounting Options Hide those drives! Take cable management and interior cleanliness to a whole new level. Mount up to two 2.5" SSD's out of sight on the back side of the motherboard tray.
  • newegg Integrated Fan Controller Fan control at your fingertips. The integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel and manages up to three fans, allowing you to tailor the fan speed to your needs.
  • newegg Removable HDD Cages Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of (8) 3.5"HDDs or 2.5"SSDs. The top 5-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length! The bottom 3-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility.
  • newegg ADVANCED CABLE MANAGEMENT Over one inch of space behind the motherboard plate means cables can be conveniently routed through 5 rubber grommets into a generous compartment behind the motherboard to reduce cable clutter and improve airflow.

4 out of 5 eggsGood case, nice features and a fair price!

Pros: The styling of this case is what I would describe as muted and classy. I generally don't like cases with doors, but this case won me over. Love the space for cable management, love the fan controller, love the use of thick metal, fan filters and easy access to front fans, the power button light is cool and top USB port are great.

Cons: I think the entire front panel could be more sturdy and less prone to flexing when taking it off and on.

Other Thoughts: If this case was $10-$15 cheaper it would be a steal. As it is for over $100.00 I expect more from the front panel strength. I don't see any long term issues with it and I would not let it dissuade you from purchasing this awesome case!

5 out of 5 eggssick case

Pros: pretty slick case, never have been more satisfied. can sleep with my pc on now. fan control is awesome, put it on high on gaming, low when sleeping. people from skype cant hear it when on high and i cant hear it on low. pretty spacious cable management. hardware wise, a lot of extra screws came in, in case you are kind of reckless when it come to little things.

Cons: just be careful when installing psu though. 2 screw holes are beside each other. if you dont wanna scratch your case be sure to line it up 100% before cranking the screw. but none so far

Other Thoughts: wished they put 2 fans in front and 1 on back to have positive air pressure inside though. extremely happy with this case. i planned to get the black one but the white one is slicker than i thought. its so.. uhm white:)

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I absolutely love this case and would buy it again. Fortunately I won't have to because the build quality is phenomenal. Everything feels completely solid in this case. It was a breeze building in and I like having the use of the built in fan controller. The fans that come with the case are silent as well, you are only hearing the airflow when at max. Moreover, it is large enough to accommodate a 212 evo cooler.

Cons: - THAT RED LED.
-The stealth mounting of the SSDs is something interesting. You can mount 2 SSDs behind the motherboard, but I didn't realize that you had to do so before you put the board on. To remedy this without taking out the MB, I simply velcroed the SSDs where they would usually be attached (yes there is enough room to do so), problem solved.

Not at all worth taking an egg off for though!

Other Thoughts: This comes with plenty of hardware to get everything mounted up, and you can find it inside one of the HDD trays. I spent a good minute looking for it before I realized.
The color in the Newegg photo itself looks a little off, but be assured that the color is in fact, white; reminds me of "Apple white"

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money.

Pros: This is a review update.

- Looks nice
- Love the removable sound dampening panels that cover the top and side fan vents
- Overall there aren't any sharp edges
- Mostly feels solid

Cons: - Not Silent
- Front door is not completely flush, top left corner warps out
-Power LED is Red (makes it seem like something is wrong all the time)
-The HDD cages are attached to plastic.
-The HDD cage vibrates like crazy. Loud.

Other Thoughts: The front door not being completely flush might not be the norm, but it really makes me mad. After owning a Antec P180 that was crazy warped, I just wanted a a front door that was perfect. Craftmanship just isn't a thing anymore.

5 out of 5 eggsBought 2

Pros: Both of these cases look fantastic... I really like the hard drive bays that can be rotated 90 degrees. I haven't put the machine together yet, but it looks like it will be an easy build. Awesome craftsmanship... If I gave one case 5 stars, and I gave the other one 4 stars for the defect... It'd still be a positive review...

Cons: The motherboard side (non-fan) door on one of the cases had a chipped corner and didn't seem to fit right. This bothers me... This may have been done in shipping - so I don't hold anything against the manufacturer...

Other Thoughts: I just wanted 2 perfect cases... It's funny. If I bought just one case, I would've probably overlooked the imperfection. But having 2 cases side-by-side, it just stood out. I don't want to send this back (I've already paid for it) and I like this case, so can Fractal just send me a replacement door? Just a question.

3 out of 5 eggsGood case Small problems

Pros: 1. Good cable management space.
2. Removable HDD cage. Easy to use tool-free metal brackets.

Cons: The case I received from NEWEGG,
1. Two rivets at the rear of bottom panel stick out too much. Need to be cut and sand down. Otherwise, it is impossible to mount the PSU into its place.
2. Dent on the top panel, around the two fan openings.
3. No installation manual.

Other Thoughts: 3 continued, No installation manual.
The SSDs should be installed before motherboard if you want to mount them on the back of MB panel. Realized this afterwards, too lazy to redo.

Red LED power indicator on this glossy white case. Personally I don't like it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Case Value

Pros: Solid construction and packaging

They really thought about how a power user is going to need to use this case.

The 2 140mm fans are super quiet even on full speed and with the filters, they will stay that way.

Cons: the evil cat can no longer plot to destroy the fans with his hair
