4 out of 5 eggsExcellent case with a minor fallback

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: - Wide selection of large case fan placements. (top, bottom, front, back)
- Spacious (duh) and very sturdy.
- Simple Cable Management. Even without a manual, any sound non-technical can see where and how to manage your cable in a tidy fashion.
- Extensive configurable options.
- Extremely quiet. It may not be complete sound-proof, but you can definitely "hear" the difference between FDD R4 and other average cases

Cons: - One of the heaviest case I owned thus far, not really a con for some users.

- Useless and unhelpful manual. For first time builders, they may struggle figuring out all lines and components.

- Top case fan protector have been ripped off on each corner and scratched when it arrived. Uhh... okay.

- Then I found out whoever was manufacturing my case at the time somehow managed to glue-gun case's front HD sound line with power lines (+ and -). After 20 minutes of "surgical operation" I salvaged power lines, but front HD audio remains unusable. Fantastic.

- You may want to buy this somewhere else where you can easily exchange it if you find a fault. Do you want to go through return / exchange process for few days with something this large and heavy? (Oh and you have to reassemble everything) Most likely not.

4 out of 5 eggsNice and Clean

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Lots of room in the case, cabling was easy. I like that the drive bays face the side of case because I am always in my computer hooking up a drive.

Cons: Case was wider than I expected. Still a great buy!

4 out of 5 eggsVery good, but not great

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Insulated interrior. Very spacious, much more room than I had expected. Overall a very clean design aesthetic. Clean paint job. Quiet. Good design quality, but not great.

Cons: The red light from the power indicator 'bleeds' through the front of the case. From an aesthetic point of view, this makes the product look cheaper.
The door on the front of the case is plastic, and it is bowed outward, so it does not sit flush when it is closed.
I like detailed instruction manuals. This doesn't have one. I had no problem installing my first build ever, but it would have been nice to not have to search other customer's YouTube videos on how to install the components in the particular case.
Hardly a con, but there is no case speaker. I know this costs a few bucks, but then why is one not included? Again, I had no problem with my first build, but if the speaker was needed for troubleshooting, then I'd be out of luck.

Other Thoughts: A citation from the product manual: Brands like Georg Jensen, Bang Olufsen, Skagen Watches and Ikea are just a few that represent this Scandinavian style and efficiency.

I was hoping for a case with the design quality approaching a Mac Pro (in spirit, not appearance), and didn't even set my expectations as high as the other Scandanavian brands manual references above.

5 out of 5 eggsCode name: Silent Killer

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Case is super silent, sturdy, overall very high quality and perfect for a high end build.

Cons: It is a fairly heavy case about 30 lbs before any components mounted, be aware of that.

Doesn't come with sticker saying "Beware: Silent Killer"

Other Thoughts: I live in an extremely dusty climate the dust filters are awesome and I only have minimal build up of dust in comparison to what I used to get in my old case which also had filters. The two filters themselves are easy to take off and clean.

Case came with one front and one back fan. At minimum, I would recommend to buy one additional 140mm case fan to go in the front panel intake and a 120mm fan (Consider your PSU size/length as you might be able to do a 140mm) for the bottom. Side panel/upper panel fans would be your personal preference.

Box doesn't say this; however, it is possible with some minor tweaks to get an eATX inside this thing (recommend looking at videos before doing). Lots of room for everything you'd want to put in it. The two hidden SSD mounts behind the mobo are great. Look at some un-boxing/builds of any of the Define R-4 cases and you'll see all you need to buy this case.

5 out of 5 eggsWhite is Right

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Amazing build quality. Sound proofing foam everywhere. Thick and sturdy construction. Extra room behind the motherboard for cables AND (woah?) the stealth SSD mount. Elegant understated design and simply pleasing aesthetic. Nice front panel headers with long enough cable for my build. Included fans are great quality with braided cables and virtually silent operation. Can't think of a better home for all my top end gamer hardware!

Cons: The side panel rigidity, foam, and tank like toughness come at a weight penalty. A minor concern for me since modern internet speeds reduce the amount of LAN parties I'd have to lug this thing to.

Other Thoughts: I wanted something different in my case this time around. Think of the most flamboyant Alienware or iBuypower "gamer" cases with lasers that zap, edges that deflect radar beams and robot arms the come out and punch your eyeballs every time you look at your case. This case would fit into the professional graphic designers office or the gamercave with muted grace and refined simplicity. Every inch of this case seems to have been touched in some way by the design team @ Fractal. It offers all the features that a modern case needs and some I never knew I'd love...until now. Hurry up and buy.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfection

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: I've always been a budget case guy and I've always gone with a plain black case. In point, my last case was the Rosewill Challenger which I purchased for $29.99.

This time I wanted to get a white case to be different but couldn't pull the trigger on any of the NZXT white cases. Several people I know who have one and some of the reviews for the NZXT white cases I've read have complaints about the paint chipping off real easy.

So at the time, this was on sale for $79.99 and decided what the heck...a little more than what I would like to spend but it was the cheapest white case I could find not made by NZXT.

So far, it's been the best case I've had. The built in filters, GREAT! The extra inch or so on the width of the case, GREAT! Seven positions for fans, GREAT! USB 3.0, GREAT!

Cons: It's already heavy with no components in it and can get really heavy with everything in it. But I don't workout much and I don't plan on using this case for weights ;)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This case looks great both inside and out and it is super quiet.
The design and attention to detail are second to none, I highly recommend this case to anyone looking for a high quality case for their next build / upgrade.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Plenty of room for radiators, fans, drives and large video cards.
This case looks as good on the inside as it does on the outside.

5 out of 5 eggsnice!!!

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: AWESOME!!! I love the room it has. Cleaning case is as easy as removing dust screens. Idles at 42c with an i3 530 with stock fan. Love the fact it has noise reduction, can hardly hear it in living room. Cable management is easy. Using 6 hdds in it, can have 8!

Cons: None that I know of

5 out of 5 eggsGood Quite Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: - Quiet. I "upgraded" from a Thor V2, which sounded something like a jet engine on full blast. This case is nearly dead silent.
-Good space for cable management
-Rear MB backplane mounts for 2 SSDs
-Removable HDD rack (if you only use 3 drives this increases airflow)
-Filters over all air intakes
-Sleek look

Overall I'd say this is a very nice case. Some components are made of plastic, but it still has a solid quality build feel. The sound insulation works very well, and I can barely hear the machine running even when fans are at full. Thermal values seem decent, but I am planning on putting in a few extra fans just to be safe.

Cons: -The Smell. The insulation has this weird new car/old fish smell to it and it is taking time to work itself out. Currently my room smells awful. Hopefully this goes away soon.

That is the only issue I have with the case so far, not enough to deduct an egg.

Other Thoughts: Its a bit large for a mid tower case, but not unreasonably so. It offers a lot of the features of a full case in a smaller package, primarily by cutting down CD drive slots to 2. I'm definitely satisfied. Note that the accent LEDs on the case are red. I expected blue so it was a bit of a surprise.
